Stopped in and decided to check this place out. Ordered the ribs and chicken with Mac and cheese and cornbread. My husband got ribs with coleslaw and we shared the fried bread with powdered sugar. The ribs are a must have! Fall off the bone and juicy. Fried bread also a must try! Soooo good! Better than funnel cake! Chicken had a smoked flavor which was delicious and Mac and cheese also amazing. Cornbread ok but not the best. Has a very strong herb taste to in that I don’t like in cornbread but others might. I recommend they get sweet whipped butter instead of just regular butter packets. That would add to the taste. Big portions so we had lots of leftovers. You must try it when cruising by the Tehachapi area. Overall excellent meal!

The catfish is my absolute favorite, I crave the Indian fry bread and they have the best, freshest salad that is More than filling. But everything I have had here is fantastic Love the laid back atmosphere.

Stopped by randomly on our way to LA from Sacramento & found this gem. The BBQ was Delish but you have the try the Cajun Garlic Shrimp & just get the full order, AMAZING.

One of our reasons for a trip to Tehachapi was for an Indian Taco from Red House. Seriously. I had one a couple years ago and have been on a quest to find one equally as good… without success. Even in my travels to southwestern states! Seems odd maybe that a BBQ joint could have the best Indian Taco, but believe me, it’s true. The fry bread is thick and a little crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Perfection! On our recent Saturday night visit we purposely did not eat alot throughout the day just so we could throw down when we came here. I walked up to the counter and ordered my beloved Indian Taco. The friendly girl behind the counter tells me they are out. My husband looks at her and then looks at me and says OHNO. I look at the girl and then look at my guy… WHATDO I DO? I had no plan B! What else is there? Do they have anything else that could possibly be as good as the Indian Taco??? I keep looking at the girl, hoping she will say J/K. She doesn’t. I ordered the brisket plate. I didn’t think it through, didn’t consider the size of the plate or amount of food I had ordered. The brisket plate has an insane amount of meat. It is delicious. The 2 sides I get are mac and cheese(one of the best I have ever had) and the Red House chili(SPICY x 10… beware). I told the owner that I came from Las Vegas for the Indian Taco. I tell her that they are out. She offers to make a batch but it will take 30 minutes. I am so surprised and humbled that she would extend that offer to me. I thanked her and politely declined. I told her I would just return the following day. The Red House impressed me with their outstanding service and dedication to their customers. I am officially a forever loyal customer! Enjoy!

Stopped in here for lunch with coworkers after it was recommended. Casual eatery with graffiti walls, taxidermy animals, and even a «spirit table.» The menu includes standard BBQ meats, but also fried fish(which got mixed reviews from those in our party that had it). Had a brisket sandwich. Solid BBQ. Sides were average(I had fries, though one coworker really like the chili Mac). Portions are very generous. Meats come with mild or spicy sauce, with the spicy offering a pleasant kick. This place gets busy at lunch, so be prepared for a slower lunch break, but some BBQ that’s worth it.

Woo hoo! Sweet idea of mine to check on Unilocal to see what was near to the honeywagonbrewery(which still has the best brews this side of the county line) and I happen upon this BBQ joint and told my wife and good friend tommy2dicks, some rib meat on the belly will do us a lot of good! We hit this place in the nick of time as the place filled up and the line became long right after we placed our order of ribs, brisket, sides and my 1 ½ pound beef rib which they only serve on Saturdays! The sides we got were Mac n’ cheese/cornbread/chili/fried pickles and holy smokes, all was excellent in flavor and not all greasy or dried out… very fresh and very very tasty! The ribs and brisket were excellent & their spicy BBQ sauce is pretty bomb! My very large beef rib melted in your mouth and I am so glad I got this as the owner(I think) told us they usually sellout of this massive rib! The restaurant itself was very nice and had a great BBQ vibe. Indoor and out door seating along with some cool Native American culture throughout! We will be back again and again! Keep up the great work!

We stopped here on our way home during a road trip and we’re so pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is awesome with writing all over the walls. The bbq was awesome too and full of flavor. Would definitely stop here again.

I need a 6th star to review this place. Not only was the brisket I had amazing. And I mean amazing. But they deserve an extra star for having such friendly, helpful staff. I’ve paid to 10x the price and not been treated as well. Not only will I be back, but I will also recommend it to everyone I talk to for the next week or so. If you want Indian Tacos though, don’t come on Wednesday…

Can I give zero stars? Worst fry bread ever they use wheat bread wasnt fried long enough. Beans had funny taste. There chilli is not good tasting at all. The brisket was tender but had no flavor. Brisket was also cold. The sauce they give you doesnt taste like bbq sauce more like a sweet and sour sauce. went out of are way to try this place. Soda machine was flat. So disapointed after reading every ones reviews. If you want good bbq go to the Dog House Grill in Fresno Ca. Across from Fresno State. But there was a really nice Chinese lady there super sweet lady. We didnt even eat most of it just left it on the table waste of $ 23 dollars.

