Decided to give the local Mom & Pop Café at try. How sad and pathetic this place was… the service and food usually make us for the dirty unattractive ancient décor… but not this time. Service was terrible. The waitresses/staff have ZERO personality. They stand around and filling salt shakers or butter dishes while your coffee runs cold and dry. I saw 4 – 5 staff and 4 – 5 tables… no one was getting service. One table just stared at the kitchen for 15 minutes until the food was ready. Food was overprices for what you get. Huevos Rancheros was placed on two greasy tortilla. Don’t forget to ask for«butter on the side» with your toast… or it will be in the same condition as the tortilla I just described. Should have tried the The Red House BBQ. They get much better reviews

I’m mixed about this place. I’ll try again. The food was pretty good. Eggs cooked well done how I like nothing worse then a scrambled runny egg. So this place was good. I felt though that the customer service was really only geared towards regulars. We sat ourselves and weren’t greeted. And I had to ask for silverware when she brought us our food and asked if we needed anything else. she did seem embarrassed by it. So once the food came it was made well and came pretty quick. His patty melt was cooked very good and he loved the potato salad. I tried it it was very tasty. So I shall try again. Maybe we need to be regulars here? To get greeted right away? Coulda been an off day. But the food will make me come back again to try this place put for a second time.

Was going in for some bfast and saw they had fried chicken. I’ve had roscoes chicken n waffles, which was good 15 years ago, Popeyes is pretty good but the best… Aunt kizzys back porch in marina del Rey. Kelcys is rated pretty high up there… dang good stuff. The biscuits n gravy, really good too.

Wish this place still had the reputation as the old days when this was the place to go for a quality breakfast. I’m not one to jump on and write a negative review but my last 3 or 4 experiences don’t even rate 1 star. I don’t know what’s worse: the food or service. The food is cold and bland lacking anything that could be mistaken as flavor. The service is just as bad – coffee ran out often, and was cold when actually refilled. Don’t waste your time or money.

Had a late start saturday to go to Fossil Falls about 30 miles south of Lone Pine. My wife hardly comes with me, this time she decides to go. I’m hungry, my wife tells me as we are close to Tehachapi. The bakery was her choice, after eyeing those signs near the freeway exit. We look for the bakery and end up driving to town. Didn’t find it, saw Kelcy’s Café — let’s eat here. The moment we walk in, the front room reminded me decades ago décor and feeling. An old refrigerator on the east wall, the west wall full of photos of experimental planes. How about the food? Wifey ordered an omelet with some kind of pepper and hash browns. She liked it. I got a chicken fried steak with 3 scrambled eggs and hash browns. The chicken friend steak was a bit bland, I’ve had better ones at truck stops(and possibly not healthy!). The only factor that prevents me from giving this a 4 star — food was a bit pricey. Our meal for 2 with 1 soda, the above and biscuits and gravy totaled $ 27+ excluding tip. We filled our stomachs and went on our way.

Wow. We finally landed at this café after looking at the menus of a few restaurants on the same street. Same price points as everyone else, so we decided to stop looking and eat. The table was sticky, the high chair they brought me for my two year old son was disgusting. When I asked for the high chain to be cleaned, they handed me a wet rag. Completely ignored the kids menu and decided to share our food with my youngest because there is no way I’m paying $ 5 for a peanut butter sandwich. Price difference between a burger and a burger deluxe? Almost $ 3. Difference between a burger and a deluxe? The deluxe comes with a dozen or so fries instead of a small bag of potato chips. Bought a burger(that’s the one with the chips), a burger deluxe(fries), and a double burger(same as deluxe, but two patties). Not big burgers. Frozen patties. Limp lettuce, a tomato slice, and a few slices of pickle on the plate. THIRTYBUCKS!!! Really wish I had known there was a Denny’s about a mile and a half away. Gross.

If you want café food and don’t want to go to a chain like Dennys, this is the place for you. As soon as you walk in, it’s like going back in time to an old fashion diner. They also have a bigger room attached that provides seating for bigger groups. The waitresses were friendly enough when we entered. Once we were seated, our waitress was very nice and attentive. Again, their menu was what you would expect from a café: breakfast, sandwiches, hamburgers, and light dinner plates(since we came in around 2pm). I had the beef steak with green beans and mashed potatoes. I also had a salad. The salad was simple and fresh; just perfect enough before the entrée. The entrée was a good size. The beef steak was thick and a good size, gravy had a good flavor, and the green beans were good. The onions were done just perfect. The décor is full of town history and railroad stuff. My son loved all the railroad stuff. Overall, good hometown food.

