I was super excited to go here Saturday night with my friend in from out of town. We’re from GA so we know what country bars are like. We were so pumped to go to Big Whisky. To say we were disappointed and grossed out in an understatement. As soon as we walked in, we were overwhelmed by the hot and humid air in the entire building. There were no fans or airflow. It was just sweaty, standing air. We had to use the restroom right when we got there — that was a mistake. As we entered the bathroom, one of the two stall overhead lights were out, and the other had no toilet paper. So, while my friend had no toilet paper, I didn’t know what I was sitting on. On top of that, the soap was out. It was unacceptable. The line to the bar was incredibly long. So long that it overflowed into the sitting area of the guests. After deciding to not get a drink and head to the dance floor, we practically slipped on puddles of spilled beer on the floor. Our shoes were getting stuck to the floor and every other step was sticky. I love a good country bar and I enjoy a night out with my friends. This was unacceptable and I will never A) return or B) recommend this to a friend.

Best place to find girls. The beer is great, the girls are purdy, and the bouncers are big. It’s a mixed crowd; cowboys, rockers, hipsters There’s a drink special wheel every hour, it’s like winning the lottery when it spins to the 99¢ PBR drink special.

This place is a pretty good country bar… There’s usually a cover but they have drink specials all night. I’m not sure if they do it every day, but every time I’ve gone, they’ve had a wheel on the wall that people get to spin(like on Price is Right) and you«win» drink specials for the bar every hour. The dance floor is a bit small, the foot traffic/flow gets really congested, and the bar can get really busy but the crowd is pretty friendly, which is a nice change from a lot of the bars in the area, and my friends and I have always had a really good time here(country music listeners or not).

Checked this place out on a Saturday night with a friend. Relaxed vibe, good mix of country and rock music. $ 5 cover(about the max I will pay to get in a place) Typical prices for beer and such. Nothing special. Small dance floor, the place in general was smaller than I thought it would be. Overall I wasn’t wowed but we had fun and will probably go back.

Came here for a friends bday. It looks larger than it is really is. Cramp inside. The bar is literally 5 steps from the front door. And the dance floor is well right next to it. So it didn’t take a huge crowd for it to feel cramp. I don’t have any other country bars to compare so I will say its ok. The spinning drink wheel was fun. I wish they would mix up the music a bit more. Not much dancing going on. Probably the first place I been to that charges a cover but doesn’t have a dress code… Now that I think of it why the heck did I have to pay for a cover… I most likely won’t be back.

0 drinks: Ugh, why is the music so loud in here? I’m screaming. I can’t hear my friend/this douchebag/the bartender. 1 drink: No, I do not want to dance yet. Why is there nowhere to sit? Geezus it is crowded in here, this reminds me of college bars. 2 drinks: Hmm, so many cute boys in casual outfits and hats! 3 drinks: This music is SO fun! Ohh — don’t fall down the awkward stairs to the bathroom. 4 drinks: Oh my I love dancing around this floor. Everyone is respectful of my space; no one is trying to dry hump me. I feel like I’m in the musical Oklahoma. All I’m missing is a long lacy frock and buckle boots. 5 drinks: Whoooo HOOOOO! I need to go to country bars more often.

The«country music» they play here sounds like Aerosmith with an auto-tuned southern accent, and an occasional fiddle solo in between the record scratching and breakbeats. Most of the time, anyway… the rest of the«country music» they play sounds like U2. Get a clue! Get a decent band in there! I have no idea where all the people in Stetsons and boots came from, but that was pretty cool to see in Oly. I think this place has potential, but realistically they probably only have a few months. They probably shouldn’t charge a cover on a weeknight?

I only recently discovered Big Whisky, and I have been twice so far. I’m looking forward to returning this weekend for a friend’s birthday party. It’s a casual, friendly atmosphere with lots of folks in jeans, tees, and cowboy boots. There are plenty of opportunities for line dancing and two-stepping. All the staff have been both friendly and helpful. Haven’t tried many of their drinks, but I would not recommend their margaritas(maybe stick to whiskey). Cover($ 5) for both men and women starts at 8:30pm(seems a bit early). But if you’re looking for a good time at a place that doesn’t take itself too seriously, I would recommend checking out Big Whisky next time you’re in Tacoma.

Eh, I went here last Friday and it was alright. Definitely no where near the feel of many country bars I’ve been to. I mean I get it, it’s Washington… but come on. I was kind of sad about the small size of the dance floor and what country bar is complete without a mechanical bull? COMEON! :( Anyways, the dance floor wasn’t the biggest deal, I’d have to say it was also the crowd. Why go to a country bar if you don’t plan on line dancing?! Most people sat back and if we were lucky one or two people would know the dance to the song that was on. Other than that it was $ 10 at the door I think? I don’t remember. I was buzzing and even I didn’t have the greatest time. Again, another bar with crappy bar tending. There weren’t even that many people yet they had a hard time noticing me waving my money at them. And unfortunately there weren’t many attractive/skinny women there. About the best thing I’ll say about it was that the music was good. They played a good selection and the DJ didn’t suck. Maybe hire some people to go out and help spur people up to line dance and lead it? Maybe. Another cool thing was they had a little spinning drinking thing that they’d spin about every hour to give a special price on certain drinks. Luckily I walked in as PBR was .99¢ :) Maybe it was just an off night for me? I’ll go again and see if anything changes. Until then, my vote stays at 3 stars.
