The décor is a little fancy and above average than your regular buffet. It has a nice hotel lobby feel when you first walk in because of the little waterfall and the podium with a hostess behind it. They have a grand piano as you walk further in and the tables & chairs looked nice and comfy. I was with my husband and it was one hour before closing. We were seated and I went to get food right away. My husband told the waiter our drink order. I came back with my first plate and the drinks were not there. A minute later, another wait asks us for my drink order and I told him someone already got our drinks. Another minute later, a waitress asks us for our drink order and I told her that a waiter with glasses got our drink order. The waiter with glasses came back finally, but no drinks. He told us it will be our shortly. Another waitress comes out with our drinks finally, about 15 minutes later. My first plate was fruits. The fruits were pretty good until I saw some crusty stuff on my strawberries. I stopped eating it immediately and went up to get another plate of food. For each plate, I only got one piece each of food like one chicken, one meatball etc just to try it out and I didn’t want to waste food if I didn’t like it. I did not like anything on my plate but ate more than half. I went up to get another plate but different food. I got up about 5 times and for each time, I was extremely disappointed with the food. The kani salad had way too much mayonnaise and the strands were extremely long ! I thought I was eating spaghetti. The mac & cheese was dry, the sweet & sour chicken did not have enough flavor, the cauliflower was soggy and cold, the bacon wrapped fish was REALLY salty, the crab legs were also salty, the mashed potato was bland, the corn looked old and it tasted sad. everything was a huge disappointment ! I thought maybe it was just me but my husband was thinking the exact same thing for ALL the food. After 20 minutes of eating, a Korean lady in her late 30s maybe 40 who did not know any English came to our table and said«10 o clock close, pay» with a paper which looked like the check in her hand. I looked at the time, it was only 9:40pm. I looked around, no one was asking the two other tables to pay. My husband did not say anything and just gave her a credit card. I mean come on, can we at least get a check book and some time to eat our food then pay ?? The woman was squatting next to our table waiting for payment the whole time. I found that really rude and she did not even say thank you. As we were finishing up whatever was on our plates, a different waiter/waitress came to our table every MINUTE. asking how we are doing or if we needed anything else. We told them no everything is fine thank you but yet more waiters and waitresses kept coming back to our table. We stopped eating and decided to leave because we were getting a hint that they wanted us to leave. There were still TWO other tables eating. Also, there were so many severs yet they were really slacking with the plate clean up. I honestly would never ever come here again EVER even if the buffet was $ 12 a person. The decoration was nice I suppose but the service and food was just … No.

What a surprise, for a buffet the place is quite good. Very clean, open feeling and you can find a few tasty gems. Food: Brisket– very good, tender and tasty, burnt bark Ribs– chewy and not trimmed, decent flavor Oysters– superb, fresh and yummy Sushi– too much rice in rolls, but good Sashimi– delish Dumplings– shrimp are good Deserts– just ok, chocolate fountain has ok chocolate

My grandparents love to eat, so I always bring them to Bön Fahyr. You might be thinking that old people don’t care about food, but my grandparents definitely want their food to be quality and quantity. And while I consider myself a frugal foodie, I definitely love me some decadent and delicious foods. I digress. Just like an American buffet, they have a lot of variety in their hot dishes; and just like an Asian buffet, they have some awesome cold dishes. But nobody goes to an upscale Asian buffet for the deep fried foods. You go for 3 things: juicy cuts of meat, fresh rolls of sushi; and fresh slices of fruit. My favorites are the salmon sashimi, the beef brisket, and whatever fruit is in season. I love their carving table full of meats, their fresh take on salads, and an udon noodle soup that is quite authentic and addictive. And unlike many other buffets, the place is always clean, and the service is satisfyingly consistent. Even the interior design and overall size of the restaurant, remind me of the great buffets in Las Vegas. And for the money, you can’t beat this place for all-you-can-eat.

The restaurant is beautiful! The place is so big I almost feel like it is impossible for them to fill the place. There could be 100 people there and it would still feel empty. The food is very good, but for some reason I fell like their selection of food is a bit lacking. But for what it is worth the food they serve is on point! They also reduced the price which I think was a good idea because they were a bit too expensive before!

