We ended up here for dinner after a long day of training, only to be a bit disappointed at what we received for $ 80+ dollars. My lobster bisque was overly creamy and not seasoned well(without the crostini it would have been a minor fail) and our sides were mediocre, with the mashed potatoes being quite good, and the rice pilaf cold and flavorless. While I enjoyed the red meat, the chicken was flavored with a very heavy hand(and I like salt) and even though I wanted dessert nothing in the least grabbed me, they seem to focus almost entirely on fondue here, of which I’m not much of a fan. All in all I would probably go to the other location first even though they have air issues. I like the concept, but am not a huge fan of the menu at this locale.

This place is too expensive for what it offers. The stars are for the service and the filet mignon. The cheese fondue was the worst I’ve ever had. It was just about edible but the cheese was just really cheap orange stuff that u get in the supermarket and the bread was stale. The filet mignon was the saving grace. Very tender and tasty. The salad was a mega rip off! It was literally a quarter of the size of any salad ive ever seen in the states with THREE super thin slices of avocado. The drinks were fine. Be warned, one of the menu options(your choice of fondue and salad) doesn’t make financial sense. You can order them separately for cheaper! Stupid.

Expensive novelty. Wannabe chefs get to grill meat on a hot volcanic rock that has been machined to a smooth surface. Trouble is, it is very difficult to sear meat as these stones do not maintain nor dissipate heat uniformly for extended periods of time. The restaurant also does not marinate its meat. Seasoning meat during the cooking process does not develop adequate flavor. Of course, from a restaurant perspective, this is an attractive business model. No need to hire expensive chefs. Simply purchase meat, hire run-of-the-mill cooks to sauté vegetables and mash potatoes, and let customers do the cooking. How can one justify returning food they just cooked for themselves?

I absolutely loved this place. Food was great, and the service was friendly. Pretty pricey for every day, but for an occasion it was perfect.

Bad experience. Service was very slow and the staff wasn’t very pleasant when we asked why it’s taking so long given that they are serving raw meat. Steaks and cheese fondue were good overall, I wasn’t satisfied with anything else.

What a ripoff! Every time I return there I forget how upset they made me last time. This time I am writing review. I am mainly unhappy about prices. If you don’t eat meat of fish, the choice is fondue and they give you smallest amount possible and charge the largest possible. No other fondue restaurants that I visited give you almost couple of table spoons cheese portions and call it a meal. To: Rok Bistro if you ever read it. This is a robbery. Fix the portion sizes and prices.

Called the restaurant and asked them if they would be able to accommodate a baby and they said«sure, come on over». It was a nice gentleman who answered the phone and I was really excited about going there! If only he was still there when we arrived. So we went there, only to be greeted by a very nonchalant server who didn’t really care that we had a baby with us(who was getting impatient as well). When we told him about the high chair he was like«Oh, you can’t seat a baby with a high chair on our tables because of the hot stones, and the switch, etc.» So when I mentioned my phone conversation to him, he said, «Oh, you must have called our San Jose location, we haven’t got a call like that all evening» * We asked him if we could have a table where we could seat the four of us and the baby and he said, oh, that will be 20 mins. It’s not like they had reservations, he was just being very unaccommodating. Most restaurants are super accommodating when it comes to kids, so it was really a complete buzz kill. We left and had an amazing meal at the Prolific Oven, which was down the road, and the servers were way, way nicer. Too much attitude for a place with 3.5 stars. * When I went back home, I checked the number, and called it to confirm, and it was in fact the Sunnyvale location, not the San Jose one.

Wonderful date night restaurant. I assume either the manager or the owner(older gentleman) was INCREDIBLY nice! The restaurant is in a cute little neighborhood and is tucked away among a strip of stores. It’s easy to miss, but trust me, you won’t want to. :) The service was great; the food, delicious. We were treated like close friends/family at our host’s dinner table. The garlic herb cheddar fondue was WONDERFUL! It came with a bowl of bread chunks and various veggies, as well as a couple of green apple chunks. The waiter refilled the bread for us, which was nice. Obviously one of the coolest things about this place is the super-heated rocks that you cook your food on. I enjoyed the novelty, as well as the fact that my 8 oz filet was SODELICIOUS. I got the mashed potatoes(nothing wrong with them but nothing to write home about) and the sautéed onions, which were fab. The mushroom sauce on the side… I could have eaten like four of those. Get extra! We were too full for dessert, but we had a super delicious meal. Would DEFINITELY come back, and partially just because the owner/manager made us feel so at home!

Rok Bistro takes a niche in cooking. A little do it yourself is required, as the main entrée is presented to you half cooked on a «hot rock’. The premise is that you cook your meat on the rock. If you have beef, you can cook it anyway you like. Rare, medium rare, or a leather boot, it’s your choice. Unfortunately, chicken comes out half cooked, so you have to properly cook that yourself. This type of niche is not for me. I’m not the type to cook my own steak while paying a premium. Unfortunately, the sauce pairings and quality of the meats did not meet my expectations for such a high price tag.

