High quality authentic Mexican food. Probably the best overall in the area. Far superior to the down the street TexMex place. For years I came here and it was never busy, but that seems to have changed, so get a reservation. The salsa and chips they give you is okay. It would be nice if It was a bit thicker. Too messy to eat if you’re dressed well. My wife and I both ordered steak dishes, which were very good. The only reason for not giving the restaurant a higher rating is simply that it’s prices are a bit high, especially the drinks. The food is good. If you want nearly as good food, for much less, walk a couple of blocks to My Mexican House. But, this is also very good, and if you are trying to impress people with your willingness to eat delicious Mexican cuisine, and in a nicely decorated space, come here. It is definitely on my rotation!

Ok, so back we went as promised. Why did we wait so long ???(kicking ourselves in the butt) Fantastic. We went right for dinner this time and skipped the apps. Chips and salsa first were great as usual. Yes, as some other reviewers have expressed, the salsa is a little less thick than we like, but really not a problem(just man-up and lean over a plate when you eat & you won’t drip any on your lap). My Camarones Tequila(bacon-wrapped shrimp stuffed with white cheese and covered with mushrooms) was, well,…“there-wasn’t-anything-left-to-take-home” good. My girlfriend’s Camarones Al Diablo was just as good ! Tried a mango margarita this time and it was VERY tasty. Service was very prompt and professional. Once again, we had a great time.

Stopped in this weekend for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! We were immediately provided with chips and fresh salsa to snack on as we perused the menu. I started with a glass of the red sangria(which was perfect) and my friends and I shared an appetizer of guac, nachos, chicken chimichangas, and flautas — definitely enough for 3 – 4 people! We were extremely impressed with the appetizers and couldn’t get enough of the guac(which says A LOT considering none of us are big guac lovers!). I had the stuffed strip steak which was cooked to perfection. The dish is served with mushrooms, peppers, and a tomato sauce on top, along with refried beans and rice. You are definitely getting your moneys worth with the portions. My friends got the enchiladas and fajitas, which were both just as phenomenal. The service was very attentive and the décor was gorgeous. Bright blue walls with unique artwork everywhere. Dimly lit with a cool vibe. We dined to the sounds of the Gypsy Kings, which I could never complain about. This place is definitely great for lunch, dinner, a date, or a social gathering. I can’t wait to go back!

Great food and even better margaritas! We always feel so welcome when we eat at this restaurant. Our most recent visit was close to their closing time but the waiter invited us in & assured us we could come in and eat.

A bit on the pricey side… they have great guacamole though! Their salsa verde is great and they let you substitute options on the combos usually if you ask. Quick service. Yummy chips

Found myself in this part of the woods after a hike upstate. Some of these other reviews seem odd to me. Fast service? I don’t think so. Took me 25 minutes to get my enchiladas. I am from Texas so have eaten tons and tons of Mexican food. This place has the flavors right, but that’s about it. First — the salsa. Some people prefer salsa chunkier, some people like it smoother. This salsa was so watery it was basically like tomato juice with a few pieces of onion, jalapeño, etc. Traditional Mexican salsa is NEVER like this, so I suspect it was watered down to save money? Secondly, my enchiladas were very average. The plate was overflowing with refried beans and Mexican rice, and three TINY enchiladas in the center. I would have been okay with that, but there was hardly any chicken inside there. It was like eating a tortilla with sauce. Again, the principle here seems to be fill the plate with cheap ingredients and limit the amount of chicken/beef on each person’s place. The inside is cozy and service was friendly, hence the two stars. But I can’t even bring myself to give a restaurant 3 stars if they’re in the business of watering down everything to save money. Especially when most items on their menu are priced between 15 – 20 dollars. Never again.

