One of the best parts of travelling is stumbling into unexpected pleasures, such as a very good restaurant. This was the case for us recently as we were returning home from Arizona via California Highway 58 through the Tehachapis. With some time to spare for a meal, we ventured off Hwy 58 and drove into the town center to find some eats. We came upon three independent restaurants, one of which was The Shed. Based on the near-full parking lot, we surmised the food most be pretty good. After quickly being seated on a busy Presidents Day lunch hour, we quickly scanned the menu and narrowed our choice. We decided to share two plates — a hamburger and a club sandwich. Both were really very good. The club was enormous, and more importantly really tasty. The best feature of this sandwich was the turkey. It was obviously a turkey roasted in their own kitchen and it really had a great taste. Our burger, which was for a flat price, offered a variety of additions. For ours, we added Swiss cheese, bacon and an Ortega chili served on a brioche-style bun. The burger was exceptionally good. The meat was obvious fresh and at a half pound, more than we could enjoy at one sitting. Interestingly, the french fries, which were obviously institutional, were nevertheless perfectly cooked and very satisfying. We also had a cup of chicken soup as one of the sides and it too was very good. Our server, JQ, who was obviously quite busy serving several tables, was nonetheless attentive and very friendly. Our only knock was that the ticket time was not as quick as we would have liked, but being a professional, JQ kept us informed and tacitly acknowledged the longer than expected wait. This brings up an important point that many restaurants and servers fail to recognize. If you keep your customers informed and are pleasant that 10 extra minute wait passes quickly. If they do not acknowledge the delay, that extra 10 minutes can seem like an hour. When all was said and done, we had a great meal and a large portion of our burger to enjoy when we arrived home several hours later. If the opportunity arises, the next time we pass though Tehechapi, we will stop in again.

So We Are Back. This Time I Got My PotPie. Yummmooo. It was delicious, like nothing i’ve ever tasted befor. I also had a bowl of potato bacon soup. I have no commplaints about this place except that its 120 miles away from me. But its always worth the drive. Cant wait till our next road trip.

Definite pride in ownership with the new owners. We had a bubbly and attentive waitress. The lunch was superb! So glad we ordered the turkey sandwich. It was seriously the most enjoyable sandwich I have ever had! They used generous amounts of REAL roasted turkey. It was piled high with loads of fresh green avocado, high quality smoked bacon, and multiple slices of Grannie Smith apples on a Ciabatta roll. I could barely get my mouth around it and only ate one half. Taking the other half on the road. It was to die for! On a whim, I chose cottage cheese as my side dish. After tasting it, I asked the waitress if it was made fresh onsite and was surprised to find out that it wasn’t. It is homemade delivered fresh daily however, and that was evident. The cottage cheese was refreshingly fluffy, light weight and creamy, devoid of a high content of salt, that most store bought brands and restaurants serve. I would describe it as tasting as thought it was taken right from a cow across the street. Wish I could have it shipped home on a weekly basis. Coming back for sure! Loved it. Yumalicious!

What a great breakfast! I had the breakfast BLT and it was delicious! Service was exceptional, and the food came out fast and tasty! A great atmosphere to bring plenty of friends and family, lots of seating and some TVs to watch the game! A great place to enjoy some great food, two thumbs up!

I remember coming here before Unilocal was really a thing. Back then it was called«The Apple Shed» and it had all sorts of crafts and nicknacks that you could buy. I returned for a visit and the nicknacks were gone but the rustic mom and pop vibe remained. The rafter type ceiling and small train that runs through the beams are pretty neat. At the front counter you can purchase fresh made pastries. It did take a moment to be seated in the beginning but our server gave us a 10% off discount that we didn’t even ask for. What a sweetheart! The food is delicious and everything is homemade. I wanted to try the pot pie but it wasn’t quite ready so I got the soup. The choices for Thursday were(clam chowder, chicken noodle, potato bacon cheese). I selected the clam chowder and it was hot and delicious. The shed is just a great cozy place to enjoy while in Tehachapi. Everyone is friendly and they say hello. The city locals even go out of their way to suggest the best spots to visit. I recommend it and the BBQ place they own as well called«Red House».