First time here and the server was really nice and explained how everything works since it was my first time here with my girlfriend. We got the romancing on the stone(something like that) and it was for 2 people. However, the quantify was alright. Wasn’t really satisfying. Maybe because we were hungry. Overall, nice atmosphere and friendly server. Btw, u will come out the restaurant smelling like steaks lol.

It was a nice experience overall. Meat and seafood quality was pretty good and service was very nice as well… veggies were rather chuncky and bread was so-so. I was hoping to get a real French baguette. However it is too pricey. Over $ 100 for 2 for the regular Rok menu and 2 wines. If you ask me, $ 75 tip included would have been the right pricing.

Great Service, Great Food. Romancing the Stone = the bomb. it came with filet mignon, buffalo, ahi tuna, chicken cooked and served on a freaking hot volcano stone plus 4 sides for you to choose. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here(b/c we used a groupon and had low expectation coming in). Besides, we also ordered a clam chowder soup, which was extremely delicious!

I came here this past weekend to celebrate my daughter’s and my birthday. For our family of 4, we ordered the following: 1. Salads: Citrus & Caesar(both were ok), nothing to rave about 2. California Dreamin cheese fondue: We didn’t like this at all, they put so much alcohol in it, all you can taste was the alcohol. We also didn’t like the food that accompanied the cheese fondue(stale bread, pickled onions, etc.) 3. Entrees: Filet mignon & garlic herb chicken, both with rice pilaf and loaded mashed potatoes(both of our meats lacked flavor, the rice was not cooked all the way and the loaded mashed potatoes was too rich) 4. 2 Pepperoni pizzas: no comment since I didn’t eat any 5. Snickers bar chocolate fondue: For dessert, it wasn’t sweet enough and the food that accompanied it was either gross(butter cubes covered in ground cinnamon, truffles) or just ok(fruits) The 2 stars is actually for customer service, which was excellent. We had 3 people that helped us throughout the meal(take orders, refill waters and take our dirty plates). Bathroom was clean and smelled good. Overall, I wouldn’t come back due to the low quality of the food and the portions were tiny for the price they charged. We were pretty much forcing food down our throat because we didn’t enjoy the food as much as we thought we would.

We were walking around the farmers market on Saturday afternoon and a host was handing out filet mignon samples. It was really delicious and we picked up their menu flyer. Reading their handout menu, we saw their cheese fondue was only $ 8 per person! Awesome! So when we stepped in, sat down and opened our menu we were shocked that the menu said it was $ 10.99 per person for fondue! After speaking to the waitress, she said she would honor the $ 8 price we first saw. Later she told us it was an old menu and they won’t make that mistake putting those out again… Whatever. We ordered the Original Swiss Fondue(for 2) and the Hanger Tenderloin. The fondue took 10 mins to come out… And they just put down the double boiler and cheese out next to it and didn’t come back for another 5 minutes so my bf and I decided to start mixing the fondue ourselves(we told them we were new) then the waitress came by and said, «oh! I should be doing this…» And she started mixing the fondue. The bread with the fondue was extremely stale and seemed it was from yesterday and the veggies were super cold. Both of which I do not want in my fondue. Though the cheese was pretty good and we luckily picked up a baguette while at the farmers market and used that bread instead. The hanger steak and a CRAZY big piece of silver skin straight through the middle. After slicing it out and adding salt the their flavorless chimichurri sauce, we had an OK meal. As for the service, there was only 1 other table in here initially and they were getting all the attention because they knew the other staff members… While we fumbled with our fondue. When we finally received the bill, of course the discount promised was not applied. We asked the waitress for the discount again, and when she came back with the applied discount it was still a dollar less than promised. We paid the bill anyway because it wasn’t worth waiting another 5 minutes. Overall, we will not come back and are extremely glad we paid the $ 8.50 per person for the fondue instead of $ 11.

I’m not sure how to feel about Rok Bistro. Ate lunch here a few weeks ago and ordered a sirloin tip steak lunch set with sautéed vegetables. It was whatever — not particularly great, but not downright horrible either. I panicked while cutting my steak into smaller pieces and everything became overcooked… so there’s that? The sauces definitely helped me chow down the tough pieces, but I still think the frozen butters(casino and bleu cheese) were gross. Maybe next time(if there is one), I won’t overcook my meat and will have a 4-star experience.

