John Henry’s was a popular spot in Chambersburg for many years. You could count on getting very fresh seafood, and a few Italian staples as well. Several years ago they followed other establishments in leaving the«Burg» and finding a new home in the suburbs. This new home was formerly the Italian American club, it was slightly updated and easily expanded the square footage by 10 times or more. Most of this new space is devoted to catering and banquets. A gift certificate brought me here for my second visit(the first one was not impressive and I had no desire to return) I brought 3 others with me, 2 of whom I thought would appreciate the cuisine more than I would. By the end of the meal we all left pretty happy, and this experience exceeded the first. Your meal begins with good bread and seasoned oil, I ordered 2 apps for the table to share. First out was a very good burrata salad, it contained a mound of lightly dressed arugula with a few red onion slices, a ball of burrata that had a balsamic reduction on it, and slices of a very healthy bright red tomato. To see such a nice specimen of the fruit in dead winter had me feeling confident about upcoming courses. This was a great salad to share, but probably more fitting for 2 people($ 13) Next up was an app called Joe’s meatball($ 15) This dish was so big most of us just gasped when we saw it arrive. Not really spherical, more of a dome, but also weighing in at a minimum of 18 oz. the dome of very good and not too firm meat was drenched in a perfect bolognese, this version containing large carrot chunks, bite sized chunks of stew type beef and many peas. It also featured 2 large dollops of ricotta and 2 slices of grilled bread. Even the 2 meatball snobs in our group(yes, I’m one of them) declared it Nona worthy. Try as we might, we were not going to finish this, almost half came home for a future lunch. The entrees were where the meal took a slight downturn for me. My striped bass special of the evening arrived slightly different than described by Alex. Had I known it would contain olives and capers I probably wouldn’t have selected it. But the grilled fish was very good, and the seafood risotto was decent. Trish’s shrimp parm looked really good, but the piece I tasted was over salted. She didn’t think so though. Our other 2 dining companions seemed to enjoy their pasta dishes, I tasted the shrimp scampi pasta, not garlicky enough for my taste. There were a few service issues. Once our meals were served Alex seemed to disappear. I would have ordered another vino, and a few of us needed our water refilled. After clearing plates and boxing up the other diners leftovers, we had to wait quite some time to see him again. Lastly, and this may not concern many younger readers, our server continuously referred to us as «guys». This does not really bother me, but it DOES really annoy an older female guest we had with us. I know of other people who also find this inappropriate, and in my experience, restaurants with superior service do not address their patrons in such a way. By the time we were leaving, the room we were in and the bar were pretty full. And private rooms were also becoming occupied. I wondered how food and service would be affected with higher volume. So would I return? Without a gift certificate probably not. If I did I would get that meatball as my entrée. For less picky locals this might be a better fit than it was for me. 3.75 how you guys doin Unilocal

I must say that I was a bit apprehensive as we pulled up here. Pretty outside but outdated looking on the inside w/annoying waiters(for the most part). They really need to update their décor to reflect on their food! I expected the food to be so-so. .. but in reality … so-so REALLYGOOD!!! We started with a buratta salad that boasted a nice large reddish Jersey tomato and arugula salad w/a great balsamic. This was shared among 4 people. Along with the… HUMONGOUS and borderline obscene meatball appetizer! This thing was so big that it teetered on the side of a meatloaf instead! Because my mom makes the best Italian meatballs I’ve ever tasted(only 2 people have come close over the years), I was hesitant about tasting this monstrosity! I’m sooooo glad I did though! It tasted sooo very good! Along w/the meatball was a large dollop of ricotta cheese, two hearty slices of bread and about 3 large carrots that were tasty as well. Over it all was a really good bolognese sauce, including peas. We all enjoyed our dinners — shrimp parm w/penne, vodka sauce w/sausage over penne, shrimp scampi and striped bass over risotto. WOW! Unfortunatley, we passed on desserts(which looked stupendous overall) but we each went home w/doggie bags! I’d def go again and most likely get the meatball and a side of pasta for my main entrée!

