Plaza Azteca

This is a favorite go to for the wife and I. The first time I came I tried the Philly Cheesesteak burrito. It was different but very good. The second time I tried the shrimp tacos and I haven’t tried anything else yet. The shrimp tacos are incredible. My wife always gets the spinach enchiladas and is never disappointed. Maybe one day we will try something new… maybe.

I absolutely love this place. My friends and I go once a week or so and have never had a bad experience. I think the sodas are quite expensive but I just drink water until I get back to work and grab a soda from our vending machine if needed. I seem to always lean towards getting the chicken fajitas lunch portion and it is a ton of food. I love love love the chips and salsa and it’s free! I will always recommend this place and will continue to eat here.

I wish I could give a –star…I would go here when I was in the area visiting family. This past weekend I went with the anticipation that it was still the same grate food and service only to be utterly disappointed. The food was awful… no taste whatsoever the waitress was preoccupied with another server, the order drink was mixed up not once but twice, my granddaughter found a hair in her food and the GM was no where to be found!!! What has happened??? I was told that Jose’ is no longer there and I can see a HUGE difference! Looks like I’ll be finding another place to go to…

Great shrimp tacos and frozen Marg’s, I have been here for lunch 4 or 5 times and really enjoy there friendly service and fresh table side guacamole! It would be a great place to stop for drinks and appetizers!

Came here for dinner with my four kids early on a Thursday night. Server must have seen kids and not have been too happy. He was grumpy the entire time, and actually a little rude.
Guacamole table side was ok. Lady making it was super sweet.
Kids meals were also decent. I ordered steak and chicken fajitas. They had absolutely no flavor, and the steak was like mystery meat.
Margarita was delicious.
Fried ice cream was okay.
It’s a shame because this place has excellent hostess reception area. They are very friendly, but this is my 3^rd time going there and each time there was no consistency with the flavor of the food. Very bland.
When I went to pay for our meal I was owed $ 20. I should have tipped 12 that would have made it %20. The server just kept 10 of it? He was then like sorry and went to look for a 10. I was like just keep it.
Won’t be going back!

If you want bad, fast Mexican food this is the place for you. Based on the other reviews on this place I can only surmise that the people were literally starving before coming here. Maybe they have never had Mexican food before. They must have been waiting over at Sweetwater and couldn’t stand it anymore. There are worst Mexican restaurants… but this ranks right up near the top.

What happened. This place used to be so good.
Table side Guac was great.
Just visited again after a few months away — not the same, slow indifferent service… puzzled.
Maybe we went on a bad night… will give them another try, and if back to what they used to be will upgrade my review.

My girlfriend ended up here for a birthday party. Its a really nice looking restaurant on the inside. Service was good. Menu is your standard tex-​mex. They a great guac right at the table. The entrees were pretty good, but very very salty. No one at the table (7 of us) finished our plates because the food was so salty.

Food was awefull!!! Very disappointed. Sent back my first dish and the second one was not any better!!!

And just like that, we’re back down hill with this place. The manager, Jose, has left, and with it so too has the desire of the employees to work. We literally sat and watched four servers, one of which was ours, stand across the restaurant and talk /​play while we sat with empty water glasses. I don’t even bother asking for the «specialty» items that Jose used to make me, because there is nobody consistently there to «work» with on this.
Plaza Azteca was my absolute favorite Mexican joint in town, and I’m really sad to see that those days are over. The owner really needs to see what he /​she can do to get Jose back.

Good solid Mexican food with a very nice staff, happy hour is good but they need to add more food items at hh price (only nachos) the complimentary salsa and chips are good, Ive had the OMG nachos a couple of times and I like them but the chorizo doesn’t have a kick like they should so I have to put a lil hot sauce on them, I copied off of one of my Unilocal friends and got the shrimp fried rice and added onions and mushrooms and it was Awsome, the carne asada and el paisano are my faves

I usually love Mexican food, but this was really disappointing. The queso dip had no spice, and the enters were ridiculously bland. No bright flavors, just creams and heaviness. There are way better Mexican places out there, don’t waste the calories or money here… Unless you like extremely Americanized Mexican food.

We love the salsa and we enjoy lunch and dinner there. The service has always been great. They have awveral. itwms on their lunch menu for $ 6 to $ 8. The chicken enchiladas are rate with the beams and rice.