This place is awesome ! Sushi is fresh and place is humongous. Very modern interior design. A lot of selections for sushi and hot food but not wide selection of dessert. They have chocolate fountain but no marshmallows. It’s not like other types of Chinese buffet. They still have some Chinese food though like dumplings. The servers are Koreans and very friendly. They open at 12 pm and it’s best to go there at that time because it gets crowded very fast. Lunch buffet is $ 16.99(tea and coffee included) for weekdays because they are having promotion now and if you come during holiday even though is weekday, they’ll charge you weekend price which is $ 19.99. I saw some different prices on the wall which are higher and when I asked them, they said maybe after the promotion is over, they’ll apply those prices. I gave four stars because the dessert selection is not many but still this place is recommended.

Verdict, for those of you who are looking: This is a better deal during lunch, than dinner, in my opinion. Open on a Thanksgiving, we popped in for dinner for something a bit different. As we were seated, they reminded us of a 90 minute limit, and 3′ and under were free, 4′ and under was ¼ price, 5′ and under was ½ price, the rest of us paid full price as adults($ 27 for dinner on a weekend). Plenty of space and they gave my 3′ little visitor a pass for free(which is good because all she had was fries and chocolate). Multiple stations, and silverware off to the side behind the sushi prep area. Soup station, sushi, raw bar, salad bar, hot bar, BBQ, and dessert areas, formally. Large area with TVs like a bar space as you enter past the waiting room, and then plenty of seating around the self-service area. Drinks are extra(other than water), that includes hot and iced tea for-charge. The good: servers were quick and efficient, cleaning the table and cycling through with hot water for the tea and drink refills. They also suggested the ice cream(located at the steak carving area in the back). Soup and various flavors of Korean seafood soup, tofu soup, some small dimsum dumplings, American food, and wings that were actually pretty good, in my opinion(I’d probably by those by the pound for $ 7.99/lbs). A chocolate tower was a cool addition, take some of the green tea cake and put it in the tower for a sweet treat. Sushi and sashimi were ok but too much rice as is the norm for most sushi at a buffet; raw bar fresh oysters and crab legs(too boiled, no taste of the sea and not salty… butter is also by the back by request from the guy cutting up brisket). The brisket was smoky for those who like it that way, but too burnt around the edges. Mushrooms were half-decent, and the sweet & sour chicken was a strange but useful offset, just like the lo mein — flavorful. For a BBQ place, though, not much in the way of BBQ. For a Korean place, no Korean BBQ ribs? Also, while you have melon and grapes, no bananas for the chocolate tower? What an oversight. Also, surprisingly or not, the mac & cheese was watery, cheese in the salad bar was ice cold and dry, and the kimchi was somehow a forlorn shadow of how it should taste(really, buy a massive bag at HMart down the road and you’d get better). Overall, it’s a buffet — and yes, you can get really stuffed here, and there is the joy of breaking through a bunch of snow crab or sushi. So you are here for quantity, not quality, because they do have a lot of filler.

I saw the place from a Chinese TV station and decided to give it a try. First of all, the food is nothing like buffet food. The sushi and sashimi is super fresh! The raw bar is pretty amazing– oyster and snow crabs! The décor is new and modern, reminding me the dining area of Marriott/Hyatt hotels. What impressed me was how tentative the service was. The service staff wore their smiles at all time and collected plates as soon as you finished them. I will come back again in the very near future, maybe next week!

Ok. I said I wouldn’t come back, but I did… several times. I enjoyed my subsequent visits much more than the previous ones. But here’s the trick: You have to arrive just as they open. I’m sure you buffet vets know this already, but if you come near closing then they food isn’t going to get replaced as often. It’s not right, but I guess that’s just how it is. Anyway, come when the open and you’ll have a better experience.

To be honest, I’m not a buffet kind of gal so you’ll not see me dole out a 5 star for eats of this type. The place is clean(hence star #4), there’s a variety, plenty of parking, they don’t rush you and it’s laid back. What more can you ask for?

