This is the best place on Stowe Mountain for lunch, since you’re going to spend $ 15-$ 20 anywhere on the mountain, so why not get the best food and indulge a bit? Not as fancy as Solstice or Cliff House, but it’s absolutely excellent for a ski hill food court. And the staff is amazing, they will bend over backwards for you. If you sit at the bar or left of the bar you can get table service with a limited menu — I think the choices in the Great Room cafeteria are better. My favorite are the specialty salads, chicken chili, and the seafood risotto — perfect to warm up after a morning of skiing! If you want a drink but don’t want to fuss with the bar, you can get a beer from the cafeteria itself. It’s pretty quiet on weekdays, but it gets packed on weekends and holidays — though they also have bands then which is fun. If you hate crowds I would plan on an early or late lunch.

Beautiful room with good food options. Professional service. Plenty of seats. Bowl of fries is a good deal.

Wow! Great food and service in what seemingly is a «move ‘em in /move ‘em out» place! But, in reality, it is SOOO much more. Sure, the Great Room is essentially a food court, but it’s a mighty fine food court – a fantastic, classy ski resort food court. You won’t find McDonald’s and Taco Bell here, but instead, they feature 7 different restaurants(cooking stations), all serving fresh, delicious new American style foods. On my first visit, my friend James and I visited the Grill in the Great Room, where they feature made-from-scratch sandwiches and burgers with regional influences(e.g. many of the sandwiches feature Vermont cheddar cheese). I had the meatloaf sandwich, which was amazing and served with an herb mayonnaise that was mouthwatering. James had the chicken sandwich, which he let me sample, and we were both blown away! Fresh, succulent chicken with Vermont Cheddar and bacon – tasty! With all of the sandwiches, they serve delicious, homemade cole slaw. I’m not generally a fan of cole slaw b/c it’s typically too sweet… but this gourmet slaw was amazing! As a side, we shared the chili cheese fries– I know, sounds like bar food, right? Well, their rendition is updated with a gourmet chili… and it’s awesome! It does feature stadium-style cheese on top, but is was high quality nacho cheese, and it made the fries even better! Note that the portion sizes are huge, and that’s always a plus in my book! So, what about the other cooking stations(restaurants) in the Great Room Grill? Well, I tried the bar area a few times for drinks– the drinks were delicious and strong! There is a bit of a line sometimes b/c skiers coming off the slopes were looking to unwind with a drink or coffee… and, oddly enough, the line to order coffee is the same line to order cocktails. They definitely need a separate line for ordering coffee quickly… or better yet, build a separate coffee shop kiosk in the Great Room. Architecturally, the place looks awesome! It looks like a giant, modern log cabin. There’s also a grand fireplace… and all three times I visited the Great Room, they had live music going. Very cool.
