There is no compromise in quality for the value of the food served at this restaurant. I am in Toledo on a business trip and have eaten here several times. Everything I’ve tried so far is DELICIOUS! My favorite dish so far is the Rock & Roll sushi. Who knew that Toledo had such a great sushi place? Can’t wait to go back for lunch!

Lunch bento box for $ 10 — YES, PLEASE! And no compromise in quality for the value. So, so good. The shumai is the BEST.

Given that I’ve ordered take-out at least once a week(sometimes twice) since they’ve been open, and I have not once been disappointed, I’m upgrading my review from three stars to four. I can get a delicious and healthy sushi lunch within 10 – 15 minutes for around $ 20, which is completely reasonable. The quality of the food has been consistently top notch, and the servers(and Joe the sushi chef!) are always friendly. Even though I’m not much on surimi(imitation crab) or sweet sauces or tempura in my sushi, there are still plenty of options outside of those. My go-to lunch has been a seaweed salad, a small vegetarian roll(usually shiitake), and either a fancier roll or the $ 10 sashimi sampler. That’s plenty of food for a reasonable price. I love having this place next door.

Working downtown this week, a friend and I wanted to try the new sushi bar that opened in the Edison Building, Kyoto Ka Downtown. The restaurant was quite busy with the lunch rush when we arrived, but it only took a couple of minutes to be seated at a table. The first thing that impressed me about the restaurant was the menu, which was nicely organized and tastefully illustrated. Wanting to try a little bit of everything, I ordered the Sushi Bento box. With a shared pot of scalding hot green tea, my bill was $ 12.83, which felt very reasonable. The restaurant looked every bit the trendy sushi bar, with lots of beautiful hardwood and glittering glass everywhere. My bowl of miso soup arrived first, and was pretty typical with a nice, rich flavour and a couple of pieces each of both tofu and wakame. As with any hand-crafted food, it took some time to receive the rest of our orders, but not an unreasonably long period. That said, the presentation was spot-on, with my friend’s two rolls and my bento box both looking absolutely perfect! Taste wise, everything in the bento box was fantastic! The salad was crisp, with a light ginger dressing. The six pieces of California roll were nicely formed and had a good flavour. The two gyoza were perfectly fried, while the singular shumai was fantastic! Saving the best for last, was the three pieces of nigiri sushi: maguro(tuna), sake(salmon), and suzuki(sea bass). The tuna and sea bass were completely amazing in and of themselves, while the salmon was seductively exquisite and easily the best salmon sushi I have ever had here in the Midwest. My kudos to the itamae! Overall I rate Kyoto Ka Downtown as being Excellent, with my only quibble being that the server never asked if we would like another pot of green tea. Regardless I cannot wait until I can come back again!
