Excel Car Stereo

When I purchased this radio I was told by John that if there were any problems with this unit they would replace it or exchange it with no problem. After a week I started having issues with the Sony they installed. Well after replacing the radio and the XM unit, both twice they could not fix the problem. I then said I want to change from the Sony to The Kenwood. I told them I would pay the difference. Well he did it all right, but John was not happy. He told me not to bring it back to him and if there were any problems take it to Kenwood. By the way, I have had NO problems with the new radio since then. I would not recommend doing business with them at all. John will promise you the moon to sell you junk that he only gets a good price on. Buyer beware. I would go to Audio Matrix. Much better place.

Brought my Range Rover here to have an amp and sub installed. And the result of it is excellent!!! Clean, and very knowledgable staff. John and his team are professionals. I highly recommend this place. Great job fellas!

I’ve brought six cars here to get tinted. Yes you read that right, six! My own, my mother’s, my sister’s, and 3 friends. An older Asian gentleman owns this place and remembers me each time I come. The last time I came, he had two assistants, with one helping with customers. He has better English than the Asian and that may explain why he’s the communicator, though the Asian deals with transactions.
There is a 5-​year guarantee on the tints here. One of my tints began to come off, though the reason why it came off may be partly my fault: I was driving in the middle of a snowstorm and the defroster in my car wasn’t working! So I had to roll the windows down to see where I was driving and this made the tint glue not do it’s job. I brought my car in and the Asian replaced the tint (only one needed to be replaced) for free.

Got new 12″ memphis subs, speakers, and HID lights for my Toyota Camry. They bump and well worth!

John, Lee, Valentin are all fantastic with great customer service… Had my windows tinted and they explained the type of film and the process to put it on. Lifetime guarantee… FANTASTIC. GREAT SERVICE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SHOP.

update to my use of this business, i had one tinted window that started to come off, so i took it in and they redid the window for free. did a great job. i also needed to have a car alarm remote replaced. they did the alarm a few years ago and the remote went bad. he sent it in and i got it replaced for free. he reprogrammed it and its all working great now. thanks !

I called and asked how much it would be to tint my front two windows. The guy quoted me $ 40 (NOT BAD) so I made an appoint for 5pm. I got there at 5:03 and they were just starting on another car. The owner said the car before me showed up late and he asked me to come back the next day. I told him I made an appointment for a reason, I left work early to get my car taken care of that day. He said he would only charge me $ 30 if I came back the next day. I told him never mind, I’ll take my car somewhere else. He then said they would stay later to get it done. I ended up waiting for about 45 min and when they finally got to my car they did a RUSH job. Ended up with a razor mark on the driver side (similar to other pictures posted) and a bubble on the passenger side. I don’t even want to go back for them to fix it. I would have rather paid a higher price for better quality work.

I had them install a new head unit I got for Christams. Great work, great price and great customer service. I will definitely use them again for stereo and tint jobs!

Don’t waste your time.
Called them this morning and asked if they had a face kit and wire harness for my truck. I call, give them the make and model of my truck, guy takes a few minutes and checks and says «yep got em, $ 25 cash.» I say Ok I’ll be there in an hour. I take my lunch, go to the store and get cash back since the deal is better in cash, then drive over to the stereo shop.
I get there and tell them what I need and the guy says «oh ya, your the guy that called.» He spends the next 10 minutes looking through a bunch of face kits only to tell me «Sorry we’re all out of that one, its a popular kit.» Really? Apparently he didn’t even bother to check and make sure he had one when I called earlier.
So there it is, my lunch hour and gas wasted, all cause this guy didn’t want to take the time to verify he had something in stock when a potential customer called. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to go, even if your just buying parts these guys are still a terrible option.

I got my windows tinted here and I am happy with the results car is staying cooler, there are no bubbles, everything is as expected. Almost did not go here because of the mixed reviews, but that would have been a mistake. The price was good as well as the service. 5 stars

Great service. Their prices are good, i mean if you want to buy something cheap then u might as well go on Craig’s list because they have only top of the line stuff. I brought in my 2 12 kickers and they i bought a 2000 watt performance teknique amp to power my subs an some new speakers for my suburban. They made my car sound better than i expected. Im going to be investing more money in this great shop. Im forsure going to recommend to everyone.

These guys are great. They installed a full system in my boat and it sounds great, 2 12s 8 6/​9s 3 amps and a deck and it rocks! Great pricing and very helpful. I will always come here for all of my vehicles. They also have done an alarm system on one of my work trucks. I like how they kept everything clean and all wires neat.

Best place ever to get your windows tinted. They’re fast and do a great job. This is my second time visiting them and they’re great.