Not a bad place for a buffet! The sushi rolls are a bit sloppy and fall apart easily and some of the dishes can be cooked more, but I applaud the salad sections and the churros are AWESOME. Friendly staff too!

First of all, for those of us who are just a bit slower than the rest, it’s pronounced Bön Fire. I sat there and looked at the name for a few minutes in a stupefied food coma before my boyfriend finally enlightened me. That’s the kind of spelling over-reach that only the people who churn out badly mistranslated Chinese to English American DVDs are capable of. Second, I never thought I would find decent sushi in a generic strip plaza just off the highway. The sushi platters are laid out right in front, to minimize the distance you need to waddle before loading your plate. Behind the sushi perimeter lies a salad bar(I saw several dressing-slathered alternatives to the grilled meats) and a small soup station with udon and cold soba. Dessert is those tiny cake squares that come in various colors and names but end up tasting the same. My favorites are the cooked salmon roll and the grilled pineapple. The first time I came here, I looked up from my second plate and saw the couple at the table next to us, heads bent down, mouths chewing steadily through a full plate, not saying much except for the occasional grunt and nod. They powered through the next two plates in the same posture. If anyone wanted to paint a still life titled, «The American Buffet,» they would be the subjects. I’d come back to partake in massive sushi consumption in the ridiculous, ornate-verging-on-gaudy dining space.

Rising from the ashes of the defunct Duke Ocean Grill(which itself rose from the ashes of Food World, if anyone remembers that) is Bön Fahyr, an all you can eat buffet featuring a mix of Eastern and Western food. My family brought me here to celebrate my birthday, and we had the all-you-can eat brunch for $ 17.95, which is decent for a Sunday buffet. When I first heard about Bön Fahyr a few months ago, I had the impression that it was going to be a steakhouse or BBQ joint. So when my mother asked me to have brunch with the family there, I thought to myself, «alright, it’ll be a nice change of pace from all the Korean food in Fort Lee.» You can imagine my surprise when I found out it was a Korean buffet that serves western food. Being a new renovation, the interior is quite attractive. Right off the bat, the East meets West theme is apparent. In the main lobby, you have a wall to your right, you have covered with stacked firewood, while on the left, you have a waterfall and Koi pond. The dining area is also very tastefully decorated and has a nicer ambiance than similar buffets in the area like Hard Wok, Minado and POC. However, in spite of great impression the décor might give you, the dining experience left a bit to be desired. My biggest issue was it seemed like the staff was inadequate for the amount of people in the restaurant. I took quite a bit of effort to flag down a server to have my water refilled, because all of them were so busy. They’re friendly and courteous, but they have they had their hands full at all times. Another problem was I nearly slipped on two different occasions while getting food because someone had spilled some liquid on the floor. While some of the blame can be on messy customers, this is something that needs to be taken care of because no one likes tumbling to the ground covered in a heap of sushi. As for the food, the quality is pretty average, about what I’ve come to expect for buffet places like this(though to their credit, they don’t over-salt their food like some other places). Sushi variety was pretty weak. While the selections spanned an entire table, a bunch of them were just slightly modified California rolls. As far as the fish goes, the quality isn’t anything special, but that’s still par for the course when it comes to these types of buffet places. There was a decent selection of breakfast foods(remember, this was brunch, I can’t comment on dinner selection) as well as salads and meats, but dessert was slim pickings. A few cakes and pastries, and 3 tubs of ice cream(among which none of the flavors were chocolate). Wish they had green tea flavor. One nitpick which may not bother you but bothered me, is that the vessels they use for the soy sauce are those disposable plastic cups. The ice cream«bowls» are the same thing, just larger. It’s weird that they have such a nice interior and things like customized chopsticks wrappers, but in the end you’re pouring your soy sauce/eating ice cream out of a polypropylene cup. Bön Fahyr is a restaurant that has plenty of sizzle, but not enough steak. That is to say, the presentation is nice but no matter how nicely you decorate your restaurant, you still need great food to keep people coming back. Bön Fahyr falls a bit short of this, but there is definitely potential as it’s only been open a few months. I’ll keep an eye on them within the next year to see if they improve.

