Today is a sad sad day. Can’t believe I’m giving three stars to what used to be my favorite sushi restaurant. I don’t know what the deal is but the sushi has been lacking! What is the deal!!! So mushy, barely any sauce, fish sucks. No!!! Did the chefs change? Or is this place just done? So disappointed in my last few visits.

Gotta say, the first time I didn’t leave a review even though it was realllly good. Everyone enjoyed every single dish. The owner even brought dishes to the table and was very social and super nice! The reason I wanted to leave a review was cause I went there again today and usually when you show up to a place 5 – 10 before they close; they’ll either not let you in or rush you so much. They were so nice and said no worries take you time and enjoy. Surprised the hell out of me. Definitely recommend for the food and the service. Great experience all around.

Love this place! Such friendly staff and delicious food! Parking is attached next door and is convenient. Every time I come to eat sushi here I have heard that it isn’t fresh however I have never experienced that and let me tell you I’m a seafood lover and know the difference between fresh sushi. Make sure you make reservations for Friday and Saturday night.

Teru Sushi is the full package to me if you want consistent quality food and friendly service. Not only do they have a great happy hour. sushi chefs are actually NICE. Isn’t that shocking! Idk when it became the norm for us to think being treated rude comes with the territory if you sit at the sushi bar. If I’m gonna have a «regular spot» that’s not acceptable to me. Tonight I came in by myself and sat at the sushi bar… which is rare. Tina greets you when you walk in and never forgets my name. She’s always such a joy and makes me & my guest feel so welcome since I usually bring in large parties. She is that good hospitality that makes u want to come back! Louise was my sushi chef and he was very sweet accommodating my request and making smaller portions for me so I could literally try a little bit of everything. Sometimes a girl just wants to get away and have a few of her favorites without having to share or order a whole big portion. The albacore, garlic, crispy onion is amazing. It’s fresh and they almost make it like a salad… offering many different veggies so you can create a different options for every bite. The yellowtail jalapeño was on point as well. The ponzu they use has the perfect flavor. I never even think about using soy sauce. Salmon is one of my favorites… so I consider myself pretty picky. It’s like butter when Louis makes it for you… and he gives you a big portion compared to most other places. The energy around you when you sit at the bar is so positive. I like hearing costumes say they drove 20 – 30 minutes because they love this place so much. When I see bad reviews on Teru I wanna ask them… where do you go for good sushi?!! Because I’ve just been to full and as more food came out said, can I cancel my that cuz I ate every bite from the previous order. They smile and take anything off my bill even if there’s no complaint or mix up. You can bring your friends here and know they’ll be happy. bring a date and know they’ll accommodate that picky girl with weird request. No attitude, no rules… just people that care about making sure you have a good experience with a fabulous meal. Next up tonight, I ordered the OMG. I don’t eat anything with mayo and some sushi restaurants won’t substitute«no mayo» in their spicy tuna. I hate that! If you have all the ingredients to make a new batch of spicy tuna why can’t they take 2 min so I can enjoy half the menu that accustoms it?! Teru has no issue making it exactly the way you want! When I order rolls i prefer them«cut 1 extra time»…I just hate when the bites are so big that you can’t even enjoy it. Ask for 10 piece on your next roll here! I try not to get stuck on rolls be ate the rice can be filling but their rolls. OMG! They call it that for a reason! I can’t exit without mentioning my favorite dish here… the GEISHALIPS! It’s the only place I know that makes this

I’m rating after our second time dining here. First time service was just ok but the food was good enough to come back. The hostess seemed agitated however we didn’t let that bother us. The waitress was attentive enough. Soooo we figured we would give it another try. This trip was interesting to say the least. the waitress came over quickly and was pleasant but messed up two of our orders. My sons meal didn’t come out correctly he ordered chicken and shrimp noodles which came with no shrimp. Oh well, he ate it with no complaints. Then we ordered rock shrimp sushi, which we whenever received. When she asked if we wanted anything else I let her know we were waiting for that and she said she didn’t put the order in. No apology or acknowledgment that she messed up. So we took the check. Kinda bizarre. Based on the service I wouldn’t come back. I would say it’s not worth the money.

