The food is as good(or bad) as can be expected. My major compliant is the lack of customer service. Anytime I ask a simple question, for example«do you have whole wheat bread?» Or «what kind of noodles are those?» I get an attitude in response. I am buying subpar EXPENSIVE food so the least the service people could do is serve with a damn smile.

I prefer how things were done before this semester. For example, it annoying that you can no longer make your own salad, I feel like your paying more. I had the Bombai Bowl for this first time a week or so ago, and I wasn’t a fan. The things that have saved the score was that I enjoy the new noodle bar, where you get to choose protein and veggies, and the broth is tasty. The pizza is about the same as previous semester. I was never a fan of the soup selections. So overall, I have a very mixed feeling about the food in the SAC.

Say what you want say about this place! But it feeds me decent cheese pizzas for 1.5 years! Pizza is affordable to me, and you can pretty much avoid the long line during lunch hours. I mean the line moves faster than other stuff if you are only getting the cheese slice and I believe the cheese slice is the best. Btw, the philly cheese is also pretty good at the grill section.

Ever since Sodexo took over at the begining of July 2015, food quality has gone down a LOT! Food prices have risen way beyond the inflation rate. The pizza is barely edible whereas before it used to be quite good. The crust is too thick for it to cook through before the bottom burns and so the top of the crust becomes a pasty dough. Either they should reduce the thickness of the crust or reduce the oven temperature. The fried stuff(chicken fingers, french fries) were COLD. TThey should be thrown away as soon as they cool down or be cooked in small batches. The people behind the counter and at checkout are SLOW.

For events and whatnot, there’s nothing wrong with the SAC. However, my review mainly focuses on the cafeteria, because that’s the way that most people experience the SAC. The selection here is pretty mediocre for a facility of its size. The food itself is pretty mediocre as well, and the pizza is NOT good(go to Station Pizza across 25A from the LIRR station if you want pizza– it’s cheaper and far better). Anyone that thinks the pizza here is good has never had a NY style slice from just about anywhere else(Sbarro sadly does beat it) or just has really low standards– the pizza here is bland, limp, greasy, and overall not very appetizing. Prices are standard for the campus, which is too much. The ambiance of the main seating area also sucks, and the place is always crowded for reasons that I haven’t quite figured out. The Union is far better in just about every regard, but this place does keep the crowds at the Union down.

The SAC is the second worst campus eatery I’ve ever encountered — second only after one of the other Stony Brook cafeterias. They are renovating the cafeteria during the summer of 2011, so hopefully they can improve their operation. The main problem is it’s usually crowded as hell. As expected, the food is mediocre, and unhealthy.(unless you want to shovel out $ 3.00 for a tiny yogurt, or $ 7.00 for a day old chicken salad, or $ 1-$ 2 for a questionable banana). A bag of chips can set you back several dollars, and the bagged snack items are so expensive, they have been sitting there for years without anyone buying them. One time a cashier yelled at me for mixing coffee and cappuccino and then charged me .50 cents extra. The dinners are a bit overpriced, in my opinion, and the burgers and fries are certainty overpriced for what you get. They have wraps, but they are expensive and I’d never had the courage to try one. The whole place just smells fishy. The salad bar is probably the only reason I go there sometimes. I really hope they clean up their act with the upcoming renovation, but I somehow doubt the quality of food will improve much. As far as the campus store, its ok, but there’s a lot of things they don’t have, and as expected its expensive. You can go to target or walmart if you have time to drive or take the bus.

Overpriced disgusting food. Pizza is often burnt on the bottom. Lines are long as heck when you are trying to order or trying to pay. Drinks are over priced as well, just go to one of the buildings nearby and grab a soda for $ 1.50 instead of paying extra at that dumb place.

In the cafeteria, the lines are too long and the food is not great. That’s a solidly one– to two-star establishment, although the glass wall in the dining area does make for some good people-watching. As for the rest of the building, there are pretty good facilities for performances(although the auditoriums do seem pretty tiny) and holding meetings. And supposedly the gym is okay… not that I ever bother setting foot in a gym. The Tabler Steps provide plenty of a workout for me.

The SAC sucks! The cafeteria here is packed! The only things I like from the SAC cafeteria is the sandwich spot only when that old Asian man is working and whenever they have waffle fries. The soup, burgers, Philly cheesesteaks, and pizza sucks! The salad bar is okay. There’s a decent variety of toppings and dressings. The SAC gallery is small but there’s some interesting exhibitions here every now and then. I wouldn’t study or do anything else here. The student store is expensive! There’s a BJ’s further west on 347(Nesconset Highway). There’s also Waldbaum’s, Stop & Shop, and Path Mark close to campus. Students should all consider doing their shopping there instead of letting Stony Brook ripping them off with high mark ups.

The SAC is a decent spot when it comes to food and event-hosting on campus. The eating area offers a good people-watching vantage point and the food is always changing and typically not too bad. Gets a bit sketchy the farther you ascend, but the gym is decent(and free for affiliates) and the gift shop is alright, I suppose. Large events are held on the ground floor and the commuter lounge is a nice resource if you’re into that kinda stuff.