Quick Overview: Variety: A Food Taste: variable, mostly average for a buffet Cleanliness: A+ Service B+ Price: A Positive(s) + large selection of foods + spacious dining area + reasonable prices + clean + a fun place if you come with a lot of people Negative(s) — minor service flaws(I had to ask for water several times before getting a refill) — food availability depends on when you go to the restaurant(I’ll explain in my review) Let’s get a few things straight, you’re not going to find top-level food at a buffet. I like to think of buffets as a jack of all trades, but a master of none. You go to a buffet for quantity. And yet, you want a balance; you want to get stuffed but with food that is good enough. Bön Fahyr certainly provides a variety of foods from around the world(mostly East Asian, European, and North American). While each type of food isn’t the best I’ve had of its category, it was JUST enough to satisfy a craving. However, there are a few dishes that could definitely use some work. For example, the sweet and sour chicken was dry despite being covered in sauce. A lot of «crab» dishes used imitation crab(imitation crab is actually a guilty pleasure of mine, but the texture just doesn’t work for some dishes). The creamy pasta had a little too much cream, and was served cold which makes the cream feel even thicker in your mouth. This buffet is definitely guilty for putting«fillers» into several of their dishes so that you get full quickly. There are a few notable winners. Like I said before, while it isn’t the best barbecue I’ve had, the BBQ and grill section of the buffet is probably one of the better sections of the restaurant. The brisket had good smoky flavor and fattiness. The sausages also had that smoky pepperiness. The chocolate fountain is reminiscent of those chocolate bunnies you get around Easter time(it’s not the highest quality, but it’s creamy, smooth, and pairs well with the fruits). Overall, I think my biggest disappointment is the availability of food for dinner. I’ve been to many buffets, and the general trend is that the choice, quality stuff is served during dinner, which justifies the higher prices. However, the dishes at dinner still had that«lunch» quality(lots of fillers, little variety in sashimi, etc.). The only difference seems to be the availability of the BBQ/grill/carving station. Is the BBQ good? Yes. Should it be the only thing that makes dinner more expensive than lunch? Probably not. I’ll end this review saying that this place is much like gambling; high risks for high rewards. Looking at several pictures and reviews, it seems like Bön Fayhr can really dish out awesome food. You just have to be lucky enough to be at the right place, at the right time. Maybe Lady Luck wasn’t on my side.

I read Unilocal reviews about this place and was hesitant on checking it out. However, this buffet ended up being surprisingly great! I really don’t know why these other Unilocalers are complaining and putting bad reviews over petty stuff. This is a buffet, not a Michelin rated restaurant! I went for the dinner buffet during a week day and it was only $ 19.99. The décor is nice and the space is great. For the price, the food and quality are excellent. This is the cleanest buffet I’ve ever been to and the ingredients they use is fresh. For a buffet that specializes in sushi, American food, Korean food, and bbq, I was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. The brisket was better than joints that specialize in bbq and sushi was better than most restaurants in the neighborhood. Also they have a chocolate fountain! This is my new favorite buffet in this area. I like it more than Minado and POC. Definitely worth checking out if you’re starving, indecisive and want to pig out without breaking the bank. Also, this place doesn’t use MSG or over salt their food so I didn’t feel bloated the day after :)

I guess other Unilocalers already said it. This is a very mediocre buffet with nice ambiance. It’s clean, but the food is below average for the price. So average that they even lowered the price after being open for only a few months. I would not come back until they improve the food.

First, this place is NOT A BBQ spot. I’m gonna say it’s a Korean style buffet serving«western» food. They have these buffets in Korea and they’re expensive and occupy upper echelons of the restaurant hierarchy unlike here in the US where buffets are considerably humbler in status. That said the food is great for a buffet! Everything is well made and the quality is head and shoulders above other buffets in the NY/NJ area. Offerings are impressive: salad bar, dessert cakes are actually pretty good not air and plastic tasting as they are at the older/cheaper buffets, they have a real milk chocolate fountain with a fruit bar that I really enjoyed. They have a fried food section and dishes, soups, etc. The meat section is the weak point. The ribs were below average. The sushi section is fantastic with above average and diverse rolls but abundance of lean tuna and snapper sashimi as well as nigiri. Salmon nigiri was abundant but wasn’t offered as sashimi. Here’s the kicker, I went there for lunch and it came out to $ 18 a person. Amazing deal for quality of food. Bottom line. This is NOT a BBQ, it a run of the mill Korean buffet serving Korean version of «western» food. It’s the best buffet place in the area. Compares with East Japanese Buffet and POC but better.

