Jo Jo’s Famous Chili Dog, Butter Burger & Wings

Right from the beginning I had a good vibe about this college spot 5 minutes walking from The University of Toledo… Home of the Rockets. «Hotline Bling» by DriZzy was playing in the background with the Cleveland Cavs vs Kobe’s Lakers for the last time unless the Lakers get to the Championship. The tile walls are covered with the names of well wishers, students & famous people who made their way here for a night time snack.
Tonight, I decided on the All-​Beef «Coney Island» style hotdog which I balanced with a garden salad
with French dressing. I was totally impressed by the fresh crispy Romaine lettuce with tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, an occasional diced sweet onion that was perfect, sliced boiled egg and croutons that were edible. Sometimes places have extra hard croutons that can do damage to dental work.
The service was great. I wanted to photograph the crew but I stayed focused on the food. People get skittish when they see a camera. Overall, I would definitely recommend the busy college spot Jo Jo’s to anyone with a craving for fried shrimp, fish, butter-​burgers, fries, onion rings, salads, grilled chicken breast sandwich. Jo Jo’s truck is in the downtown line up on St. Clair on Tuesday and Thursday over the lunch hour. Today it was the only truck with a line, which I took as a good sign. Indeed, during our 15 minutes of waiting to order and for our food, it was the truck to really draw any kind of a crowd.
This was my first visit to Jo Jo’s, so while I was really curious about their chili dogs, I opted for a safer dish, chicken chunks and fries. The chicken was obviously hand cut and breaded and the fries were real potatoes — no frozen processed crap here! My lunch companion was feeling braver than I and went all in with 2 chili cheese dogs and fries.
We were both quite happy with our food. Next time around I’ll have to try a dog.

If you’re not afraid of a little butter, you’ll appreciate JoJo’s.
Great for the late night crowd, especially on weekends.
Recommendations: Chicken and waffles, onion rings, and of course the original butter burger.