Ridiculous. So many sushi places here in Studio City, you’d think they would try to raise the bar to keep business with all the competition around. Although, it was still busy here for a Saturday night, so I guess they don’t care. Sugarfish is still by far the best, and I’m on the hunt for places that have a more diverse menu that I can go to dinner with my non-loving-sushi husband. So– I tried Teru Sushi. I walked up the hostess stand a few minutes before my reservation and before even saying anything, the hostess looks at me and says«there will be a long wait» then pause,(knowing me I probably had a shocked look on my face) because don’t you normally greet someone first? Like I don’t know, hello or welcome? Anyway, insert long boring story where the hostess was flat out rude and didn’t have my reservation, but said she would seat me anyway(as if she was doing me a favor) even though I showed her my confirmation email from Open Table. Sadly, it didn’t get better from there. Unimpressed with the sushi presentations, the fish was very thinly cut into globs of rice. My husband ordered the chicken teriyaki which he did like. And we had a delay in our beer order because it wasn’t cold yet. And when the cold bottle of beer came out, they handed us two hot out of the dishwasher glasses to pour the beer into. Nothing about his experience will have me coming back. Onto the next door/down the street sushi place to try. Good luck here!

Took me a while to try this spot out, but I’m glad I did! I enjoyed every roll we ordered! Fish was fresh and wasn’t drenched in a lot of sauce. Service was great as well. Will be coming here for dinner again!

I absolutely love this place! My girl friends and I go here all the time. Any roll you get is amazing and the outdoor atmosphere is so pretty. I would recommend the BSCR roll which is my favorite, edamame, and if your in the mood for soup the best wonton soup ever. I come here just for that sometime. Its delicious with the ginger broth and the lobster wontons! Its perfect for a cold day.

We went there last week for a late dinner. Place has a cozy feel to it which is nice. Has to wait a bit for a table but that was understandable on a Saturday night. Food took a while to be served which is probably my only gripe with this place. The Sushi rolls and Sashimi were very good and tasty. Price is reasonable. All in all it was a positive experience and I would definitely go there again.

It’s always a fun lively atmosphere and they do rolls well. I’m more of a raw fish guy so I like the crazy stuff but service is good, always meet nice people and you won’t leave disappointed unless you’re super into fresh stuff like toro, uni, etc.

