After eating next door my husband and I wanted boba so we stopped by here. Not the best idea. Iy was obvious that their boba has been sitting for a long time because when the lady was trying to add the boba to our drink, she was having a difficult time and had to add water. That was definitely a red flag. The smoothie wasnt great and the boba made it worse. The boba had no texture and was gross.

It’s a small family owned business right next door to a thrift store. The elderly couples who work here are too cute. Inside, there’s a clean public restroom. Some tables and chairs for those that like to dine in. They have many different Vietnamese dish/desserts to choose from. Their banh coun is very good. The sweet fish sauce for dipping is on point. Their banh mi is very original, simply delicious. I rate it 4 star because of the parking and sometimes I have to miss out on their yummy food because I can’t find a place to park.

Hella suspect when you hear the chime of a microwave & the slamming of the microwave door in the back and a few moments later your BBQ pork banh mi sammiches appear ready to go. I’m a bit disappointed in the sliced BBQ pork tho. I liked the taste of the BBQ pork but it seemed dry and chewy. This is where it was probably microwaved. Overall, I want to give this place another try with the House Special banh mi. Might give another stab at the BBQ pork banh mi with their tasty toasted bread and fresh greens! The fresh jalapenos gave it a nice bite and I liked that! The chime of the microwave will probably get a few raised eyebrows but $ 3 Vietnamese sammies! Sold! Mom & Pop run deli shop. Limited street parking. Fresh toasted french bread & fresh greens! $ 3 Vietnamese sammies and the chime of your meat being microwaved…(eyebrows raising…)

I came here because of the reviews and was really happy with the product and the speediness of the service. I will be coming back and trying more than just their house special bahn mi. For 3 $ you get a good traditional(or at least I think so) sandwich. I don’t think I’d ever eat in here, it was 10 degrees warmer inside than out on an already hot day. It’s a little in need of a fresh coat of paint, but it doesn’t seem dirty except for the errant bread crumbs on a few seats. All in all a decent experience.

Great bahn mi sandwich and friendly old lady behind the counter! I got the house sandwich and the bread was warm and fresh and the sandwich had a great balance of veggies and meat. Also got a mango boba smoothie($ 3) and was pretty decent for the price. Boba wasn’t the best, but satisfied my craving. All the smoothies except the avocado one($ 3.50) are made from fruit concentrate or powder though. Will definitely be stopping by again, you can’t go wrong with how cheap everything is!

I love the food here. The house special and BBQ pork sandwiches are really good. I would recommend it to anyone. They also have a lot of choices for Vietnamese desserts. I’ve been coming here for a long time and plan on coming back.

Decided to try their bahn mi sandwich after reading the reviews… I ordered their house special(to go). Pretty good(and it’s only $ 3!). Very much traditional bahn mi. I do wish I asked for extra jalapeños.

Tacoma has several little pockets of areas where it is populated with restaurants from all over the world. It does actually however have an official International District neighborhood. It is comprised mainly of Vietnamese grocery stores and restaurants as well as Mexican. I have known about Vietnamese sandwiches for several months and was eager to try one. So like any good Unilocaler we did a search for our sandwiches and went with the best average in town. We went with Huong Que Deli. First off I need to say is that the place only accepts cash so be sure and have some before you walk in. We got two different sandwiches one was a warm beef sandwich and the the other was turkey I think. The sandwiches were delicious, so wonderfully fresh! Who ever thought that cilantro would go good in a sandwich? The prices are quite inexpensive but you get a quality product. We just got the sandwiches and while they were average size we were getting hungry again so I would suggest getting chips, spring rolls or whatever to go with those sandwiches. I got the Red Bean Boba Tea for my drink. Now normally I make judgments when my Boba Tea flavor comes from a powder and mine was that was made here. However I could not really taste the difference from the powder or the actual ingredients. It tasted good so I had no complaints and there was no grit at the bottom of my glass either. We got something that we think was a dessert in a cup on the counter too. I think it was called Bao Bao. It was a coconut, tapioca pudding with sweet potatoes. We wanted it cold so we took it home and ate it the next day. Yep, that was delicious too! I am soooooo going back!

This is a small deli right next to Vien Duong. The selection is limited but you will get authentic vietnamese sandwiches, sides and dessert. Only problem is it’s cash only and sometimes if you order a certain thing it may not be available. I had their banh cuon($ 3), bbq pork banh mi($ 3) which was both absolutely delicious. $ 3 for a yummy banh mi sandwich beats a phở restaraunt anytime. I’m just glad I don’t have to go all the way to Seattle to fulfill my cravings. I hope that this place will expand their food selection. Give this place a try if you are doing some asian grocery shopping around the corner.