We frequent the shed about once a month. Food is always great. The rolls are amazing and always hot, the beans are a new thing but they’re good. The prime rib is delicious, and make sure you get a baked potato before they run out!!! They’re delicious! Breakfast is great too! The breakfast burrito is huge and yummy! Eggs Benedict is bomb. Service wasn’t that good the first few times we were there but Mano stepped up and made sure things got taken care of! Definitely a good place to go and the restaurant is family friendly!

Only place in town(that I am aware of) that has a salad bar and a soup bar too. Also home made pot pies. Plus their cinnamon rolls with the cream cheese icing is 5 star material!!!

been here a few times all good food, service can be spotty, I recommend lunch time — in the evening they put the lids on the 40+ item salad bar so making a salad is a lot like the kid game memory. I would go back but just at lunch they had good meatloaf and burgers

Food is always excellent! The one star deduction is for the prices and service. I think the prices are a little high and the service is not always great. It sometimes takes a long time to get refills. A couple of times we have been in, we never even got one refill. However, besides that, the food is delicious and the portion sizes are always big.

Service was good — food was good but very limited selection due to time restrictions and a small menu. If the owner/manager would get rid of the time restrictions this would be a top restaurant in Tehachapi.

Yumm Yumm Yumm! My brother and I are back in town from Alhambra CA. Last time we were here we noticed The Apple Shed. So this time we decided to give it a try but we were 2 months to late. Now its just The Shed. But no disappointment. It smelled amazing as we walked in and all those delicious pies and goodies that they have displayed up in front at the bakery, we knew we couldn’t go wrong here. To make a long but happy story short, our waitress Mrs. Mia was awesome. She must really enjoy her job. She was fast and great at making sure our cups were filled at all times. Thank you for your kind and generous hospitality. You deserve a raise and much more. Im dying to try a pot pie. We will be back for sure. ~v~

Great food. Cute ambiance. Super slow service. Sat down then 10 minutes till our drink order was taken another 5 minutes till we got our drinks then I went up to get my order taken and another 15 till we got our food. Mom had to leave before food got here… had it packed up. Nice ambiance so if you have time for a relaxing meal definitely come here. They also have a nice micro beer menu(12 beers)

Good food just like mom would make ! Very pleased with the food and atmosphere here. Throughly enjoyed the folk music while enjoying n breakfast from here. Enjoying the changes. While we are I saw people going to the soup bar three to four times, makes me want to try lunch next time. I’m sure I’ll be satisfied again. I will be back. One happy loyal customer.

Oh my god i can’t tell you enough wonderful things about this place. We went for breakfast and had a wonderful day. We drove up from Lancaster and started our day here with manos restaurants and ended them.(The shed and red house he owns both) Both were excellent!!! Anyways back to the food. I got the spam and eggs and he got the bacon and eggs and both were cooked so so well !!!(we hate runny watery scrambled eggs) But the shed was so spot on. Now to service– again 5 stars it moved like a well oiled machine and the waitress we had was so friendly, funny and nice. Then to the tunes ! Craig shaw played wonderful folk music while we ate. It wasn’t super loud it was perfect to still hold a convo with the hubby and took in the soft tunes. I really love the new changes here, it’s time for changes people and Mano knows just the right things to do. Can’t wait to try the lunch menu next time and try out all the soup everyone was going ham on ! We will be back. Thank you for this lovely Sunday I had Mano. Starting here and ending at red house was such a wonderful foodie experience for us. We shall be back again and again :)