3 ½ stars My friend suggested we eat here since he’s been here a few times, and it was pretty close to his house. It was a bit late so luckily there was no line. Parking is valet. The inside is pretty spacious. Cozy and casual, it has a very welcome feel to it. The price has many varieties. Sushi, sashimi, special rolls, hot menu, combo etc… I usually don’t like to get rolls but for some reason I was craving only rolls. _Baked Crab handroll. I was surprised at how much crab they give! I’m not complaining at all, but wow was I pleased. Nice big pieces of warm crab, good amount of rice, a slice of avocado and wrapped in soy paper. I must say this was my favorite throughout the night. Filling and tasty I could eat 2 of these! _Yellowtail Sashimi($ 14.25) Comes in 5 pieces. I love yellowtail, and glad to say the yellowtail sashimi was very fresh. The color was such a pretty pinkish/white color. Next to it was a piece of sesame leaf that I took a piece of and wrapped in the yellowtail. It tastes a bit more earthy, and brings out the flavor more. Plus if you do eat a fishy one, this helps to cut that out. _Uni Sushi. This was good, but I wish they added more uni on top. For the price you pay, they don’t add much. It was fresh and pretty sweet, but had a small fishy aftertaste towards the end of the bite. I’ve had better, but it was still good. _Jumbo Scallop sushi. At first I ordered wrong, I asked for scallop sushi but came out small and chopped in wrapped in nori when I meant the jumbo, which is a giant scallop on top of rice. The scallop was fresh and I like the salt they add on top. Same with this it was good, but I’ve had better elsewhere. _Teru Roll($ 13.75) Shrimp tempura, tuna, salmon, crab meat and avocado in soy paper. This was my friend and I favorite out of the other two rolls. I liked that it was wrapped in soy paper. They are pretty huge in size. Comes in 5 big pieces. All the fish components were great together, without being overly fishy or too heavy. The shrimp tempura gave great texture since all the fish mixed together were soft. I like that it came with no sauce, so you cant taste the roll without being overpowered by sauce, as this sushi on it’s own already has a lot going on. _Sexy Roll($ 18) Shrimp tempura, crab meat, albacore & avocado topped with Spicy Teru Sesame Cream Sauce. I was not a huge fan of this. First bite was good but damn it became so heavy to eat. It was drenched in sesame cream sauce, which tasted like a lot of mayo was added. It took away from the roll, and we could not even taste the fish or even what was in the roll, all I could taste was the sauce. And this is why I’m not a huge fan of rolls, I don’t know why they always have the need to drench the rolls. _Da Bomb($ 18) Spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, cucumber wrapped in soypaper; topped with albacore, avocado and a pinch of spicy crab and drizzled with house ponzu sauce. This was just okay as well. It seemed most of the rolls all had shrimp tempura in it. This was a bit bland and lacked in flavor. Tasted just like the roll above, without all the sauce. I did like the albacore and avocado on top but felt the tiny dollop of crab did not do much. Although that part was good they should have added more, or if that small of an amount added more flavor. _Chocolate lave cake w/vanilla ice cream. This was good, but not near the best I’ve had. Pretty simple, no gooey chocolate sauce in the middle that oozes out. I wish they added vanilla bean ice cream on top instead of those cheap yellow looking vanilla ice cream, that taste so artificial. I thought the food was pretty pricey for the quality. I would come back for that baked crab handroll and yellowtail sashimi!

This sushi spot is incredible. Super fresh fish… I think I ate 6 salmon nigiri just by myself! It was total melt-in-your-mouth sushi. My favorite roll was the OMG — definitely worth ordering. And the service was quick with super friendly staff! I’m pretty sure every single server and sushi chef said goodbye and thank you to us on the way out. Will be back!

Some of the complaints I have here could have been avoided by me… I came with a group of 12 … not the best way to experience a restaurant but sometimes it’s more about the group than the restaurant. And this was my favorite group. We started by ordering off the happy hour menu… that’s a big difference from sitting at the bar and ordering omakase. So, the first thing that showed up was a california roll. I’m not a California Roll person but I ate a piece. It sucked… cold stale rice. From there, everything else was was pretty good. Maybe the best Spicy Tuna on Rice Cake I’ve ever had. Very good toro. The rolls were all tasty. The sake was served in an ice bucket. The waitress was quite nice.(I think all waitresses take on this sort of 1000 yard stare and go on automatic when they approach a multi-generational table of 12.) The salmon and yellowtail were not top quality. The truth is, if you are looking for top quality sushi in a more-intimate environment, you’ll probably want to eat across the street with George Clooney at Asanebo. Teru is running on automatic after 30 years or so and at times you get glimpses(or smells) of it’s 30 years here. It has been at least 15 years since I’ve been here and may be another 15(fate willing) before I come back. It’s not that this place it sucks… it’s that there are too many other places that are better.(The truth is that it wouldn’t still be here if it didn’t have something to offer?)