This is a solid 3 star place, but has a lot of potential. First, the décor and ambiance is very nice. They spent a great deal of money and effort to make this place look like an upscale buffet place. It reminds me more of the buffets that you will find in casinos than a local buffet place. The seating was a bit tight, especially when some heavy-set people sat to the table in front and behind. The food — some good, some bad. I have a feeling they use quite a bit of MSG in their food because I was absolutely thirsty after I finished my meal. The food didn’t taste excessively salty, so I can only assume it was some MSG or something that made me drink nearly a half gallon of water in the hour after I left the place. They have a BBQ section where a BBQ consultant was supposedly called in and showed them how to smoke meats and cook good BBQ. They really need to get their money back from that guy. The brisket was good on the edges, but it was as if they only smoked the brisket without putting any marinade or seasoning. The inner pieces were absolutely bland. The sausage was just inedible. It reminded me of the blood sausage that you can buy at Korean stores and restaurants — if you’re a fan of those, perhaps you may actually like it. I didn’t, and it was particularly dry. The buffet stations provided so much variety that you probably couldn’t have a taste of everything there without getting full first. The sushi and sashimi were on the higher scale — similar to what you would get at a stand-alone sushi restaurant. They had a raw bar, but I didn’t really care for it. It was similar to what you might find at Chinese buffets with their snow crab legs, oysters, etc. Wasn’t a big selection, but the other things make up for it. There were some blunders though. I took a bite of a dumpling and found it was half frozen inside. They really need to step up their quality control if they want to be successful. Cook the food first would seem to be rule #1. Service was attentive. They were prompt to provide refills on drinks and take away used plates. Overall, this place can easily be one of the best buffets in the area. There aren’t any others that I can really think of, unless you drive a distance to Port of Call in Hackensack or Minado in Little Ferry. Compared to the two aforementioned buffets, I think Bön Fahyr is better. They just need to work on the quality of food(no MSG, cook the dumplings, and better quality control). Hopefully they will work out their issues sooner than later.

The décor is beautiful and spacious, the selection is huge but other than the sushi, the good was subpar. Sushi: great selection and fresh Meat: it was dry, over cooked and salty(they have dry age ovens behind the meat station… USEIT!!) Hot food: cooked fish was tasty, good salad bar, pasta was fine but lacked flavor. Raw Bar: tiny compared to everything else; crabs were overlooked and salty, oysters were good though. Soup: they had Italian wedding soup, chicken noodle, miso, minestrone, udon with noodles(yum) but no creamy chowders! :( Dessert: serve your own ice cream was a good idea with scoopers but definitely got messy. A lot of fresh fruit was delicious and small portioned pastries were great so you could try several at a time. I really want this place to do well so hopefully, they’ll take some of the comments from other Unilocalers. Also $ 32 per person is super affordable!!!

Haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate. As Lenny mentioned, it just opened and of course has to settle in and work out the kinks, but there is a ton of potential here. I went for lunch opening day, and it was packed. I agree that no BBQ at lunch was a bit of a let down, but for $ 15 you are getting tons of food. Go to any sushi restaurant in this area at lunch– you will either have to pick only 1 special roll for $ 15, or 3 regular rolls for $ 11 – 12. Or you go to Bön Fahyr and have a unlimited pieces of all sorts of special rolls, along with great miso soups, noodle soups, 20+ salad/veggie platters, lo mein, rice, 20+ entrée platters, and fresh fruit, all for $ 15. So I really don’t see how you can complain. I was very impressed with the sushi, with chefs making them right on the spot in the center of the buffet area. Ice cream did seem to be 2 years old and rock hard, but I’m sure they can work on getting some new tubs in there. 4 stars, soon to be 5 when they reopen for lunch and iron out their first day jitters! Cheers.