Love this place. As other reviewers have mentioned, please don’t let the exterior/interior sway you… the bahn mi’s are the best around! Super cheap, anywhere from $ 3 to $ 4, they also have some other items, noodle dishes and such, no more then $ 8. This is our friday lunch spot, can’t wait to try more things!

This place is awesome for their banh mi! Like everyone says, it’s so cheap and pretty tasty. However, the service is poor and the people are rude. If you only order banh mi and decide to eat it there, they don’t even have the decency to bring out water for you if you don’t order anything else to drink. After asking for waters, thr girl brouhht them out for us and slightly slammed it down on the table without a word, smile, or anything That has happened to me twice there. The first time it happened, I told myself I would never go back. Then I guess I forgot but once it happened the second time, I was reminded of why I haven’t been there in so long.

The most authentic bahn mi’s in the area. This place is a hole in the wall joint, but the people here are always friendly, and make the best sandwiches in the area. Plus, it’s cheap!

Best avocado smoothie in town! Not too sweet, extra creamy and under $ 4! You can get it with boba too but they don’t put that much. My husband also loves the ground beef stuffed banh cuon(Vietnamese rice sheet). You have to call in advance to place an order. It’s $ 4/lb. They also have che(Vietnamese pudding dessert) It’s $ 1.50 per cup and I like the green one with taro and banana an coconut milk one.

This place is a true gem within the Tacoma area! The outside may be plain and unassuming, yet the food they whip up is well worth the lackluster décor! Upon glancing over the menu, we ended up ordering the bbq pork and shredded pork banh mis. I wanted to try their spring rolls and chicken banh mi as well, but not all the ingredients were ready when we went in… so we settled for the two sandwiches. Both banh mis were very traditional in terms of ingredients. The bbq pork was sweet with a tad bit of salty goodness, combined with all the fresh and pickled vegetables on a crunchy baguette. The shredded pork included everything mentioned above with the exception of having shredded cooked pork instead of the bbq pork. The shredded pork is saltier in taste, yet is just as good. The seasoning sprinkled on top really brings out the flavor of the meat. We also ordered a Vietnamese coffee and a strawberry lemonade. The coffee was alright, not as good as some other places, but it served it’s purpose. The lemonade, to our surprise, was freshly squeezed! It was sweet, tangy, and really hit the spot! The establishment itself is very small. I think they had three tables in there?! It definitely isn’t the place to bring a large group of people unless you get your food to go. However, you could always sit outside along the curb if need be. Despite it’s size, Huong Que packs a powerful punch in terms of flavor and authenticity! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! In fact, you should go. Now! Just be sure to thank me later! ;) **Oh, I forgot to mention that it’s CASHONLY! So be sure to stop by the ATM before you go!

THis place might scare the average gringo but if you are a fan of Banh Mi then don’t let the décor or location scare you. This is a LITTLE joint located across from the Hong Kong Super Market. They seem to have a pretty full Vietnamese Menu but I come here for one thing: Banh Mi(Vietnamese Sandwich). For $ 2.50 they’re Banh Mi’s are really tasty and quite a deal! I’ve had both BBQ Pork & Shredded Pork and would highly recommend both. I’ll have to try more items here and update my review later.

This is a tiny casual café right across the street from Hong Kong Market. They serve banh mi sandwiches(chicken, BBQ pork, Vietnamese salami, cold cut, etc.), appetizers(fresh spring rolls, rice cake with dried shrimp or pork, etc.), some soup and entrees, and drinks. I love this place! Food is always good(my favorite is BBQ pork banh mi, Saigon crêpe and fresh spring rolls), they squeeze lemon behind the cashier for lemonade(so good) and make really rich coffee with condensed milk. And yeah, dessert! They make sesame ball… crunchy outside, chewy inside… instead of read bean paste like Chinese one, they use mashed sweet potatoes(I guess) for stuffing. A must try, if they still have some when you get there. Vietnamese customers always go in and out. Or Mexicans. But I’ve never seen any other folks besides myself and my partner. So please try! I do think they deserve more attention! BTW, CASHONLY. Everything is so cheap like all bahn mi are less than $ 3. I think the most expensive dish was around $ 6.
