Although I think Grandma Honey’s Pantry is part of the Archwood Green Barns Farmers’ Market, it is located in a separate building and, unlike the rest of the market, it is open year long and on Saturdays. This place is fantastic. When I first moved to this area, I was concerned about finding a place that sold meats from humanely raised livestock. Grandma Honey’s pantry is that place. Joyce sells chicken, beef, and pork(and some other meats) year round.(Keep in mind that if you normally eat meat from a supermarket, you may at first notice a slightly different taste from free range chickens and grass-fed beef — they both taste a bit gamey — but they are delicious.) She also sells dairy products, including eggs from free range chickens. I think the prices on her dairy and meats are very reasonable. Joyce also sells produce, canned goods, baked goods, and other odds and ends(dried beans, cornmeal, and baked beans to name a few). Her tomatoes are delicious — just like the ones I used eat straight off the vine on my grandfather’s farm as a kid. Of the canned goods, I’ve only tried the cherries, but they were excellent. I’m actually not sure what her prices are like for the produce — I didn’t look — but the canned goods are higher than what you would pay in a store. BUT, if you consider all the work that goes in to canning, plus the fact that you keep the jar, I think the price is right. A couple things to keep in mind: 1) This is at a farmers’ market. Don’t expect a fancy store with glitz and glam. 2) Joyce’s products are seasonal and she won’t always have what you’re looking for. That’s the nature of running a farm. Joyce runs the kind of business where I want my money going. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
