Great Portions, they really load it on for the price! Everyone was very friendly, staff moved the line along quickly. I think this is the BEST ice cream place on LBI!!!

Came here based on Unilocaler reviews. Spot on. Great place for a apres-dinner dessert. Big portions, but kind of on the pricey side. Note that the little dipper(2 scoops plus toppings, etc.) costs only like 50 cents more than just getting a double. Go big! We got the pistachio and salted caramel pretzel. Very good.

Best ice cream on LBI. Don’t be scared off by the long line on some weekends, they always have plenty of help and the line moves quickly. Definitely worth the wait.

I have been visiting the Big Dipper for over 20 years and it never disappoints. I will walk past 2 other ice cream shops to go here. The flavors are great and so are their portions. One scoop is all you ever need here(it’s more like 3 scoops anywhere else)!!!

Really good soft serve and the people working there are always so nice. Everything I have had there has been great! No complaining on my part! We waited in a little bit of a line tonight but it was nothing serious. We may have waited for 8 minutes… If that. Well worth it! Definitely a go to place in LBI

Great ice cream and lots of flavors! We ordered 8 different flavors to go and everyone enjoyed. There was a line, but it moved very quickly. Our server was friendly and she made sure each cup of our to go order was kept in the freezer until all our ice creams were ready. Sprinkles were place both in the bottom of the cup and on top of the ice cream. Oh yeh, our one scoop portions were more like two or larger from other ice cream stores. Very satisfied and we have no reason to go anywhere else during our stay!

Awesome Portions! Price was on par with mostly places around LBI. The Atmosphere is nice and the staff is funny. Parking is a little tight but overall one of my favorite places.

I’m not sure how anyone could give this spot positive reviews. It’s old, it’s run down and it looks like the business owners don’t try very hard. Did I mention that it smells funky too? The freezer cases along the wall looked empty or nearly empty. It felt like they were either going out of business or were hopefully about to have a renovation. The kid behind the counter looked super grumpy as he fought to scoop out someone’s ice cream. The strip mall that this place is located in is also severely dated. We walked in, looked around and walked out. We were too grossed out to try the ice cream. It bothers me when a business appears to be making no effort to try and standout. There are too many ice cream places to choose from on the island, do something to make me want to spend my money at your location.

They don’t call it the Big Dipper for nothing, these are *huge* servings. I always get a small and it’s more than enough for me. They have many flavors and toppings to choose from so it’s always hard to choose(though, personally, I always wind up getting soft serve). My favorite way to end a hot day on LBI!

Decided to stop here one night while we were down on vacation. Place was packed, very chaotic atmosphere. Had a lot of different flavors, ice cream tasted good. No indoor seating just benches outside. Prices were fair for what you get. Parking can be a little rough and if you didn’t know this place was here you could miss it. Overall I would go here again, enjoyed it just minor criticism.

I happened to stumble into The Big Dipper tonight. I stopped some where else before and they had closed a half an hour early. I walked in about twenty minutes before it closed, on a rainy night and the five employees in there were so happy and in a good mood. I got a double, and it was HUGE! The ice cream was delicious and the workers made the experience that much better! I’ll definitely be back next summer and will definitely recommend it!

Amazing ice cream. Perfect after spending a day in the sun! I ordered a small blueberry cheesecake, and though the ice cream itself was perfect and ambrosial, I was only able to finish half, since it’s such a huge portion! They have some seating inside the ice cream parlor, as well as benches just outside. They also have a ton of flavors to choose from. I must admit that it was my first time ever having blueberry cheesecake ice cream, but since I’m an avid fan of both things separately, I figured I’d give it a try and I was not disappointed. This place is a must-do if you’re visiting LBI!

Just a great ice cream place on LBI. They have the requisite 27 gazillion flavors, soft ice cream, hard ice cream, dozens of toppings to choose from, and if there’s a line, it moves quick thanks to the many staff manning the freezers. Always fun, always friendly, and some benches outside to sit on and watch your kids drip melted ice cream all over themselves.

We made our annual trek across the street to Big Dipper only to find the line at least 10 people outside the door. I convinced my wife to stay and she grudgingly agreed(she actually took advantage of the time to shop next door). Now I really like Big Dipper, but last night was a bit crazy and disorganized. Three of the four kids behind the counter seemed to be having fun and making the best of the situation, but you KNOW which person I got, right? Yep, the cranky guy who just wanted to be somewhere else. Oh well… Anyway, the experience and the ice cream just wasn’t what we’d come to expect. No new flavors, less than enthusiastic staff(ok, just OUR server), and a serious lack of consistency with serving sizes. My wife’s small cup had at least a full scoop more ice cream than my small cup… and the guy standing next to me with a smiling happy server got even more than my wife. The ice cream is still great, which is why they got three stars, but I think we’ll try a new place(up the street a couple blocks) the next time we go out for ice cream…

This place has only one review? I don’t get it… My family use to vacation down on LBI for over a decade and as we got older it didn’t happen as often due to the caloric needs of my parents and us children getting smaller but as kids we would go there almost every night for a week straight. Just like any good ice cream shop this place was basic when you walked in. Plenty of quick bright eyed college type kids or people home for the season who needed or already had a running job at the place. About 20 – 30 flavors of varying ice creams and sherberts and possibly some other items but other than the ice cream and your traditional toppings and cones you don’t need much else! And really that’s all they have ever had from my memory anyway. The seats outside are worn and sticky with years of people coming and going and dropping ice cream here and there… it seems wrong to like that sort of thing but I feel like it lends itself to the true character and soul of a place rather than the«aesthetics and ambiance.» After all let us not forget that we are of course at a little hole in the wall ice cream shop that’s been there for ages. And the best part is the scoops they give you are positively enormous. Though it seems like every ice cream shop is generous when they scoop this place really packs it in there(no pun intended.) I hope it’s around for another 50 years or however long it’s been there for so I can take my daughter and she can enjoy it just like I did!

We have two favorite ice cream places while in LBI. Skipper Dipper is down south(around 94th St.) and Big Dipper up north. Big Dipper is a little more expensive, but they give you huge portions. And the ice cream is awesome! Since it’s a little more out of the way, the lines aren’t quite as long as S.D. down south. Worth the drive!
