Exceptional food, Excellent service by Kevin. Very nice Valentines dinner experience. We were very pleased overall and the atmosphere was wonderful.

This restaurant is a good candidate for one of those reality tv make-over shows. The food was awesome(only reason it got more than one star). And the service right up to our main course being delivered was great. However, at that point the service disappeared. And the waiter who delivered our food from the kitchen only brought one steak knife but we both had steak. And since we weren’t seeing a single waiter/waitress we finally shared the knife so the food wouldn’t get cold. No one ever came by to ask if the food was good or if we needed anything. We eventually had a different waiter than our original walk by and we asked for the check as we’d finished eating much earlier. On our way out the door a woman spoke up from a large group in the corner and said something like, «Thanks for coming, we appreciate it.» Apparently the manager or owner had been sitting in the corner talking and drinking with her friends for over an hour while her entire staff played hooky from the floor.

Had a late lunch. Service always extremely slow. Food was ok but I feel overpriced for what I got :-(

Don’t order the stake at this place. More fat than meat and they didn’t respond to our complaint. Really there was about 60% fat and they are not shy about there prices. No wonder this small place was only half full on a Friday night. Spin the wheel and go somewhere else. Gary.

This was our third visit to Currents, and spouse and I were once again impressed with the restaurant’s charming and relaxed atmosphere, delicious cooked-to-order home-style cuisine, and very friendly service. For starters, we shared a scrumptious app of mussels in a parmesan-garlic cream sauce followed by a very fresh house salad dressed with a piquant house dressing. Spouse ordered pork tenderloin which was prepared medium-rare, as ordered and was accompanied by delicious mashed potatoes and vegetables. My entrée, filet of chicken breast was very tender and served with an excellent Hunter’s sauce, accompanied by wild rice and wonderfully braised brussel sprouts. We both enjoyed their refreshing sangria and topped off our dinner with Current’s decadent chocolate bread pudding.

Our server, Will, was very professional and friendly. The food was wonderful. I ordered a side dish of spinach which, unfortunately, was too salty. But everything else was delicious. The martinis are always the best in town. We have been coming to Currents for years and we have to admit sometimes the service is not the best and the lady’s bathrooms are not as clean as they should be… but overall this is the best restaurant in town and the food never disappoints. The presentation of my food was nonexistent. I got the seafood linguine and it only came with 2 shrimp and 2 scallops. Very bland. And it was $ 27. Way overpriced for what I got. Mussels were also just sub-par. Probably could have made the food myself at home. Tacky decorations. And really awkward/phony service. Will most likely not come back. Had a very pretentious atmosphere. Also the women’s toilet was stuffed with a bunch of toilet paper and cardboard(???). Not that it’s their fault, but when I told someone it didn’t really seem to be a concern and he didn’t even look at me as I told him. Not even an apology. It was overall just eh. If you are from out of town looking for a local place to eat, don’t come here. It’s not worth it.

Have frequented this restaurant many times. They have fantastic wine dinners and great, consistent food. The filet mignon is always prepared to perfection. The scallops are amazing! Everything is made to order fresh, not like a chain restaurant. Fresh ingredients make a restaurant. They have achieved that. Nice wine list. Good service. Great little gem!

My husband and I wanted to try a new restaurant that we have not eaten at before. We wanted to stay close by home so we decided to try Currents. I was a little worried when we first walked into the restaurant because it had a very distinct musty smell, kind of like old carpet smell. The restaurant is in the downtown district of Tarpon Springs and is in an older building. We were seated promptly and had a server help us right away. Our food ended up being amazing! My husband got the Grouper Piccata. It was the best fish I have had since moving to Florida. I ordered the Filet Mignon with Gorgonzola Fondue. It was cooked perfectly and the fondue was a wonderful compliment to the meat. Our server was great! It was a very pleasant dining experience. Just wish they could get rid of the musty smell of the restaurant.

I’m a local in Tarpon and have visited this restaurant several times. I loved the past menu and felt a huge disappointment at the new one. They took off my favorite side(jalapeño corn) and the meatloaf. They raised the prices *significantly* but the food to me isn’t reflective of the price change. The food is good, but not great. For these prices, I expect more. The part this restaurant needs to really focus on is in service. From the kitchen to the servers, there’s a lack of speed. If the restaurant wants to make money, they could do it easier with food getting prepared faster. Perhaps creating a menu more suited to the kitchen? I’ve never seen it but it’s like they literally make one dish at a time. It can take over 45 minutes to get your food. Servers seem to disappear instead of visiting the tables for refills(I would avoid my tables too if my customers food was taking epic time to prepare). If you’re in a hurry, you’d avoid the restaurant because of this. It’s hard to enjoy your rather expensive meal when you have to go by the time it arrives. Additionally, It doesn’t matter how many people are in the place. We’ve literally been the ONLY table at lunch and it was a forever wait. If the timing wasn’t an issue, I’d give them 4 stars. But it’s never been fixed in the 4 years I’ve gone here.

Small. Local. Good. This is the sort of restaurant that probably doesn’t get as much business as it should, but those that go appreciate what the owners are trying to do. I had the lentil soup(earthy, perfect consistency), wedge, and the bread pudding. All of it was satisfying. I’d go back.

