This is potentially a little gem of a place, worth four stars for the food. But I’m rating the overall experience here and the non-food issues knock it back to three stars. First the good. Look at the photo of the business and they advertise hand-made tortillas on their sign out in front. They ain’t kidding. These are some of the best tortillas I’ve had. Nice, fresh taste. Thicker than most corn tortillas. If you’ve never had a fresh made tortilla, try them here or at El Rincon on Greenbrae Drive in Sparks. Delicious. I was trying to decide between the shrimp cocktail and the steak. They were out of shrimp so I went with the steak. Also delicious. A nice cut of meat with some good seasoning. The people cooking the food here know what they’re doing. The refried beans are a better example of refried beans. Thick(not soupy) and good flavor. They also give you a dab of salsa that is really tasty. Next time I’ll see if I can order a whole side of salsa. Now the bad. I walked in and they seemed surprised to see me. It was awkward until I seemed to convince them I was really there to eat. They had one other customer while I was there and he was a gringo, so I’m not sure why it was so awkward for me. Second, they had the television turned up to ear splitting volume. I guess I should have asked them to turn it down and maybe if there wasn’t that awkwardness when I first walked in I would have done it. And third, the translation of the name of the business in English would be Sun Coast, but that place was freaking cold. I was shivering by the end of my meal. So that detracts from the experience. Another thing I didn’t like is that they didn’t serve chips and salsa. But the steak was only $ 9, so given the low price, that was fair. I saw an option to buy nachos. Next time I’ll buy chips and salsa if it brings the same salsa I had on the plate. I’ve found you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince, er, princess. And Costa Del Sol is potentially a princess, if you can get around some of the other issues. It’s been open for four months. It shares a parking lot with the convenience store at Second Avenue and Sun Valley Boulevard.