I’m so happy that I finally decided to check out Tequila Sal Y Limon. I’ve known about it for years, but never went in. With all due respect, the storefront leaves a lot to be desired. But, once inside, the place is intimate and welcoming. The prices are a bit high compared with other mexican restaurants nearby, but the service and variety on the menu more than made up for it. In addition, they have a children’s menu(which is not posted on their website). For anyone with gluten dietary restrictions, there were plenty of dishes available, including enchiladas made from corn flour tortillas, or dishes made without any flour ingredients. The complimentary chips and salsa were delicious, although we added salt to our tortillas. The salsa was perfect — not too mild but not too spicy, complete with pieces of fresh cilantro & onion. It was hard to stop — I think our table went through at least 3 servings of chips, which the waitstaff cheerfully replenished. This time I had the Brocheta Mixta, made with shrimp, chicken, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, and onions. The ingredients were quite fresh and the portion was large, accompanied by delicious red rice dotted with corn & peas, plus refried beans with melted cheese on top. The shrimp and chicken could have used a bit more seasoning or salt, but it was really good anyway. There is full bar service, including frozen drinks. The piña colada did not disappoint. We received a complimentary mini-mudslide when the check came.(A nice touch, but not entirely necessary.) I’m looking forward to going back in the future so that I can work my way through the menu. It did not help that as we were leaving I got a whiff of someone’s sizzling fajita platter. It smelled awesome. I also hope to check out their flautas and guacamole at some point, too. It’s probably important to go early for a meal, as the place is small and by the time we left at the peak of the dinner hour, it was starting to get crowded, and there isn’t much room to wait at the bar.

I’m from NYC but staying over in Jersey for a business trip. I am an advocate for mexican food. I was so surprised to find such a quaint gem in the small town of Suffern. Very lovely and inviting atmosphere. Friendly and pleasant hostess. I don’t remember my waiters name but he was awesome. Very pleasant and attentive. And now for the food! Authentic mexican! Love, love, LOVE! I had the vegetable burrito with refried beans and rice. It was the best I’ve had to date. As an avid mexican food lover, I approve this place! Great spot, first date, re-date, families, friends. You wil enjoy it

Fantastic food!!! Shrimp, guacamole, fajitas, margarita, AAA+++ Service was fast and courteous. The place looks like a tiny little hut from outside, but is beautifully paneled, with coffered ceilings inside. Dark and moody with flamenco music setting a wonderful mood. Worth a visit!

I have been here probably 7 – 8 times over the past two years and have always had a superb experience. The food is delicious, fresh and authentic(the guacamole is to die for!). The margaritas are strong and flavorful and the bartender is gracious and welcoming. Charming ambience. Plus, I love the complimentary post-dinner drink. :) I will definitely be back!

Their Salsa and chips are the best I’ve ever had. I also had the Crabmeat Tostada and it was a generous serving for an appetizer

I have had many meals here. The shrimp fajitas, chicken mole, and the vegetarian combo plate are all excellent. Very nice margaritas. Friendly service. The free chips and salsa to start must be homemade-served warm and fabulous!

The best guacamole & nachos period. I love this place. I go here quite often and have had every dish on the menu. The owner is a very nice person. It’s a small place, so it gets crowded quickly. You can’t lose on whatever dish you decide on.

Taste is ok for pricey restaurant. The ambiance is very local, family type of setting. I don’t find any special from this place. Again, the price is quite expensive. For fajitas, it’s $ 19.95

Walk on the door and you are 1 foot from the bar… perfect if you are very thirsty but not a seat you want to eat at. Food is bland and uninspired. Margaritas are overpriced for what tasted like a pre maid mix.

Holy guacamole! This guacamole is delicious, predominately because it’s not heavy on garlic but includes lovely tomato bits. The portions on the actual plates of food are huge! All dishes pretty much come with beans and rice, but by the time I finish the man, I never get to chow down on these sides. I’m not the biggest fan of spice, but I hear that that’s where they excel. I imagine that being the case as my food doesn’t always excite my tastebuds like it seems to of my family’s and boyfriend’s. Margaritas are delicious though. We typically get our choice of flavors and/or rocks vs. frozen. I also believe they have pitchers of sangria which makes me happy. Best Mexican spot in the Ramapo area. It just can sometimes be hard to find. Make a right at the end of the Main Street and keep walking(1 – 2 blocks.)

If you had to choose one Mexican place in Suffern, I would probably suggest to come here. Came on a Friday night and had to wait a few minutes for a table. This place has about 12 tables, I’m guessing. Didn’t order guacamole this time, but overall, it’s fresher and better quality than the other two well known mexican establishments in town.

Nearly 5 stars. I went here for the second time and it was just as good as I remember. Large portions and great food. This blows the other Mexican places in suffern out of the water.
