Petco

This place is disgusting. The smell of animal waste as you approach the entrance is unbearable. Once inside, the stinging smell of urine make you want to cut the shopping trip super short.
GO ELSEWHERE.

Great Petco location. Normal stock. Friendly staff.
I do find it really odd that all of the local Petco stores lock the adoption cats away so you can’t pet them. I’m sure the cats would prefer to get some attention, rather that just be stared at.

I have gotten my boy Maverick, a toy Pomeranian groomed by Karen at PetCo. She did an amazing job all 6 times I have taken him so far. I should have written this sooner, especially since so many of the other big box pet grooming salons do such a poor job but I have to say… if you ask for her, you will not be disappointed. My dog loves her and I don’t know many that will willingly get their nails clipped.

They are unorganized and provide poor customer service. I had a 9:30 appointment for a full groom. I came by at 1:30 to pick up my dog. And he wasn’t ready yet. I asked to speak with a manager and David said it my fault for not reporting an accurate pick up time.
Not Happy with the Grooming Salon.

I call & ask for the biggest location in Austin & the sales person says she doesn’t know. No attempt to find out at all. I call PetSmart & boom, my question answered in less than 20 seconds.

I shop there for cat food, but I went in to buy some aquarium stuff for my beta fish. My husband bought their bamboo to put in the tank with my fish. I would have told him no if I had known that the bamboo picked out was in a tank with fish in it. I’ve had beta fish and successfully kept them for 11 years. I’ve never had any issues with them and know how to take care of them. We washed the bamboo and put it in the tank and by the next day he was dead!
We dumped EVERYTHING out of the tank and once again cleaned ALL of the stuff. Scrubbed it and rinsed it very well. We went to a different store and bought a new beta fish and brought it home. Not knowing if it was just a coincidence we put all of the same CLEAN stuff back in the tank with the new beta fish, INCLUDING the bamboo.
A week later he was dead. He was perfectly healthy, he was eating and swimming around then yesterday he started acting funny. He was darting around in his tank and was basically nose diving and laying on the bottom of the tank. I know what swim bladder looks like and that definitely wasn’t it. Now I have two dead beta fish and the ONLY common denominator was the frikken bamboo. I knew I shouldn’t have put it in there, especially from a place where selling fish is just a novelty rather than the main business. I was very sad though, I really loved my first beta fish and the second one we got was pretty nifty.
I took it out and am just keeping it as a plant OUTSIDE of the tank, but now I have all of these items and no fish. I’m very disappointed.

Kat and the girls at the groomers are awesome! I came in nervous about bringing in my new rescue who had been on a chain in a yard for who knows how long. They totally understood where I was coming from, made me feel super comfy about it and Kat volunteered to take him as she said she was the fastest and would make sure he was ok the whole time. Honestly, they were so great at reassuring this fussy, new Momma. When I came back he was on the table looking fine, and totally 100% calm. Kat and the crew are awesome! And I will be back again. Also I have to mention that I have shopped at the store now on more than one occasion and I always find the staff to be super helpful.

I’m a super loyal Petco customer I love that place except this one I will NEVER EVER go back, today I went there to buy food and had the worst experience ever,
I bought two bags of pro purina focus that was on sale, I admit the sale was a bad idea I knew there was a reason I ignored it, when I got home I opened both bags to put them in the food containers that we out all the food in and BOTH bags have bugs crawling around through all the dog food, we called the store to tell them about the situation, the manager who we spoke to on the phone was nice about it and told us to throw the food and bring in the receipt to exchange it, we had one employ be very rude with us telling us we had to bring the food in that’s how it works, then the manager helped us out with another employ, they were nice
I’m glad they let us exchange food but now I have to check every bag of dog food for bugs

Being a new dog owner, I found the options for dog food to be a lot to go through. I asked a woman for help. She was cold and very snippy with her replies. Kinda fustrated I was ready to leave when I decided to ask another employee. Dorey was a god send. Calm, kind, and genuinely spoke from the heart. She offered not only options and advice about food, but also tips and first time tricks to welcoming my new four legged friend into my home. She didn’t rush me or try to «sell» me products. If you want to know what great customer service is, go ask for Dorey. Completely changed my shopping visit and made me feel at ease and confident with my purchases. Thanks dorey.

Worst customer service. Employee Bailey barely has a pulse. Is more worried about getting in trouble with her GM over actually asking her manager to help her in my simple, single item return transaction. I stopped shopping here years ago due to rats, horrible smell and bad customer service. I had to come here for an item that I can’t get at my regular, local place. I should have ordered it from Amazon. I would have been able to return it and have my money back in less time that it took me to write this review.

And this is why I only support small local pet stores. Poor customer service. Don’t raise your voice in a defensive manor when I ask a simple question if you carry a product. My bad for coming here out of convenience to the location.

