Pet Food Express

I love everyone here. And it’s a lot more than their products or customer service. It’s their hearts.
I came here because my 16 year old pitbull, Amber, needed a nice, warm wash (she loves water). With her age, I didn’t want to wash her with cold hose water, so drove her over to Pet Food Express. Unfortunately, her active Cushings Disease had been a disaster on her skin, and she had some open wounds. As I was washing her, a wound in her neck opened, and employees noticed. I was mortified. Here I was — without any money left for her medication or vet expenses, and confident that the employees would think I was a bad owner.
They didn’t scold me. They didn’t judge me. Instead, they gifted me a pet first aid kit and helped me patch up Amber’s wounds. I started to cry — partly because I knew this was the last time I was bathing Amber, but partly because I wasn’t used to so much kindness. They gave me a group hug (literally) and got my mind off things by talking about our love for pitbulls. They went above and beyond their call of duty, and I will be forever grateful.
Amber passed away two weeks ago, and it’s been hard without her, but it warms my heart to know that places like Pet Food Express exist.
Truly, thank you, Pet Food Express. I am forever grateful.

My boyfriend and I went to this location yesterday to weight our kittens. The employee Samantha was super amazingly sweetshe is super genuine you could totally tell that she loves pets when you think customer service Samantha is definitely great definitely will be returning

Darren and jaun were awesome! They were both so helpful and took time with my questions and they are animal lovers Wich helps because you can tell they work from there heart!

First time washing my dog at a dog wash (I’m new to owning a dog/​rescue). Tanya helped me get my dog up to the wash and actually helped me wash him. She gave me plenty of advice too. They supply a collar to wash your pet, shampoo & towels to dry. All you need to bring is a brush. Great customer service-​Thanks Tanya

My boyfriend and I just moved to Tarzana and were trying to find a place that carried our dog’s brand of food. Luckily this place does! Not only is the staff super friendly they are also knowledgeable and attentive.
Pet Food Express price matches and beats it by $ 1 which was great because I would buy my dog’s food for $ 10 cheaper than what they sell it for here.
What we also liked is there is a self wash station and they have everything from smocks to towels, etc. Jasmin was super helpful with shampoos and conditioners since my Malinois has super sensitive skin and has allergies.
This place also has great natural treats like pig snouts, bone marrow; I believe in raw diets for dogs so I never give my dog raw hide, instead she eats bones straight from the butcher so it’s nice that I can just come here and make one stop.
Darron, who is the manager, is so friendly you would think he was the owner. And Diego was really helpful when it came to explaining the washing station.
I’m happy to have found a new go-​to dog spot in my new neighborhood with such amazing staff!

I’d like to give a shout out to Darren and the whole staff for their outstanding customer service and excellent selection of food, toys, and all manner of pet accessories. They also have a terrific coin — op self-​service dog wash set up. They provide the towels and aprons and then clean up all the fur that collects in the drain. So much easier than doing it at home! We adopted a puppy from a shelter that was having an event there about 2 years ago and every time we go in, the staff there always remember her and make a fuss. They are so sweet.

This is the best pet store in the Valley –not only because of the great selection of food, accessories and other products, but because of its attentive, knowledgeable and caring staff. My very shy rescued greyhound «Jasper» has gained confidence with each of our visits, bonding with staffers Tanya and Darren — who are so kind and patient with him, showering him with affection and goodies and treating him like a rock star! I also love the self wash grooming area — it’s always immaculate and helps me to keep Jasper squeaky clean.

Excellent customer service and loved using their self wash area. Great place to wash your dog and get all their necessities after. Plus, you can bribe your dog with the treats you buy!

Manager is a nark. He only gives lip service in exchange for any good will. I forgot my wallet at work and instead of being accomodating to the fact that i know my credit csrd information by heart and that I’ve been a loyal customer in the past, they only extorted me for more personal information and wasted my time. this shit hole is easily replaceable by amazon. basic bitch doesnt even have a wide variety of products but they have a myriad of useless suggestions for your inmediate issues.

Pet Food Express is superior to any other pet supply store that I have used in the past. The staff is knowledgeable, professional, and always provides exceptional customer service. They have a huge variety of pet foods and supplies plus they have a pet bath where you wash your own pet. If they don’t stock something you want they will order it and it comes timely. The manager, Darren as well as the staff, Jeff, Devin, Jasmin, Eli, and Juan all are animal lovers and always include your pet in the store experience with attention and treats. My dog was never comfortable in other pet stores but at Pet Food Express he is always given such a warm friendly welcome and he loves this place. Everyone is so helpful! Give this store a try you will be glad you did.

