The Evergreen is the newest hot spot in Syracuse. I liked the atmosphere and décor, which was warm and cozy and inviting. The ordering is a little different. There are menus as you come in and you place your order at the kitchen window and then a waitress serves you. I had lunch there with several friends recently. Some of us had the hamburgers, which were outstanding and someone else had the spiedies and said they were good. Brussels sprouts with a dipping sauce were an interesting find on the menu. I have never see them served at restaurants. I will definitely go back!

The beer was delicious! We wanted to sample a few of the more interesting appetizers so we ordered the Brussel sprouts, pork belly, fried pickles, and deviled eggs. The Brussel sprouts could’ve used a little salt but the char, tenderness, and mustard made the dish quite outstanding. The fried pickles were both incredible and disappointing. We ate the individual slices first and they were done perfectly. Very tasty and seasoned batter. But then we were left with large clumps of pickle and batter that fused together during frying. Insides had raw batter and we ending up just picking out the pickles. The clumps made up over half the basket. Pork belly was presented nicely but you could see right away that it wasn’t cooked long enough(layer of fat very visible) and it was quite thick, which was not good considering there was no sauce on the plate to help flavor the insides. Apple slaw was a nice touch. Deviled eggs were quite bland, nothing unique about them other than just being on the menu at all. The beers and the chance to try a few unique appetizers made for a decent experience but we would not be drawn into going back at all.

I have been to Evergreen twice with friends and you can not find a better beer selection. The décor is great and the even when it is packed it is not a loud and rowdy bar. It is great addition to downtown Syracuse and Hanover Square.

Interesting atmosphere. More of a bar than a restaurant. We got the wrong food and the Ruben didn’t have sauerkraut. Could’ve been a good visit if we got the correct food in a timely manner.

Refreshing change for Syracuse. There is nothing better than great food and your pick of unique craft brews. Will go back often! A place that would make anyone local want to go down town.

My husband and I came here for lunch recently and had a very pleasant experience. If not for a few things, it would have been four stars instead of 3. The décor is nice — classy, but comfortable. It has a much nicer feel than the previous place. There is no wait service; you order at a counter or the bar, and for such a small place I think it works well. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. All in all, the atmosphere is great. There is a good beer menu that changes often; all draft beers are listed on a board with the serving size and ABV which is helpful. I thought the beer selection was great. It had something for everyone, and I was happy to see Allagash Tripel on tap. We started with the brussel sprouts small plate. The brussel sprouts were cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. The accompanying sauce is a mustard based sauce. I greatly dislike anything with mustard, but the brussel sprouts were flavorful enough without it. For our main dishes, we got the shrimp po’ boy and the hangar steak sandwich. Both were cooked well and had an excellent balance of flavors. I especially like the creole aoli on the shrimp sandwich, and the breads for both sandwiches were very fresh. However, I found the fries that I got with my sandwich to be overly greasy. Additionally, it was hard to eat out of the wire baskets that the food came in. So, we asked for plates to eat off of instead. I also had to eat my shrimp sandwich with a fork and knife because it was a bit unwieldy. Overall, I like this place a lot but for some reason felt there was something slightly lacking. Maybe I just need a few more visits. Regardless, we will be back for sure.

Really awesome spot here in Syracuse. Very happy they opened up! Classy, rustic, relaxing… very awesome. Great food also! Will definitely be back and bring people here, for sure! I got the salad with butternut squash and walnuts… I put it into a wrapped and unwrapped it and ate it as a salad it was great! The fries were perfect too!

I’ve been here twice since they opened. The first time was on a Friday night after Thanksgiving and it was fairly crowded. I was initially confused by the unconventional ordering/table service setup(note: order food at either the bar or the back window and they will bring it out to you), but once situated I was able to appreciate the wood trim that lines this place. I ordered a burger and my comrades had a risotto and tempeh rueben which they liked. While I remember wishing the burger was seasoned better, it was cooked to a perfect medium-rare(like I asked) and served with french fries, which were unremarkable. I paired it with a Coney Island Mermaid Pils which was on special for $ 3/pint — a deal. My second visit was for lunch on a Thursday and the place was pretty much dead. I opted for the steak sandwich this time, which was more expensive, but much better than the burger and came topped with an egg. I chose roasted winter veg as a side this time, and they(unfortunately) tasted like reheated leftovers. My friend had the Speedie daily special(a great idea!) and roasted brussels — both reportedly great. We also had 8oz Abandon farmhouse IPAs which were good but expensive for the volume. The beer menu is wonderfully diverse but occasionally difficult to follow as some of the 8oz beers don’t even crack 7%. I also paid $ 9 for cocktails for my friends, which also seemed expensive for a beer place. In short, I’ll be back but hesitate to recommend outright because of the value. Service was excellent both times I visited though.

I went here a few times now and I keep coming back. The food is great. I ordered a few things to try and each one stood out on their own. 1. Harvest salad– very fresh, huge portions of steak, and great combo of vegetables. 2. Pork belly– very tender and sweet. What an amazing dish. 3. Spicy chicken wings– wow. Very fresh and crispy. I like their food. It’s delicious, clean, fresh and new. The beer selection is great. I haven’t been disappointed the times I have been here.

First of all, the inside of this place is nice! Super cozy vibe and beautiful wood tap handles. I’ve been here twice so far, and each time the staff was incredibly kind, efficient, and accommodating. Their selection of beers is really great. Definitely one of the best in Syracuse. A lot of my friends and I had some items off the full menu and every one was a hit– especially the tofu sandwich. I can’t wait to spend more time here! Highly recommended as a spot to grab a few drinks and some casual delicious food.

Very Poor experience. Bun on $ 10+ burger was frozen, fries cold. Ketchup dispenser empty. Poor service..

I like the place and really like it for Syracuse! It was nice to have another space to go to that had a good bar, food options, and seating. They are still fully opening and will start their entire menu next week. I had their Malbec wine, which was good, and wings and grilled cheese. The wings are a little fatty, but the sauce was so good — BBQ. The grilled cheese was good and the tomato soup was decent. My friend had the burger and really liked it. I don’t think I would rush back for the food, but will definitely eat there when I go next. I am looking forward to the full menu. The ambiance is really nice. It’s a darker environment, lighting wise, and faces the street where there are lights up for the winter– it’s a pretty view in that sense. The seating is table and chairs, high tables and chairs, bar, and then on the wall there’s a wooden bench — it’s not finished so be careful not to get w splinter! Lastly, the wall has a list of their beer options for that day. I thought it was really cool to see that they change them — they changed on while we were there — and to see the details of the beer. Overall, great place to go and good for groups or meeting up with people.

Tried the place a few days ago. Drank some beers– great selection on tap. Ordered some food — avocado deviled eggs, the pretzel, Brussels sprouts, and the cauliflower buffalo wings. I am typically skeptical of cauliflower anything but these florets were awesome. Caught me by surprise as how good they were.(Note: I’m a full fledged carnivore and try to incorporate a ‘meat’ into any meal but here I am enjoying cauliflower instead of chicken) Healthy and tasty!!! Loved dipping the pretzel in the buffalo wing sauce. And how can you not go wrong with brussel sprouts and deviled eggs? Overall a great hang out spot to grab a bite to eat, drink and catch up with friends. Place is very clean and staff is very friendly. Love the laid back vibe from the place. It’s a step up from the former bull n bear. Definitely am looking forward to their full menu.