Omg. The reviews of this place are hilarious. I’ve actually had all good experiences, even tho the place smells gawd awful bad. I always thought it was the caged rodents because it only takes one to make my whole house reek. Even when we keep the cage immaculate. Rodents are smelly!
I love the puppy training classes … Jenna is the bomb. She will have your dog obeying commands like you never thought possible in no time.
I also buy crickets and mealworms here regularly. I can tell you they have only improved the quality over the last year. I used to find mostly dead bugs in the containers and these days they are fresh and lively.
It can be hard to find an employee to help me but when I do they are always super friendly. I like these people a lot.
The healthy dog food selection is great and the prices are good too.

Holy smokes this place is HUGE! I went in looking for a change of pace from the same old stuff and found a whole new world of things. Found some good treats, but overall the dog food was more expensive. I do like that they have an above average fish section. I will have to go back and check it out. They also had saltwater fish!

Upon walking to the entrance the garbage can right outside the door is piled high with trash that’s spilling over. Not a great 1^st impression. The store itself seemed dirty and old. I had to walk around for about 10 minutes to find someone to help me. However, once I found someone she was a big help and showed me where the product was I that I was searching for. I will only come back if it’s absolutely necessary. Please pay attention to detail and spruce up your store and hire more help.

Was just in Petco, we are loyal customers, to buy dog food and a bully stick. We brought in our dog as we always do. We normally go to the one in Westlake, not the one on Brodie Lane. We will never return and may start going to Petsmart.
While we were in there an employee came up to us and asked us to clean some pee and said it was from our dog. I was with my dog the entire time and did not see him pee. I said to the man, I’m sorry but I don’t think that was my dog. Under his breadth he said «Your dog is the only dog in the store.» We offered to clean it anyway and he said went to clean it. As we were leaving, we heard the same man loudly say «I’m cleaning up after someone else’s dog.» It made us so uncomfortable, instead of buying anything else we hurried out of the store. We will NEVER be back. How rude. How unprofessional.

This review is for the Groomer, Alyssa. I get upset with PetSmart and I go to PetCo, I get upset with PetCo, I go back to PetSmart… But this time was different! My 6 yr old German Shepherd is the perfect dog, except at the vet… He is terrified! He screams, yes screams, and bolts for the door! He is taking you and anyone else in his way, out the door with him. And he is very vocal about it! I stopped taking him to have his nails trimmed because it is simply too stressful for all involved.
Then, he stubbed a toe, bruising deep into the root of his nail. My husband and I took him in to have them trimmed. ALYSSA was AMAZING! She saw us struggling to get in the door, so she immediately came over to help us. She was calm, extremely quick and firm but gentle with my dog. She had his nails trimmed before he knew what was going on! Alyssa is my Hero! She is my new groomer! She has a natural talent that can’t be taught! Thank you Oh So Very Much for helping with my dog. You’re the best!

I’m not a Petco fan. I find the aisles to be very narrow and the employees difficult to track down when you need assistance. I only come here because I need live rodents for my pet snakes and Petsmart charges too much for theirs (to discourage people from buying them as feeders). Overall, I think Petco is overpriced and does not offer a pleasant shopping experience. This location is no exception. I’m giving it three stars instead of two because when I can actually track him down, the manager is very helpful and a nice man. Other than that, I dread going here.

Well as usual I wanted to buy something here and once again I see only one register open with 12 people waiting on line. I found the manager who was on the phone. When he hung up I brought it to his attention that 12 people were on line for one register. He said «I only have three people working today» I replied, «Well maybe you should hire more people.» He said «I was on the phone with my wife, she had an emergency»
Well sorry about your home problems, but most people shop on the week-​ends and just having three employee’s working is on a Sunday is just plain stupid. I’m thinking this, I didn’t say this. The manager opens up another register buy by this time there are more people on line, so I put down what I was going to buy and left. I ordered the product online instead. I notice in this store the customer service is not what it should be. Employee’s act like they are doing you a favor helping you. With Petsmart just down the street, I will spend my money there from now on.
Miss the days with the mom and pop stores.
Time for a new manager at this store because everytime I have shopped here, there was only one register open!!!

Just moved back to Austin and took one of my girls (not the human kind) to get groomed and cleaned up. The young lady that greeted us was fun, friendly, and LOVED my girl. They did a great job, my girl looks good.
My only concern, and it’s important, is that it does have an unpleasant odor. I know what dogs «do» and that it might be tough to clean up but it sure would make a difference.
The odor was a «dog gone bad» odor.

Ehhh… The store is clean, I’m not a fan of the layout when a customer first walks in, they changed that a few years ago, and I’ve just never really liked walking as a result. Not as inviting.
They do have decent inventory. Not the most. The store isn’t as large seeming as other pet stores in the area.
The staff is pretty nice. Not so much when they first open, but hey maybe neither was I! Overall, it’s ok, I don’t go here for much as rule.