Had such a great experience here on my first visit!
I just came to look around and see what the place was about and everyone there was super friendly and helpful. I ended up trying out some new dog food for my pups on the recommendation of one of the guys there telling me all about the ingredients and what was good for my older dogs. This place has a wonderful, positive vibe and the staff is so sweet and helpful! Love this place and will definitely be visiting again soon! :)

I agree, the staff is friendly but they are clueless when it comes to pet nutrition. I asked (a female employee) why they do not sell Solid Gold or Ideal Balance. Her response was pure amusement — «Maybe it has corn in it.» Neither dog food has corn in it. Besides WHOLE GRAIN corn is actually beneficial for dogs. When I asked why they sell two foods made by Diamond (which is plagued with incessant recalls and other bad news) she could only shrug her shoulders and suggest I contact the owners who live in Oakland. Hey, at least they don’t sell Purina putrescence or Pedigree garbage.
Next I washed my dog. Their system is TIMED and on the token system — like when you take your car to a DIY car wash. This means the suds, rinse and dryer are all on the same timed cycle. What if time runs out? We have to pay for another session just to dry our animal? I felt like I needed to rush. Oh, the anxiety of it all. There are no tools provided like most pet wash places. They give you the token, a towel and an apron. The dryer is low-​flow COLD air and should be higher power and warm — especially on a cold day. You’d be better off going to an «Unleashed» store. Their DIY pet wash is set up correctly.
After the pet wash, I looked around at their stock and their prices are just a little inflated — probably because it’s Tarzana. If you have disposable income, this is your place. Everyone else should stick to larger pet stores with a greater variety, better DIY pet washing systems and more knowledgeable staff when it comes to pet nutrition.
UPDATE: Since I wrote this review, the owner contacted me and we had a very pleasant phone conversation. I was impressed that he took the time to reach out.

Terrible self-​service dog wash set up; the worst! Coin operated and timed system (even, and including the blow dryer). Shampoo is integrated in the water so you can’t develop any suds — no conditioner at all. No comb or brush. The blow dryer has no temp/​velocity control and doesn’t blow enough velocity. Generally effective a knotting hair for long haired dogs. A small Cavalier never got completely dry. Really bad and not worth the money; most any other is better. Great example of how not to set up a self-​service dog wash.

I’ve only ever been to one Pet Food Express location (Pasadena) and they have provided exceptional customer service from the very first step through their door.
I paid a visit to this location because I needed something and wasn’t near the Pasadena location. Our kitty only uses a certain organic litter which I can’t seem to find at most pet stores so I stopped in here to pick up a bag.
I also needed a new brush for her and they suggested a brush that really works wonders on her coat.
Plenty of parking in the private lot in front of the building. I’d definitely recommend Pet Food Express for your pets needs.

I got the honor of balloon twisting for this store’s weekly Fun Saturday’s where they have face painting, balloons, popcorn & snacks, & the opportunity to adopt cats & dogs. I love how this store builds community, their self-​wash services for dogs, & no by-​products. Really cool!

Went in to buy my English bulldog dog food. Was greeted by a super awesome guy named mordechai. He was extremely knowledgable in all the ingredients and helped me find the perfect dog food! Gave me some great tips on potty training and eye drops as well! I will happily come back to buy everything I need for my puppy! I gotta say, the prices are pretty fair too and it’s very clean as well! The lady/​cashier was also very nice. I was given some free treats/​samples for my dog as well which he loved! A great place overall!

This place is amazing! What makes it amazing… the employees. Each and every one is unbelievably nice, helpful, patient, attentive, you get the idea. When I first bought dog food from Pet Food Express, the associate told me that if my dog doesn’t like the food, I could return it and get a different bag. Well, turns out my puppy is a very finicky eater and I have returned so many bags of food in an effort to find the one he likes (Side note: haven’t found one yet, but that’s another conversation.) Each time I return the bag, I am met with understanding and a genuine desire to help us find the food that is right for my dog. Whoever is working then will patiently explain each and every dog food, its ingredients, where it is manufactured, nutritional content, etc… They are very knowledgeable.
Love: They LOVE my dog. I usually bring the dog with me because the moment we walk through the doors, he is showered with love and attention from the associates. They remember his name (and my name too!), and give him lots of treats (they always ask me if it’s ok before they treat him.) We feel like we’re part of the family when we go here.
Bath time: They have a great self-​service bath area though I’m not sure why they call it self-​service because they are so helpful during the bath process. The tubs are large and convenient with several different kinds of shampoo, aprons & towels are provided, and an associate helps throughout the whole process even giving my dog treats throughout.
Samples: They are very generous with samples. Smart business strategy for them while making the customer happy.
PETCO NO MORE! This is definitely my new go-​to pet store.
