KINGCRAB was HUGE! Great flavor. Ask for market price before you get surprised at your bill. 3 King Crab leg dinner is $ 100. Make a reservation if you want a nice sit down away from the bar. Server was great! Don’t remover his name but he’s the owners son. Would come back.

A greet dive bar with great food. Went on Christmas Eve for dinner and it was really fun. Great staff, good food and a lively crowd I will go back to just sit and listen to live music. Definitely a local bar, but everyone is happy and friendly.

This is an odd place. I expected more since it’s sort of famous. My first time here, I was a bit confused. I walked around the place twice looking for a bar. I even walked around the outside thinking I missed something. Nope. No bar. Not sure why people call it a bar. It’s a restaurant that also serves alcohol. Some people stop in and have a couple beers, but it’s not a bar. This fact was off-putting. But, the food was ok. Not great, but ok. The atmosphere was also ok. No music, was absolutely sucks. And you can just stand outside and drink a beer. It was maybe the most awkward experience I have ever had at a place. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do, didn’t know how to order food, they don’t give you a menu until you’re at the cash register, then they’re just like«what do you want?» How the fuck do I know, I haven’t looked at the menu yet. Then, after I was in line, I realized, you have to grab your beer and pay first, so then I had to get back in line to have a beer. The experience was a bit unpleasant. But, now that I know all that’s, it’s not as bad. But, I won’t come here to often. I prefer the more sit down dark bar atmosphere. This is the opposite of that. Plus, I like to listen to music.

** Summary ** Why is this place so highly reviewed?! It’s a somewhat upscale dive-bar with pricey food, small portions, and mediocre food quality. Not much fun if you’re under 40 years old.(Combined total of booths and tables is about 10 – 20; smaller-sized bar with kitchen.) ** Details ** Stopped at King Neptune’s last weekend with a friend to grab dinner before going to Seal Beach for the real festivities. We’re both 28 years old and when the bartenders saw us come in they looked us up-and-down like«Don’t these youngsters know this is a bar for ‘Baby Boomers’?» I’m pretty sure we were the youngest customers this place has seen in at least seven years. Knew this was a dive bar but didn’t know they charged premiums on food and drinks due to its location. This place is charging like its hot-shit on Balboa Peninsula when its actually plopped-down in drug-addled Sunset Beach between a crummy motel and a self-serve car wash. Nothing on the dinner menu was under $ 15. I ordered a New York steak with mashed potato($ 22) and a draft Coors Light($ 5), friend got a cocktail($ 7) and fish-n-chips($ 18). Received our drinks and as we waited for our meals more«glory-daze-era» customers poured in; friend and I stood out like screaming toddlers. Received our food and it was mediocre. My steak was the size of a stapler, the potato the size of a tennis ball, and the veggies were so soggy with water they looked like they just came out of a jacuzzi. Friend reported that his fish-n-chips were not worth it. Service was good enough to barely keep this review in two-star territory. Avoid.

Good drinks. Bar tenders almost make you feel like they are doing you a favor. Looking for fun. Not here.

Went here for a Birthday Party… The place was full, had a band that played 70 – 90’s music, good drinks, GREAT food, excellent service… I would go here again if only for the food.

The food here is surprisingly good. From outside looks like a sports bar, but the chef is amazing and the food is very well priced. You get an entire meal here for what you pay for just an entrée at other places nearby. When you enter take a hard left and go sit in the dining room area. It is completely separate from the bar. Your waiter will take your drink order and bring your food. This is a family owned restaurant and bar. I highly recommend this place. My good friends Kevin and Diane were raving about this dive bar food for a long time and I finally gave it a try. Wow! were they right.

Juan was the nicest — super friendly! We also saw a member of a band that is a local here. That’s the type of establishment this is. Great cocktails, fun atmosphere, best dive bar around. I’m pretty sure Juan gave us a killer discount on our bill because 5 of us had two rounds of drinks for really cheap. Can’t wait to come back, and maybe this time we’ll get a picture with the local celebrity!

My brothers band plays here so I started coming a lot. It’s cool, the bartenders are really nice! I tried the half rack rib dinner, pretty good! Clam chowder not bad. I’m very picky with clam chowder. I wouldn’t choose this place to go eat a dinner but if your partying, there’s a pretty good menu!

Total dive bar, but in a really good way, with some gourmet-type food, Cool bartenders, really good food, had the crab legs and baby back ribs, both excellent. Met many cool people here, crowd’s a mixture of old and young. Bartender introduces new drinks or tequila choices at times, very cool service. I’ve seen good, rocking bands here also, gets really loud and crowded at times, but good music, food, and people are always pretty much an unbeatable combination.

From the outside this restaurant/bar wouldn’t look like there would be much going on here but as soon as you open the door and hear the sounds of live music you will know that you were completely wrong. This spot is in a key location on Pacific Coast Highway in the cute little town of Sunset Beach, Ca. Where exactly is Sunset Beach, Ca. It’s on PCH in between Huntington Beach and Seal Beach. J King Neptunes is a Family owned restaurant owned and ran by Jose Alvarez thus is where the«J» comes into play in J King Neptunes. First and foremost the live music on the weekends is a plus. The atmosphere here is lively and up beat. A stage for the band sits in the corner in front of a small dance floor for those feeling the urge to boogie woogie. The menu has a little bit of everything from swordfish to bleu cheese burgers. Their clam chowder makes a delightful warm appetizer or a hearty meal. Now let’s get to the good part. Their drink menu. The 2 main bartenders Nick and Juan both have years in the business and they both have signature drinks that you must try. Juan, the owners Son is an avid competitor in bartending contests all over the world. If you don’t know what to drink just leave it to these two mixologists to concoct you a drink that will have you wondering where they learned how to pour complete heaven in a glass. Well…I need to get back on the dance floor so I got to go. Hope to see you all here someday soon. First round on me.

The Appetizers are way overpriced, but other than that it was a good experience. I tried swordfish for the first time and it was very good. Clam chowder and rice pilaf is recommended. However the food doesn’t match the setting. The service was great.