Ordered the brisket sandwich with a side of fries. They brought the sandwich but bread was cold and the meet was lukewarm. But they brought it without the french fries. I took a bite and then waited for my french fries to come. French fries finally came they were hot but there was no ketchup to be had. When I asked for ketchup they went to another patron and asked them if they could take their Ketchup. They gave up their Ketchup, but there was only a small amount ketchup in the bottle which looked old. What restaurant doesn’t keep Ketchup on hand? They had no more ketchup in the whole place! It’s a good thing that their the only BBQ Place in town. If they had competition I don’t think they’d last! It’s the only barbecue place I’ve ever been to that when you asked for barbecue sauce thy give you a small tiny plastic container half-full. I would recommend that they buy more ketchup And also putting out some barbecue sauce on the tables or on a stand, would make it much better. They also should make sure their bread isn’t cold like it just came out of the refrigerator and their meet should be hot, not lukewarm and dry. Just Saying!

We came for the Indian tacos, but were disappointed to learn that the woman who makes them was not in that day. I settled for the 4 ribs + 2 sides meal and was happy with my compromise. The ribs were thick and juicy, and the spicy barbecue sauce was a welcome addition. For sides I got the cornbread(delicious — comes with honey and butter) and pretty standard mashed potatoes and gravy. I heard good things about the chili mac too! The vibe is definitely casual, as is clear by the encouraged graffiti on the walls. Service was good, and I would definitely return for the ribs, or hopefully the sought after Indian taco! Next time…

We ordered the Fry Bread Taco’s, not the BBQ so take this review with a grain of salt. I’m sure the BBQ is good; I’m just not a fan of BBQ due to all the sugar in the sauces. These had to be the worst fry bread tacos I have ever eaten in my life. They were doughy and not fully cooked, there was little meat in the sauce, and the lettuce was these dark greens that tasted awful with chili. Also had cornbread which was dry and tasted like it came from a package. I don’t think I will be back… **In response to the comments: I’m disappointed in the owner’s reply. You could have taken a constructive approach and/or invited us back(perhaps the day I came was not typical, and note I did warn reviewers I only tried two menu items!) instead you took a cheap shot at me. Your BBQ is probably pretty great, but the fry bread, at least on the day I came was not cooked right and that is what I based my review on. Your manners not so great. I think my reviews are pretty fair and balanced, and a lot of people agree. So much so that I am a 4 year Unilocal Elite in San Francisco — the city with the most Unilocal users. In response to your Denny’s comment I would suggest reading the other 343 reviews I have written. The overwhelming majority are from independent restaurants. Also look closely at my rating distribution. I’m not the type of reviewer that rates stuff all 1’s or all 5’s; I take a critical and balanced approach. On my most recent trip to Mojave(and area) I tried several local restaurants before caving in and doing Denny’s. Coyote Café was one of them. High Unilocal reviews from local users in the area, but awful food. I’ve been to a lot of small towns and found a lot of gems, not this trip. Anyways best of luck running your business; I’m sorry if my review offended you.

For the typical BBQ place you would think you would get a small taste for what they have to offer for a a moderate chunk of your wallet. This place is not like that at all. The prices here are very reasonable for a huge amount of food. I started by seeing this place on Unilocal since I was stuck in Tehachapi for a few hours and this restaurant had the highest reviews so I knew I needed to give it a try. Once I arrived there I placed a to go order for their brisket with their navajo chili and their red cabbage. It only took about 5 – 10 minutes to get my meal. So it begins! I opened up the to go box and noticed the whole front tray was filled to the brim with thick chunks of brisket. It also came with a large roll which is probably made fresh at a nearby bakery. The bricket had a great smoke on it and was delicious. It pulled apart which is a must for bbq. The beans and the cabbage were packaged seperately which was nice so it didnt spill all over the place and I love when my food doesn’t touch. The navajo beans were delicious and had just the right amount of spice and the cabbage was great too especially since it didnt get on my clothes. So with everything all together the place is great rain or shine, the prices are good, the portions are huge and the taste is great. Gonna bring the family back here soon. Thank you work for keeping me up in Tehachapi which allowed me to try this great BBQ place.

My first visit to Tehachapi CA from Alhambra CA. I Unilocaled restaurants and Red House BBQ popped up. I followed my instinct and was 100% satisfied. My bbq pulled pork was ohh soo good the baked beans were omg. And the corn bread was delish. My brother had a bbq pulled pork sandwich that was huge. Oh yeah the potatoe salad is to die for. No exagerating here. I know i’ll be bach soon. I only wish the gals had a better attitude. They all seemed… .not very happy. If i worked there SMILESALLDAYLONG ~v~

This place never disappoints! It’s in the quaint little downtown area of Tehachapi on Business 58 so it’s easy off/easy on the freeway. You can eat outside or inside although outside is usually pretty windy! The good stuff: The ribs are impeccably smoked with visible smoke rings and minimal fat left after rendering! Get em dry(no sauce) and you can taste the smokiness! Tenderness abounds! The brisket is amazing and they give you ‘a lot of it’! Again, smoke ring is evident and minimal fat. This stuff is lean, moist and tender. Get your hot BBQ sauce on the side and dip the brisket if you need to. The ‘ok’ to ‘not so good’ stuff: Cornbread: dry and lukewarm Beans: just ranch beans, nothing to see or taste here! Ribs: awesome Brisket: awesome We’ll be back!

The hostess is the best thing about this restaurant. She’s a bit hard to understand once in awhile but so pleasant and so caring about her customers and their satisfaction. We didn’t care for the corn bread at all so she let us get a replacement side. We’ve been stationed in the south and have had cornbread that just melts in your mouth. Theirs has dill in it which we didn’t care for. The ribs with the molasses on them are so fabulous and full of flavor. I also loved the chicken. Price is very reasonable in my opinion. My son loved the potato wedges also. :)
