Stopped by about 2 years ago and completely forgot to write a review. Walking in you’re greeted with a relaxed, soulful vibe enhanced by some classic Miles Davis on the radio, and posters of various jazz musicians. Definitely a «no frills» place, but who needs frills when you’re eating some good old fashioned BBQ /soul food. I came in with a $ 25 living social voucher and was happy to see that I could order a WHOLE(sliced) Tri tip. This was I think $ 29, and came with one large, and one small side. I went with the fries and the green beans(delicious!!). Sitting at the table I waited anxiously for my order to arrive. I’ve grilled a healthy number of Tri tips, and so I can tell when one’s been done right. Order was ready after I wanna say… 10 minutes, and the staff brought it out for me and everything. I opened the lid and was astonished how thin the Tri tip was sliced. Ive never had it so thin, it practically melted in my mouth. It had a mouthwatering, smokey flavor that I still remember vividly 2 months later. The green beans were also delicious. Hot, moist, and full of flavor. The fries were also good, but not quite on the same caliber as the Tri tip/green beans, but who cares! A few caveats that kept me from giving 5 stars. I ordered the large green beans and small fry but received the reverse. I also asked for their spicy BBQ sauce. After tasting it I was sure they accidentally gave me their regular. It was DELICIOUS, but not spicy in the slightest. Also, I didn’t mind the price since I actually only paid like $ 17 due to my living social voucher, but for $ 30+ I’d be hesitant to make the same order. While it was«a lot» of Tri tip and definitely possible it was a whole, it would have had to be one of the smaller. 1.5lbish cuts. To their credit, they also have many, more affordable options. They’ve got combo plates for i think $ 5.95 with a meat item and a small side or something. I haven’t been back yet but I think I’m due to stop by soon!

Some of the best ribs I have ever had. They are nicely prepared and the sauce is a nice sweet and tangy. The staff is also very friendly.

My review may be a bit biased because I come from Texas where your BBQ better be darn good if you’re going to try to sell it to me. But anyways, first things first, the store itself seems old, but not necessarily in bad shape. Walking in, I didn’t feel uncomfortable, but it wasn’t that nice a setting. The food — the first time I went, I ordered a brisket/beef rib combo plate. The person taking my order was very friendly and actually gave me samples of the sides I didn’t order. My recommendation when ordering, get the sauce on the side. If you don’t, they really douse the meat with sauce.(The sauce is a bit too sweet and too tangy for me to rave about it, but it’s not bad. When it’s drowning in sauce, though, no other flavors get through) But the brisket was only so-so, although the beef ribs were rather tasty. The smoked flavors really got into the meat. I’ve been back once more since, and I ordered only the beef ribs with the sauce on the side, and it was much better. So –1 star for the presentability of the inside. and –1 star for the sauce. I do aim to go back and try the catfish one of these days

First time i ever was introduced to this place was with my sister, who happens to love good food too. The place is a hole in the wall type of joint located in a shopping center, we walked in and it was somewhat busy, people standing in line and all. Once we placed our order food came out relatively fast. We ordered bbq ribs with medium sauce and fried catfish, sides baked beans & greens. All the food was very tasty, and plenty of it, we ate in that time but more likely i will do take out in the future. My sister got a frequent customer card so every time you go it gets marked and by the 10th meal you get it free. All in all this place has good eats and i will frequent there often if i have a craving for some good bbq. i have tried various bbq places around town and haven’t went back to any but Catfish N Ribs as Arnold Schwarzenegger said in Terminator«I’ll Be Back» happy eating Peepz

This place is pretty good. If you’re feeling like a good bbq styled home cooked meal, Id deff. suggest hitting this place up. I ordered ribs and cat fish fillet with a side of sweet beans and mac n cheese– I have no complaints. The food is a bit pricey and if you’re eating there, expect to be in a room filled with steam from the kitchen. Either way i liked the experience and would def. come back.

I like this place and I want to try so many things on the menu too. They are a little pricey though. The ribs are good and the extreme sauce is hot! I don’t like how crowded the little place gets or how loud it gets but the people seem pretty cool.

Yay, I’m happy I finally got to try this place! Large selection, good prices, good service. My group ordered as much variety as we could — here is the report: The catfish nuggets were light and crispy, not greasy at all. The pork ribs were very good, as were the pulled pork, the baked beans, and the cole slaw. The pound cake was yummy and so was the sweet potato pie. Last but not least — they have strawberry Fanta at the self-serve! Oh, joy! Our only quibble is that we found both the mean greens and the string beans to be too salty for our taste. And butter or margarine for the bread would have been nice — I should have asked for some. As soon as I have room in my stomach again, I will return to Catfish N Ribs to try everything I missed the first time around!

Once you walked into the door, everyone looks tired from waiting. It can take a while for your food order, so be prepared to wait. The person at the register is knowledgeable about the menu items listed which was a plus. However, it bothered me to see that for one, his nails were dirty and two, he did not look presentable. Moving on to the food. I got the beef ribs with the sauce on the side. the ribs were tender and good, however the sauce for me was a bit too salty. I’m glad I got the option to get it on the side. I also got the popcorn shrimp for the boyfriend, which was also extremely salty. We both agreed that we would definitely come back to just get the order of corn muffins(something you don’t have to wait for since it’s pre-made). I don’t think I’ll go back occasionally.

The third Stockton gem I’m reviewing today. They serve up quality food at reasonable prices. Ribs are tender and fall off the bones, fries are lightly seasoned and pleasantly tasty. The folks running the place are very nice especially the owner James. If you’re looking for a little something out of the ordinary, check them out. March and West where McDonald’s and the new Walmart are.