Such a fun dining experience! With homage to traditional fondue in the cheese and dessert courses, entrée meals are a completely different ballpark — your meal comes served partially seared on a 700 degree volcanic rock that you then finish cooking at your table. I had heard of Rok through Unilocal and my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try for a fun and different date night, we were completely impressed. For the first course(cheese fondue) we went with California Dreamin’ — monterey jack, pepper jack and parmigiano-reggiano cheeses, with white wine, garlic, onion, & thyme, absolutely bursting with flavor. This was served with a bowl of bite-sized bread and a side of green apples and vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. For entrees I opted for prawns and scallops while my boyfriend went with New York strip steak. So much fun cooking these to your liking right in front of you. Both my boyfriend’s steak and my seafood were seasoned well. The entrees are served with dipping sauces and your choice of two sides. And finally, dessert, beautiful chocolate fondue. We went with a combination of dark and milk chocolate which was served with fresh fruit and an assortment of sweets such as marshmallows and rice krispy treats. We were about ready to pop after all this! Our service was also excellent. Our server Juan was kind, funny and extremely knowledgeable of the menu. The only reason Rok Bisto doesn’t get a full 5 stars for me was the price for what you get. Now, not saying that I would actually want any more food than what we ate but for the price you do pay the dipping items you get seemed a little skimpy to me.

My best friend and I finally came to check out this place for lunch after wanting to come here for quite a few years. Just the thought of cooking your food on a scorching stone kind of intrigued me so I had to see what this place was all about. It also helped that I had a $ 20 groupon as well. Walking in I was taken aback because I assumed since it was Saturday, the farmers market was right out front and they had this groupon that more people would be there but there was only a few people there. This did not deter me, I was still excited about giving this place a try. As soon as you sit at the tables they are equipped with a stovetop or heating surface of some sort that is used to cook the fondue and the servers do that right at the table. Since it was our first time there the server explained the menu and the whole concept of Rok and how things work when the food comes out. We both ordered the sirloin with mashed potatoes and I added the casino butter. When the food came out it was quite interesting, we really had to cook our food on the stone. In order for it to be cooked thoroughly and to our liking we had to cut the steak in bite sized pieces. I was disappointed that when the meal was brought out my mashed potatoes were cold, not ok. There were dipping sauces provided one was a chimichurri sauce and the other was supposed to be barbecue sauce but it was watery and had chunks of tomato in it. Unfortunately they did not have steak sauce of any kind and that’s a bit odd. The steak was very good and well seasoned and one we received new and hot mashed potatoes those were good as well. A few suggestions is they they should offer steak sauce or sauces that really compliment the dishes, make sure all the food is brought out hot and the staff should be a bit more attentive. Overall it was an ok place, I would come back for the steak again and I would love to try out the fondue as well but having to cut up and cook my food was a bit of a hassle so choosing something already cooked may suit me well. The experience was interesting to say the least.

Took my boyfriend here for a celebration dinner and ordered the Romancing the Stone which included: Entrée for Two Entrée for Two; Tastes of Filet Mignon, Buffalo, Ahi and Chicken — Includes 4 Sides. it was AMAZING! We also added the Rok n Pot Jr.(A Three-Course option with your Entrée includes Salad and your choice of either Cheese Fondue or Chocolate Fondue) because we LOVETOEAT and i’ll tell you, don’t combine the two unless your party is prepared for some SERIOUSNOMMING. The portions were perfect. The meats on the rock were enough(not too much, not too little) to fill our tummy’s up. Our four sides(Sautéed Mushrooms, Mashed Potatoes, Sautéed Onions, and the side of the day) was plentiful and tasty! We recommend the Mushroom Bacon Swiss(I believe we ordered it without mushroom) for cheese fondue and the Chocolate Hazelnut for our dessert(chocolate fondue)!!! A must try(at least once!) place! Make sure to make a reservation as tables can book quickly!

It’s been a few years since we’ve been here and since my daughter loves fondue we thought we’d take her here since the hubs and I LOVED it the last time we visited here. Yes, this time is was lunch so the menu is a tad different but not much. Surprisingly the place was pretty quiet for a Saturday afternoon during the Farmers Market right out front. We got a window seat so we could people watch which was nice. We ordered the Swiss fondue for 3, the Hawaiian chicken and a chicken club sandwich which the hubs and I split. Fondue was yummy buy for $ 30 is was WAYTOSMALL. The bowl wasn’t even half way filled which since this was the main reason we came here, we were all very disappointed. But we’d still come back because … well … it’s cheese and there really isn’t another great fondue place other than La Fondue which isn’t open for lunch. My daughter’s Hawaiian chicken came of the hot lava rock which was cool but the taste was blah. She really only ate a 1⁄3 of it and brought the rest home which of course she never ate. The club sandwich also came with the chicken on the hot rock and then we put the sandwich together ourselves. It was«okay» but nothing I’d order ever again. Cute place, nice staff, stick to the fondue but order extra cheese so bring more $$. Yes… we’ll be back for cheese and chocolate someday I’m sure. Cheese … it’s just that good.