Absolutely delicious, I haven’t had one thing I didn’t like. Service is great, wait staff is attentive.

Should have known it was going to be a bad experience from the beginning. When we first ordered drinks I wanted a strawberry margarita on the rocks. Well the drinks come out 20 minutes later… yes 20 minutes for a margarita and a coronarita. I thought they were going to Giant for more margarita mix. So our waiter, Jose comes out… and you guessed it. He comes out with a frozen margarita. The first words that come out of his mouth are, «So I know you ordered margarita on the rocks but the bartender gave me a frozen one, do you want me to take yours back for 1 on the rocks?» Ok first of all, if you know you have my drink wrong why did you bring it out. It’s not up to the bartender to tell you he’s not going to make another one since he already made one. Second, it took 20 minutes to come out with drinks and they made wrong ones? He looks at me and I guess he felt bad or something because he probably knew I was saying something bad to my fiancé, because he suddenly comes with a margarita on the rocks. He said he «felt bad», well if you would have given me what I ordered it would have been fine. So in the first 20 minutes I’m sitting there dumbfounded at the service. I’m praying and hoping food would make up for it.
Food comes out 20 minutes later AFTER the drinks come out. I ordered the enchiladas and they were okay, nothing special. I did however like the rice. My fiancé got the steak with chorizo. It was good, he was very happy. I thought it was pretty good too. Near the middle of his steak he stops and picks around in his mouth for something. When he takes his fingers out its a long, sharp piece of metal from the brushes they use to clean the grill. Luckily he did not swallow it, bad thing is he scraped inside his mouth. Thank god he didn’t swallow it or else we’d have bigger problem.
Jose doesn’t come over to even ask how food is until I have to get up and find him after my fiancé found the metal in his mouth. He apologizes of course and gets the manager. The manager comes and comps our food which he should have done regardless. We left and the manager gave us his card and said to come back and try. No thanks! I’m not going to waste my time when everything was bad from beginning to end. I know things happen but a long metal piece that could have gone down his throat is not cool.
Not going back. So many better Mexican places out there.

Beautiful family restaurant that has a little something for everyone.
Reasonably priced and ample entrees to choose from, especially for vegans and fitness gurus looking for low carb options.
Great service, and an elegant ambiance.
My advice, skip the salsa and go for their freshly made guacamole ;-)

I am a huge fan of Mexican food, but it’s not always the best, just depending on where I go .I can say that I have visited 6 different Plaza Azteca locations and they are always delicious and consistent. I started off ordering the 3 chicken enchiladas with rice and salad for years, but ended up switching recently and ordering the shrimp fried rice. It’s not what you would expect but it is so amazing. It’s Spanish fried rice, huge pieces of shrimp, spices and covered in white cheese. I always add grilled onions and mushrooms on top, which just adds to the flavor! I went to this location Friday night with two friends after we watched a movie at Dulles Town Center. We were seated quickly and our order was taken by the waitress. The food came out hot, but it did take some time. I was stuffed and didn’t finish my whole plate, but it is pretty good reheated. One of my friends ordered the Aztec salad and it looked perfect, so I look forward to trying it soon!

They have a new menu!
I would’ve almost have taken my 4-​star down to a 3-​star, but it’s not because of the new menu. In fact, my meal the other night was SO good that the food persuaded me not to demote Plaza Azteca. However, without the other bad points I experienced, I probably would’ve PROMOTED them to 5 stars… but I can’t justify that at this time. Here’s why:
— Salsa dish was only filled about halfway up. Ran out almost immediately. Never got asked about a refill.
— Chip game was weak too — nothing but the crumbs.
— New menu is great and keeps all the old favorites with a few new great additions — but gah, they raised prices! Mexican is usually pretty affordable, but this place is now on the mid– to upper-​range of two Unilocal $$s.
But hot dang, I tried the new lobster enchiladas, and they were freaking amazing! Three big ol’ tortillas jampacked with lobster meat — they do not slack on it – and covered in a salsa queso blend that’s to die for. Served with some tasty jasmine Mexican rice and bam, party in your mouth so hard.
So, this was the first somewhat miss I’ve ever had at Plaza, and sucks that one of my favorite places is now going to cost a little more — but don’t let it deter you. Still the best Mexican place in Loudoun County.
