Monte Verde Trails Ranch

I had a fun experience doing the trail ride. The people were very nice at the front desk and our guide gave us lots of space during the ride. It was relaxed. They were very kind and understanding when I had to call and say we’re running late. They closed at 4 and waited till 4:30 for us to get there (damn LA traffic). We rode through shades trails and through streams in the Hansen Dam area. Go here!

I was worried about riding. I have not rode in decades, but the guide assured me I would be ok and would enjoy the trails. The rate is 30.00 an hour, and the trails were quite fun. I did the 2 hour ride and we went thru cool shady trails and even streams. The horses were great and alot to choose from. The new owners were excited, very friendly and willing to go out their way to make a customer feel safe, comfortable and to have fun! My horse was named Skunk, he was great. and beautiful and strong to. Im looking forward to my next ride.

I’ve been going to this place for years, now they changed everything, hired new girls who bother you on a trail for any stupid reason. Where is Carlos, Jesus, Jose? Nice and helpful guys! If you know what a horse is and you planning to have fun riding, this place is not for you, don’t spend your time and money, go somewhere else!

Let’s just say that you get what you paid for. Safety is not a priority at this facility (they give you the helmet to put on yourself and expect you to strap it properly) and the stirup did not fit my leg properly (no one checked it) Also, they don’t really know how to assist you if you don’t have experience getting on and off a horse. I would rather pay more and be safe! Horses seemed stressed and hungry especially since my would stop at every bush to eat the flowers. It was a super hot day and the guides didn’t stop to let the horses drink water from a stream in a shady area. Some of us stopped on our own as that didn’t seem right. Not a pleasant experience.

Post Valentines day ride was fantastic. There were four of us; 2 beginners, 1 fair rider and 1 who had never been on or near a horse in her life. The folks at Monte Verde helped her on the horse then were patient and calming when she freaked out. They knew just what to do to ease her into the experience and after a minute she was riding along and enjoying the whole thing like a pro. Can’t say thank you enough. Horses were calm and looked well cared for. I will be going back again.

If you are looking for trail rides for a few people or a group then you have found the right place.
Call Carlos for a group reservation or just come in with a few people and he will set you up.
You do not need experience to ride here. They have modest trail horses that will be mostly walking the entire time or you can request a horse with some giddy up and have some cowboy fun.
My daughter has been riding at this ranch with the Blue Shadows for many years. Your child my want to ride weekly with this team or the California Rangers. Both organizations cater to under 18 year olds.
The Polo Club here is rated number one in the nation for footing.
There is a huge stable here, wood sidewalk in front as well as a stream with a wood bridge straight through the property. Plenty of nice people willing to make your visit special.

I have been coming here 1 – 3 times a year for the past 5 years. This is a nice place if you enjoy horseback riding. There is a multitude of different trails. The guides are nice. On their website it states that the rides are $ 20 per person but when we come (just 2 of us) we are always asked to pay $ 25. Not sure why there is a discrepancy. The horses are nice. TIP, come early in the morning when the horses are not that tired. Makes for a better ride.

This is our First horse back riding experience and I must say we had a great time. We visited on 5÷25÷14. Our guide is very experience and always checking if everyone is okay. In one point of the trail ride my horse name Cheyene decided to run faster than I expected then decided to just rest and not move at all. He seems interested in staying where the bushes are and seems to me he is trying to scratch his belly against the bushes. Our guide instruct me to give him a little kick under so he will move but he don’t want to budge. Therefore our guide has to hook my horse to a rope in order for him to guide and pull us. After about 10minutes my horse get better and we are able to ride on our own again. My family especially the kids had a great time. We definitely will return. Worth your money.

Love this ranch! Its kept up well and is overall a nice facilty. 3 arenas, one medium and two larger ones, a round pen and also a polo arena. The tackrooms are pretty nice and the place is kept clean. Its a great place to keep your horse. Lots of trails too.
Only complaint is that at night, there is no lighting by the back stalls so you have to keep a lamp or use your cellphone so you won’t trip.

Awesome time. Inexpensive, good trail. Friendly staff & beautiful horses. Definitely coming back.

Monte Verde is a great little ranch! My group and I had an excellent experience on our trail ride.
We came on a Sunday morning with a group of 4, some experienced and some beginners. Trail rides are $ 20 per hour per person, cash only. We opted for a 2-​hour ride, and I’m glad we did because those two hours flew by. Our two guides lead us way up into the canyon, which provided some spectacular views of the valley below. When we came down we crossed Osbourne and ended up on a shady trail that winded alongside the river. Most trail rides I’ve been on, the guides just have you walk single file on the trail the whole time, but our guides let us have some fun. About half of the time, we were trotting and cantering. The horses we rode were well broke and sure-​footed. They didn’t try to eat or wander off the trail at all. They started flagging by the end, but it was a hot day and a pretty strenuous trail.
The one scary moment came when my horse had a misstep that caused him to fall sideways and land on my lower leg. I was able to quickly get my feet out of the stirrups and push him off of me, avoiding any injury other than scrapes and bruises. The guides were quick to come to my aid and were sure that the horse and I were both OK before continuing. I was freaked out for a minute or two after the fall, but it ended up being not a big deal at all. Just a reminder that there’s risk involved in horseback riding, but well-​trained horses and guides minimize that risk considerably!
Make sure to wear jeans and boots, and bring your camera, sunscreen, water, a hat and a small pack. Depending on the route you take, there might be very little shade on the trail. And don’t forget to bring extra cash to tip your guides!