So the 6 of us are sitting here for New Years and none of us could finish dinner. Nice atmosphere, open bar but dinner was literally inedible. Steak with a funny aftertaste and two shrimp in a weird red sauce that ruined it. I never complain about steak, until tonight. Service is good. Staff is nice. Order pizza in for next year. Happy New Year.

Always go there for special occasion dinners. Last night– no exception. Dinner was superb, service outstanding. This is our favorite place to take guests, out-of-town company, or meet good friends. We have never had a bad dish or meal here. Love it!!!

Spent my Saturday evening here and had an amazing night! Best Italian/Seafood I’ve had in ages and a really nice environment. Nice crowd, casual dress. But if you’re in the mood, go ahead and dress up! Caprese salad, shrimp parmigiano, steak, lamb, and cocktails amazing! A hidden treasure, certainly looking forward to returning. :)

I have to say I’m surprised by the bad reviews I have never had a bad meal here and I’m pretty picky. All I can say is give it another try. Just not the day that I go because I don’t want to wait for a table. We had my daughter’s sweet 16 party at this place and everything was really really exceptional. So we started going here for dinner over the summer and we sat outside. It’s a really great space and the service is just as if you were inside. I keep returning because they have really fresh oysters. And usually have a couple different ones to choose from. I have ordered the fish, steak, and pasta everything has always comes out really good. I haven’t been disappointed yet and plan on going back real soon

I’ve eaten at The Stone Terrace on many occasions. I recently covered a wedding here as a videographer. The Stone Terrace staff were amazing to the vendors. It was one of the nicest treatments I’ve ever experienced. We were given a vendor table in the banquet room, served three courses(salad, pasta, and entrée) and were given pitchers of soda and water. We were fed at the same time as guests to ensure we didn’t miss any of the action. Many venues make vendors beg for food but The Stone Terrace knows what they’re doing to ensure the wedding flows smoothly.

This place is awful! Our waiter was great until he said the thermostat is at 68 degrees” That is not what I wanted to hear when it had to be at least 80+ degrees. Two of us ordered the 20 oz Cowboy Ribeye, which was offered as a special. It was a $ 42, SPECIAL, specially BAD. Both steaks came out perfectly cooked. Except the texture was that of a previously frozen steak. When a medium rare steak is cut into, and no juice runs out a flag went up. Menu was the same for over a year according to my other dining partner. This place may be a great catering hall, but Al carte dinners suck. Never see me in that rathole again.

I have heard nothing but great things about the Stone Terrace. However this was not our experience. This started out great had a good waiter who started us with bread and water. The bread and oil dip was the best part of the meal. We ordered a clams casino as an appetizer and when it arrived 5 minutes later we found that it was not a normal clams casino. Typically this dish is served baked on the shell mixed with bacon, breadcrumbs and sometimes peppers. This dish was clams with a piece of bacon on top we tried it and we both were pleasantly surprised by the flavor profile and how light it was. The only sour note on this dish is the fact that the clams were not cleaned and this is inexcusable. It is not a hard thing to do and it just detracts from the quality of the food. For the main course we tried the penne vodka with chicken and the shrimp scampi. The dishes were okay nothing special to report. I had seen a few comments that it took forever and a day for Unilocalers to get their food, perhaps the owners took these comments to heart because we walked in at 6:30 and walked out at 7:15. We were in and out so fast we did not have a chance to order a second drink. I have to say we will not be back.

We just returned from my great nephews christening luncheon at Stone Terrace and felt compelled to write my first review ever. While the food was was good, with the exception of a severely overdressed salad, it was very difficult to enjoy it or anything else due to the UNGODLY room temperature. The room was sweltering, there wasn’t even any air movement! When my brother spoke to them about the situation, he was told the air conditioning was working yesterday, followed by blank stares and shoulder shrugging. They didn’t seem to feel they bore any type of responsibility or accountability for allowing this affair to be very uncomfortable for my brother and his guests. I would have thought a slight price adjustment to help compensate for a clearly unacceptable situation would have been in order, but again, just more blank stares and shoulder shrugging. My advice, it might be advisable to plan a winter weather event here… if the heat isn’t working you can put your coat on!