Looking to try a new place for sushi we drove through Studio City looking for a place to pop out at us. We found Teru. From the outside it was dimly lit and seemed low key and upscale at the same time. It seemed like a good first date or moms birthday place. Upon entering we noticed they had a tranquility fountain outside and because I’m a sucker for the soothing sound of running water, walked into the restaurant with high hopes. The service was quick and efficient, nothing like what’s been written by other Unilocalers regarding waitperson response times. The staff was friendly, warm and offered their services in just the right amount. Just to be clear… the service aspect of our dinner was fantastic. Now on to the food… We are Nigiri sushi people. We don’t order rolls or tempura battered stuff. Our first wave of food was a sushi assortment of salmon, yellowtail, and the whitefish. We tried the salmon first and immediately agreed that the rice was most likely cooked too long, as it felt more like a hindrance than a help. Because the rice felt ‘off’ to us, it lent a hand toward our overall decision. Our first bite was the salmon, and again… it could’ve just been the rice swaying me… the salmon had a warmth to it I we didn’t appreciate. We usually enjoy salmon the most, but our next order, the whitefish, was significantly colder and fresher. We spun through the menu for about an hour and a half and I noticed that all the tell tale signs of an awesome dinner were just not going to materialize. I think my lady enjoyed it more than I did, but all in all the whole experience wasn’t what we’d wanted it to be. Will we return? Sure, at some point. However, as far as first impressions go… we’re not in a rush. PS. The shishito peppers were incredible.

This place is A-OK. Valet costs $ 3 The restaurant is very large, and their menu is overwhelmingly huge. Got several rolls and wraps, plus salmon sashimi. Everything tasted pretty good. The rolls are pretty saucey, just FYI. Service was pretty good.

Came here on a Saturday night with a friend. Had reservations, but still had to wait about ten minutes or so. Seating is super crammed in here, but that never stopped me from revisiting this spot in the past. However, the food is not as great as it used to be and it’s super overpriced for the quality and ambiance :(! Sad. I once really liked it here Oh, and 1 more thing, the valet guy didn’t even ask for our ticket when retrieving our vehicle after dinner, just car and color… He brought us the wrong«white bmw». Not sure how trustworthy they are lmao.

12.24.14 Easy reservations via Open Table on Christmas Eve. $ 3.50 valet parking in the lot. We were quickly seated and got to the massive menu. Their rolls are quite inventive, some with a Spanish flair(salsa topping?!). We weren’t so adventurous, so stuck with some basics. I highly recommend the stuffed shishito peppers and the pepper toro. Total damage for six: $ 150

Really strong showing. Definitely CHECKIN on Unilocal for a free hot sake — they upgraded ours to a large because we had a party of 6 and the waiter was feeling friendly. We actually ended up with a second free bottle that they had accidentally prepared for a table that didn’t want it. We volunteered to take it off their hands. Two free sakes later, we ate. A cavalcade of sushi and sashimi flavors delighted our table. Let’s see if I can recall some of the dishes: Caterpillar Roll, Philadelphia Roll, Buddha’s Garden Roll, Eggplant Appetizers, a Chicken Teriyaki Dinner, Country Roll, Eel sashimi, miso soup, salad, rice, and probably 1 or 2 other things I’m forgetting. Everything was excellent. The preparation was superlative, the plating was beautiful, and even the teriyaki, a generally pretty simple dish, was cooked just to the right level and the sauce was better than average. We sat in the outdoor patio out back, which is covered and has numerous heat lamps to basically control the temperature of the whole area. There are lush greens up a hill that really bring the area together. Parking is valet out front, or if you can find street parking on Ventura(good luck), the meters run until 8 pm. It’s a tiny bit pricier than some sushi places, but not as over-the-top as others. Worth checking out, for sure. Great food, great atmosphere, and wonderful wait staff.

Teru has definitely lost its flare from a few years ago. It is more of a ambiance over food place, attracting a few famous faces here and there. There are a few choices as far as seating. The front patio which is bar seating that faces Ventura Blvd., booths and tables inside, indoor bar, and back patio. I always prefer the back patio because it has that«Alice in wonderland» vibe which translates to «Lala in sushiland». The sushi is OK. It is not the best, but not the worst either. I had the scallop hand roll, rock shrimp cut roll, spicy tuna rice cakes, OMG roll, shishito peppers, and the Teru roll, none of which were below mediocre. Though the fish was fresh, after a few bites, most of the food begun tasting the same. The service was courteous and attentive for a Saturday evening and we were seated within 20 minutes of arrival with no reservations. Our waitress checked on the table and refreshed our beverages as needed. For such a busy night and a full house, I condemn the service. Parking is valet. All in all, this is not the sushi I drool over, but I don’t mind dining here on occasion.