This review is in regards to my car tinting experience at Excel. The car is a new 2013 BMW X6.
After reading the reviews, I figure Excel «seems professional» and can do a good job on car tint.
BOY WAS I WRONG — STAY AWAY! DO NOT GO THERE!
I called them ahead and asked about tinting 2 front windows only (since the back came with factory tint). I was quoted $ 50 over the phone for the tint. The price was reasonable and comparable with other tint shops.
So about 2 weeks later, when I finally had time, I dropped by to see the place and to talk to the guys there. I informed the owner that I was looking to tint the cars two front windows and I would like to try to match factory tint. Of course, I know an exact match would be impossible (unless I use the exact same films etc), but I would like to come as close as possible.
The owner was nice enough to show me a bunch of different shades and see which one works best. Once I selected one that was the closest in shade, he informed me that it was going to be $ 70 for the tint. I told him that I called a couple weeks back and he only said $ 50. Then he starts going into the ‘quality’ of the films are different, etc. but I was thinking if this guy is going to pull a fast one, no thank you.
I told the owner that I’d think about it and was getting ready to leave. He then told me he can do it for $ 60 and he can do it right away and be done in like 30 – 40 minutes. I thought about it and for $ 10 extra dollars, if he can do a professional job right at the moment where I don’t have to come back — then I’m fine with that. TIME & GAS is money after-​all.
So the owner and a younger employee started working on the tint. I noticed that they were quite «Speedy» at it. Like I mentioned before, no problem with it, if they can do a pro job. Like he said, the tint was done in about 40 minutes. However after the tint, I noticed there were a bunch of small air bubbles and dust particles. I brought this up to the owner and he said «No need to worry, a couple days later, it will be gone».
I’m no expert on tinting but I do have experience with tinting on previous cars and stuff. I told him, if anything pops up I’d be back and the owner said «no problem, come back and I will take good care of you»
So I left and drove off to work.
After work, I get back into the car and I noticed ALOT of PROBLEMS. Alot more tiny air bubbles, dust particles (assuming they didn’t do a good clean) and just sh*tty work. (Look — I’m not OCD and I’m fairly reasonable but if I can count over a dozen of these spots ON BOTH WINDOWS … its gotta be bad). Due to work, I’m unable to take it right back to the owner. However a couple days later when the moisture is suppose to be gone and everything is suppose to be settled — I took it back to the shop and the owner quickly fixed the big bubbles. I asked him about the other ‘bubbles/​tiny air pockets” and he said «OH don’t worry, it’d be gone soon».
I give it a couple more days and work got busy. I wasn’t able to go back until 8 – 9 days after tinting. When I got back, I told him all the issues and the owner was like «no, no issues» and started going off saying how «no professional can do it like I want», «they do it good», «no problem (feels like I’m the one over-​reacting) … I told him, I have had 4 cars done and I know what they are suppose to look like … this was becoming a TINTING HELL
After a few minutes of pointing out all the bubbles/​spots — which was alot … the owner said — «I can give your money back or I can re-​do it.» I debated about it and I was about to ask for refund … the owner then offered to re-​do everything. I thought — fine, let them take care of it.
So the owner’s crew took off the first film and started to apply 2^nd film. I have to say, they did do a better job the 2^nd time around.
HOWEVER — it still was shitty. Granted there was much less spots/​bubbles, but there were still some. After they did the 2^nd film, even my brother and neighbor saw the tint and they all said ‘damn its still bad!’ when they took a closer look at it.
Enough was enough, so I made an appointment with ROB’S TINTING in Culver city and took it there to redo the tint! They have over 100+ positive reviews on Unilocal.When I took the car there, the employee at Rob’s tinting pointed out some stuff that happened as a result of the sh*tty job from Excel:
1) they cut off a stretch of the rubber panel in the glass area
2) the younger employee over heated and burnt the plastic panel in the passenger side front door area
3) the younger employee cut/​scratch the door frame area with his cutter when cutting the film
The small spots and bubbles are hard to take pictures, otherwise I would have full album of the poor work. See the pics I was able to take and posted up!
So if you want to pay for a bad tint, waste your time driving back and forth, and get your car damaged in the process — then yes, you should go to Excel.
IF NOT, then STAY VERY FAR AWAY!

Before I came here, I went to Best Buy to check out a car stereo for my Hubby’s Xmas gift the Friday before Xmas.
Best Buy only had one car stereo that was affordable, their installation would’ve cost me $ 100 and I would’ve had to see if they could fit me in for install, buuuuuut I can still buy the stereo and come back for the install. Uuuuuhhhh noh…
So I decided to go to Unilocal for advice and BAM! Just like Emeril, I found this place! I knew I can count on my Unilocal peeps! Thanks!
John had numerous stereos for the same affordable price and was even patient with me having a hard time deciding. In the end he saved me almost $ 40 with install and I think I even got a better stereo than the one they had in Best Buy! They also installed it in less than 15 minutes!
Now instead of our jenky stock radio which its volume goes up and down at random times, we now own a car stereo that has USB connection! My IPhone is definitely thankful for that!
With all that said, don’t you think this place deserves 5 stars?! I do! I do!

EXCELLENT customer service, good prices and John (the owner) is very honest! I hate going to a shop where they try to rip you off bc you’re a girl. Not at this shop.