If negative stars were an option, this establishment would get several negative stars. I stood at the front of this restaurant for 10 without being spoke to or greeted by any member of the staff. While I understand that almost every establishment in tarpon closes at 9, if you are a restaurant that closes at 10 you need to be ready and willing to accept any and all customers up until your time of close. By allowing new customers to stand at the front of the restaurant for 10 minutes you not only fail to service new customers, you fail to provide excellent customer service to all existing customers as management would like to be provided. I also blame the people of Unilocal for misguiding us out of towners. I hold each an every reviewer of this restaurant as responsible as the owner of this establishment. Shame on all of you.

The only thing worse than crappy service is NO service and since you can’t give a restaurant zero stars, I was forced to give one. We were visiting from out of town and wanted a good local dinner. While the restaurant it self was very cute and romantic the service was literally nonexistent. We stood at the host stand for over 10 minutes and never saw a single employee. Not one. The bartender was no where to be found and the servers were audible in the kitchen but at no point came into the restaurant. A customer who was also waiting for service informed us to just sit down because that was the only way we were going to get a table. After waiting and literally walking through the entire restaurant I called twice– keep in mind I was literally standing at the bar while doing so. We ended up leaving without ever seeing a single employee, much less receiving any service. As my boyfriend was walking out an employee finally answered the phone– to inform me «Ya, well we are closing in about an hour.»

Came here because Rusty Bellies was packed so we needed another place close by. Overall food was alright. Had better crab cakes at Crabby Bill’s. No flavors that was outstanding for me to come back. Usage of the demi glaze sauce on too many of our dishes(entrée and dessert). They did however make a great Cherry coke.

Current’s has been around for awhile, in a location where many restaurants have tried and failed previously. Having said this it had been on the bookmark list for some time before my father suggested it as an option for his birthday dinner. The reservations were made through OpenTable and the restaurant confirmed via phone. We arrived to a later dinner(8:30pm) and were seated immediately. Service was slow considering the lack of crowd on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was very warm. We pushed on despite the wait ordering entrees immediately for fear of a non returning server if we ordered appetizers. I have to precursor that my Father absolutely loves short rib and the primary reason we ended up at Currents was this option. To his fault he envisioned it in the manner of Dunedin’s Black Pearl and was extremely disappointed at it’s almost un-chewable apparition from the Current’s kitchen. My mother ordered the lobster which was also overcooked and disappointing. I have several dietary restrictions/allergies, usually it is not a problem at a restaurant that prepares food fresh, that night it presented as a piece of salmon sans any sauce. Everything else was so lack luster, I felt so bad I picked up the entire check and promised to review the restaurant accordingly(my family knows how this works.) I’m not sure if it was just an off night, but we definitely will not be back again. I much rather a trip to the Black Pearl in Dunedin or Massimo’s in Palm Harbor for a real local fine dining experience.

Food and service always been excellent there, they have a full bar, have not had a bad meal there yet, if you’re in Tarpon Springs it’s a good place to go and they except reservations which is very nice.

We weren’t aware you needed reservations when we arrived at 8:10 on Tuesday, but that was ok, the Hostess asked us to wait until a table opened up. We waited about 10 minutes and then were seated. Our table was at the back, which allowed us to look at the artwork on the walls, and look at the whole place. Over all, it’s a lovely little place, a bit small, but the bar is really impressive. The service wasn’t hurried, Caleb, our Waiter, was attentive without hovering. Our water glasses never went dry. The FOOD! Lordy! The food was absolutely divine. We started with the brie with pesto. This was amazing. Our entrees were the Seared Salmon with Spinach and a basalmic glaze, and the Angus NY Strip, both were cooked to perfection. The sides that came with each were perfectly seasoned and made out taste buds sing. Lately, since we’re both on a restricted diet, we wouldn’t order dessert, but tonight, I just had to try the flourless chocolate cake. I’m so glad we did! This was a little bit of heaven on a plate. Rich and thick, and served with a raspberry sauce… It was simply too much at the moment, so more than half came home with us. I would recommend this place to anyone in the Tarpon area. Especially anyone looking for a nice little place to go on Date Night!

If you thought Tarpon Springs was just about flaming cheese, sponges and sea shell shops, well think again. We went to Currents tonight for Creative Loafing Tampa’s Restaurant Week 2013. Basically, for one week a bunch of restaurants in the Tampa Bay area offer up a $ 25 Prix Fixe(don’t even ask me how to pronounce that) menu. Currents is one of the participating restaurants this year. This place gave off a fancy vibe without making me feel like I should be wearing a monocle and top hat. It was classy yet comfortable. I like it. Our server, Staci, was on point. She knew the menu, was friendly and attentive. I can’t say enough good things about her. Awesome. The beer options were for the most part the usual suspects. They did have Stella though, so I went with it. I would have liked to have seen some local Tarpon beers offered, or at least a few craft options. They did have a decent wine and martini list, if that’s your thing. The food was great. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like. The mashed potatoes that came with the pork tenderloin were tubular. Tubular… because they’re tubers… and they were awesome. Get it?! Nevermind… let’s just move on. I have to give props to the jalapeño goat cheese cream corn as well. Don’t let the name scare you. It’s not spicy, but it is delicious. Nice job. I can’t believe I haven’t been here before, and I can’t wait to come back. Though, I guess that’s part of the point of CLT-RW, to get people to try places they haven’t been. So get out there and try a new restaurant!