Ok Mano of The Shed, we did complain to our waitress AND to the cashier. NOTHING! Also in regards to the trash sign for your employees to clean plates into the trash can. That’s great and all for your employees but as guests, we don’t care to watch that while we are eating. It’s certainly got a good view. My husband and I have never heard of ranch beans and rolls as a appetizer combo-sorry. It must be a local thing. You are right though I tend to only do most of my reviews when I’m not happy with a place. I have so many great places we go to that I will have to start writing reviews on them because I’m happy most of the time until I go to places like The Shed. One more thing? You should drain the water from your salad bar veggies. It’s difficult at best to drain all the water off with a spoon that does not have slots. Do you not want to address the most important part of my review anyway? The quality of the food? It was TOUGHANDHORRIBLE! There really is no excuse of sending out very tough tri tip that my husband couldn’t even cut. My chicken was grilled on a flat top and was very dried out. Sorry if this all offends you but it was a waste of $ 44.00. My sister in law who grew up and graduated HS there told us not to go to The Shed but we did anyway. She was a local and knew it wasn’t a great place. Hmmmmm

Such amazing food. The salad bar is by far my favorite. I love the soups too… all home made. If you are in and wanting an adult beverage, by far the best mimosa’s in town. The OJ is fresh squeezed. Sooooo good on with Sunday brunch. LOVE The Shed.

This is the old Apple Shed post-sale I guess. We had breakfast there this morning. Server was polite and efficient. Took our order within 5 mins of us being seated. Food came out within ~15 mins but there was only 1 other couple there so it should have been quick. I ordered a simple burger patty scrambled eggs and sliced tomatoes so is pretty hard to mess that up. Meat was cooked med well like I asked for. Ordered and paid ~$ 1.50 extra for avocado and got 3 slivers or about 1⁄3 if a small avocado. Was a blah blah meal but is what I ordered so it was fine. Wife ordered eggs and fruit. She took one bite of the fruit and no more. Said it looked like it had freezer burn and tasted awful. I wish them the best of luck, but unless they step things up on the quality side I doubt they make it much longer.

After reading mixed reviews, we decided to try the place. The salad bar was great. Lots of choices in toppings and dressings. I got the grilled cheese sandwich. Provolone cheese and sourdough bread. It was toasted nicely! Came with a side so I tried the potatoe salad. To much onion for me but the flavor was good. Ken got the chicken pot pie. Big pieces of chicken in it. Great flavor. We took home cinnamon rolls for my friend since she heard we were coming here. Lol We will be back.

Well what can I say… I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and confirmed they use canned chicken(it was an obvious taste) too much mayo on the chicken also. Got the fries with the sandwich as they were«the best», I didn’t think so… They seemed not fresh and kept warm for hours. Service was great and everyone was very friendly. Our meal arrived very fast(8 minute wait). I might give it one more try and hope the food is much better…

This place is still the Apple shed but seems to be under new ownership. There has been many changes going on. They did away with the gift shop area. I liked the gift shop area, it normally kept me busy looking at neat items while waiting on a table. This time the place was almost empty. Although they did have a live band playing some classic country music including a banjo(kinda reminded me of the movie Deliverance) lol The staff was very friendly and attended my wife and I immediately. We were seated at a table that was nice, clean and not rocking. The silverware was clean the ketchup bottle was clean, soda cups were clean… Everything seemed nice and clean. The salad bar area seemed a little messy compared to other times that I have seen. I ended up ordering a Grilled tritip sandwich with potato wedges. The tritip sandwich was very good but the potato wedges really fell short of my expectations. Seems like they were made about 5 – 6 hours befor I placed my order and they were just kept warm under a heat lamp. I would have given«The Shed» 4 stars but due to the aged, jerky potato wedges I will give 3 stars on this review. I still do recommend the tritip sandwich. Yes I plan to come back again some time.

Decided to give this place one more try. Bad choice we made! –Terrible food sandwich tasted old not fresh way too much mayo on it and fries were overcooked. –Horrible service took 45 minutes for my food to arrive? –Rude employees what employees gossip out loudly about their beef they have going on with other co-workers on the job?
