Broadway Apartments

Please do yourself a favor and avoid the Broadway and Broadmoor apartments. There are plenty of other properties in a comparable price range under management that will not disrespect and exploit you with a one-​sided lease contract.
Check out the Parkside apartments over by Wright Park or look up John Lowry rentals, great price range with more space with the added perk of working with a competent, diligent property management company.
I lived in a Broadway unit for a year and a few months. When viewing the apartment I noticed the water pressure in the kitchen was basically a dribble and was told by the leasing agent that the problem shouldn’t take longer than a couple of weeks to be taken care of. Poor water pressure is a building-​wide problem, along with electrical problems that are products of years and years of ignoring the fundamental upkeep of an older property.
I ended up living with next to no cold water in my kitchen, through my entire tenancy which made washing my hands in the kitchen impossible and gloves were required for washing dishes. The problem was inspected and I was told there would be a follow-​up which didn’t happen for several months and ONLY happened because I took the time to bother the building manager to no end.
There were 4 different leasing agents during my time in the Broadway and I had to continue bringing up the plumbing problem when a new face would appear in the office. I was given discounted utilities to make up for the inconvenience but Metropolitan did not pursue a follow up with a plumber as they were legally obligated to do until another several months had passed. I was eventually told that the problem was going to persist until the plumbing building-​wide was updated. When I struck up a conversation via email with the corporate manager, Sara, she blatantly lied and said they would like to each unit in the building to be «of living standard» but they couldn’t do anything about the plumbing because I had refused to have it fixed. Whoa.
Now I am awaiting the return of my refundable security/​pet deposit. They have nit-​picked to hell and back with their move-​out checklist so I’m expecting to receive next to nothing in return. Please take what I have shared into consideration.

I lived here for three years. During that time, we had six apartment managers. For some periods, there was no apartment manager at all.
The owners forgot to pay the water bill twice, causing the city to cut off water service in the building for all residents. Power went down in the building regularly. I had to call the cops to stop a domestic violence event in the apartment below mine, where a young man was trying to kill his girlfriend. Heroin needles could be found in the bushes next to the building. The carpets in the hallways are worn and stained with urine. The elevator hasn’t worked since the 1960’s and has a warning from the city nailed to the elevator doors. This apparently hasn’t stopped my neighbors from prying these doors open.