We have had the ribs, chicken, brisket and I even ate the catfish(first time) all good and prepared fresh. The sides and served in small Styrofoam cups and filled with tasty spaghetti, green beans, mac & cheese. It like a surprise when you open them. I going back for some brisket soon. Two of our lunch partners said it was the best catfish they have had.

I cannot give this hole-in-the-wall business less than five stars. I also can’t add much that has not already been written. It is not a large or fancy joint. But hey, I go for the food, not the ambience. The tri-tip was amazing. Tender, moist, great flavor, topped with a tangy barbecue sauce. The baby backs were also tender and fall-off-the-bone. The chicken was yummy. I am not huge fan of barbecue chicken in a restaurant but this was very good. The catfish was tender, moist and had a light cornmeal batter that was not overwhelming. It had no fishy taste. I dipped mine in their tartar sauce. A great treat. Here is a photo of ‘the pit’ A couple slices of bread comes with most meals. For sides we had baked beans, spaghetti, macaroni salad and coleslaw. I can’t say the sides that we had were outstanding, but they were adequate, I would not take a star away for the sides. But I might suggest to keep up the quality on the sides if not slightly improve them. We definitely will go back. Not a question. Get one of their frequent flyer cards — buy 5 lunch or dinner combos, get the 6th one free. Kudos to the employees for making our first visit a pleasant one. Thanks to the Record for bringing this restaurant to our attention, even though I have seen the ratings on Unilocal for the past year or so. It probably would’ve caught my attention sooner if it had«BBQ» in the name of the restaurant. :-) The restaurant is located on n/w corner of March and West Ln… where the ‘new’ Walmart Neighborhood market is located. Look for the sign-waver out front! GONOW!

The sour cream cake, I think that’s what it’s called, is SODELICIOUS! It had a great texture, was super moist and wasn’t overly sweet. My cousin ate some of mine and said it is now her favorite cake ever. I’ve tried more than half of the things on their menu and everything is awesome. You can’t really go wrong here. My favorites are the beef ribs, catfish fillet, mean greens, mac and cheese, and of course, that delicious sour cream cake. If you’re not a fan of barbecue or seafood, go eat somewhere else, but come back here and get the cake for dessert. You’ll thank me later. *Edit from my last review– their sides are a full 8 ounces now. The servings are so huge that I always end up with leftovers.

I was impressed, the food quality was good and the guy behind the counter was very nice. I tried the beef ribs since I don’t eat pork, and I was very satisfied. Unfortunately I don’t eat red meat much anymore, but when I get that urge for some southern barbecue, I now know where to go. I’m actually interested in trying their Tilapia next time around, since I do eat fish. They have a smoker out back. They also sell a few desert items, I believe he mentioned something about sweet potato pie, I’m gonna have to try that next time. And of course you gotta get the cole slaw and baked beans. Facility is on the small side, but it has a nice homey feel to it. Overall, a nice small eat and go place. I’d recommend it if you like sweet southern style barbecue or seafood(they have popcorn shrimp and oysters if you’re into that sort of stuff). I’ll be a repeat customer.

This place has amazing food, great location, and is a very soothing environment to enjoy your meal. I loved the staff, couldn’t have asked for better service. Prices are very reasonable compared to other resteraunts, especially for the quality, quantity and prep time(which was prompt). I will definetely be back here the seafood is wonderful as was the BBQ. –Gina Perrinoni

Stopped here after sharing a friends lunch from this place and I was not disappointed! Had the pork ribs, two sides(cole slaw and mac and cheese), and a small sweet potato pie, for about $ 16. Everything was superb. Really too much food for one meal. Share this with a friend!

Holy huge portions!!! I ate here about a week ago after purchasing a voucher off of . Being a HUGE fan of anything BBQ, I didn’t want to get my hopes up before actually trying the place out, but with a name like Catfish n Ribs… I got the four meat meal and holy smokes was it good. One of the things that I liked about this place it the gratuitous use of their sauce. Opening up the to-go box thingy that they put the ribs(pork and beef) in along with the brisket, I was delighted to see a large amount of BBQ sauce at the bottom. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone that I can. Totally dig it

I could be biased from eating all the crappy food at UOP but the food here is pretty tasty. I went here with a few friends during finals week just to try something new. Between the 5 of us we got chicken tenders, BBQ ribs, and the prime rib. All of which were pretty all right but the sauce for the BBQ ribs was just a little too strong. You could not taste the meat that well. The portions of the meat were pretty big but the side dishes were so small I’d mistaken them for cups of water. The diameter of the cups that the sides were served in was less than half of the size of your palm… In addition, I don’t think this place can handle a crowd of more than 6. There is an old African-American lady working the cash register and a young Asian woman cooking and serving the food. However, we were served in a decent amount of time for being a group of 5. All in all, it was an okay place to eat. I wasn’t too impressed but it wasn’t bad either.

Ordered the Pork Ribs lunch special for $ 8.99. Ribs were delish. Super tender! Met the entire family who runs the biz… James, James Jr and family. They have the BBQ smoker in the back… so you know that the BBQ is super fresh. I feel sorry for Vegans and Vegetarians… cause you guys are missing out. =b

I’ve been here twice, the first time a personable gentleman took my order. The food was good the first time. The second time was not the same. A lady took my order and yes she had an attitude and got my order wrong. When i got the correct order beef links the meat tasted old. If they want to stay in busines don’t let her take food orders she gives a bad first impression