Genuine Country café, the young waitress is very sweet and attentive. Food is just like Grandma would have made for you if you come visit. No thing more, nothing less. I will come back every time I ever be in the area. My tri tip lunch special is juicy and tender, could have have ask for anything better.

Small town diner. Loved that it’s actually an official old school dining spot. The dining booths are so retro! Breakfast was really good. Service was genuinely humble.

This place is disgusting. Carpets have stains upon stains and it smells of mildew. Nothing is fresh and everything looks questionable. This place is a sad misfortune since the outside definitely draws a crowd but inside is a terrible disappointment on all fronts.

I don’t recommend for the price and the food you get. My son had scrambled eggs and French toast and hated it. There was something either wrong with the syrup or the batter for the French toast because it had a funky taste. The sandwiches had very little meat on it for the price of $ 9. If that wasn’t bad enough the kid behind the counter was playing with his bandaid he just took off his sore. Ugh

I’m a 65+ rancher from the mountains nearby Tehachapi and have been going to Kelcy’s for years. I have never been mistreated there or had anything to complain about with their food. I don’t know who all you yahoo’s are that are giving them a bad review, but maybe you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and not used to good, old fashioned, down-to-earth food and service. Buck up, besides, you don’t have to come back — and that will leave more room for my bride of 38 years and myself to enjoy great service and very good, wholesome food!

Horrible service from the moment we walked in. We were ignored then told to seat our selves after five minutes. We sat down our order was taken along with drinks. Our server was friendly but not very attentive. Our food took over an hour to come out from the time we ordered. We were just getting ready to walk out when our server brought us refills, then informed us our order will be out less then five minutes so we stayed. We honestly just had frozen food warmed up. Never again! I do not recommend this place at all. Stay away.

Kelcy’s has been sort of an iconic restaurant here in Tehachapi for years, and mainly for that reason, they are still around. Their food is not«bad», far from it. But its not something you couldn’t make at home. My husband had biscuits and gravy and I had french toast. The gravy had flavor, not too peppery and not too bland. My husband did not care for the biscuits, saying they were too thick and not fluffy. The french toast was good, but like I said, not something I couldn’t make at home. The staff were friendly, but I did notice that they paid FAR more attention to their«regulars» than they did us, being our second time there. The wait time for our food was, in a word, obnoxious; almost an hour. We were one of only three parties there at the time. I don’t believe I will be going back unless I’m really hungry and its right there.

They advertise home made pie. I’m sorry, dumping gooey canned cherry filling into a pie crust doesn’t equal a home made pie. I love diners, but the décor is so dreary. The place seems like it needs a good scrubbing. Dirty. You’re better off enjoying the cool sign from outside.

What a wonderful place. I have been a happy customer of Kelcy’s since I first came to the area in 1975. Good home style cooking is the rule here, and plenty of it, makes for a great eating experience. There is an okay view of the trains right across the street, so rail fans will enjoy an early breakfast here. The service was also quite good, I just wished that Tehachapi was not two hours from home.

Walking into Kelcy’s Restaurant completely transports you back in time, and while the booths do look like they need a little updating, the overall décor yields a homey sense of family and history. With both a diner and family restaurant vibe, I wasn’t sure what I should be ordering. I went with the reuben with potato salad, and a strawberry milkshake. Service was very nice, though their system perhaps a little flawed, as the waitress was both waiting all tables and making my milkshake(which thus took a little time to make). The reuben was served piping hot, with nice grill marks on the bread. Together with the kraut, it was a decent sandwich. The potato salad was pretty bland, to be honest– not entirely sure if this was homemade or store bought. The milkshake was a nice highlight– perfect consistency, great strawberry flavor, and whole strawberry chunks. It was a huge portion I couldn’t finish. Kelcy’s is a good place to get some lunch. Make sure you order a milkshake!

This place is decorated with small town memorabilia, like pictures of an old bridge and subsequent pictures of that bridge damaged in a flood in 1932. There are cool wooden radios above their toaster. The toaster they use is the same model of one I sold for $ 1 in a garage sale. I order ‘burger and eggs’ and it was just a slice of burger(unfrozen) and two eggs, with some hash browns(probably unfrozen, too). The burger was really well-done, and was kinda terrible. My dad’s steak wasn’t medium well; it was sort of burnt but edible. Their kitchen is something I’d expect at a summer camp for kids. Oh, I can buy 60 eggs at Vons for the $ 8 I paid for this meal. My dad’s burnt steak and eggs was $ 12. When you’re travelling and hungry, it’s hard to be picky. Just don’t pick this place.

Long cold bike trips need Huevos Rancheros to keep the trip in motion. it’s written somewhere… not sure where but it is, ok. This is a great local greasy spoon place to grab some food. Definitely worth checking out