Our server, Alex, was wonderful. Unfortunately our entrees came an hour and a half after we ordered. I had the seafood fra diavolo. It was so salty that it was inedible. We will not return.

Not sure why all the high marks but seems like most haven’t eaten outside of Hamilton, NJ. Opted to go here for my birthday since I saw they had raw seafood. The half dozen clams were more like 3 split into 6, barely any clams. The oysters were ok but again not much there. My wife had the mussels and it was horribly salty with not much flavor other than salt. I had the pasta with seafood in the spicy sauce and again terrible with no flavor. Sauce tasted like it came out of a can. I would recommend going somewhere else… anywhere is better than the food here. The ambiance is more for seniors or 50 somethings trying to pick up someone at the bar. Trust me I know food… I’ve been cooking for over 20 years… there’s no good cooking going on here. It’s a shame I was really hoping this was going to my new go to for raw seafood.

The seafood is great, but prices are high for what you get, service is slow and they charged $ 42 for«cowboy steak» that is essentially one step above Chuck steak! I know they are not known for steak, and are better known for their seafood, but how hard is it to choose a decent cut of meat and cook it properly? I will say that I have always had good experiences when I have gone there for banquet events. But I am not sure if I will go back to the restaurant itself. Just ok in my opinion.

Tonight we held my parents 40th wedding anniversary celebration dinner at the Stone Terrace. There is not a single thing I would have changed regarding our experience. The room fit all 16 of us perfectly. The staff was exceptional. Our waitress Jenny was extremely accommodating, friendly(the kids loved her), and she showed much enthusiasm regarding the menu food choices. The food was perfection from appetizers to the main course. The seafood risotto, Joe’s calamari, and portobello crab appetizers are not to be missed. Our main dishes from crab cakes, to NY strip steaks, to macadamia nut crusted grouper, stuffed shrimp and swordfish were all spot on, flavors were blended perfectly. They allowed us to bring our own cake and cut and served it for us. The bar kept the drinks coming all night. I can’t wait to have another reason to celebrate just to go back.

This was the first time we went to this restaurant. The atmosphere is nice. Parking situation during a wedding is terrible. Food is extremely pricey. Service was ok, not great, just ok. We went on a Saturday night And we got a table quickly. They where very busy. I really wanted to like this place. The food was not great, but very expensive! Fish and chips for $ 20? Over priced and the food isn’t that great. Sorry.

My wife and I went to the Stone Terrace yesterday for a family post funeral luncheon and I must say, it was much better than expected. This is the old Italian American Sportsman Club and I haven’t been here since the late 60s when my fraternity had their occasional dinner meetings. Quite a transformation. The facility is older than most places but has been maintained and /or redecorated nicely. The decorations and Christmas tree in the lobby were quite nice. They are situated on a large piece of property and the grounds are quite nice. Our lunch started with an excellent salad with oil and vinegar along with a touch of Parmesan which was excellent. Of course, there was a bowl of cheese on the table so you could add more to your taste. We also had a bottle of red and white wine as well — traded the white with another table since we all wanted red. The next course was a family style platter of macaroni(pasta to most people) with a nice, cheesy sauce as well. We all had Macadamia encrusted Tilapia which came with potatoes and green beans. Dessert consisted of a mixed platter of cookies and cakes — also excellent. Considering that this was a luncheon for approximately 50 people in the middle of the afternoon, they did a great job. I am told the the bar is nice and has a good happy hour so we will have to try that as well.

For the holidays I’d received a gift card from the Stone Terrace and what better time to use it than for a birthday. Total of 4 of us visited for the first time and it was a great choice. It’s set back off the main road and is probably better known for wedding receptions, large parties and corporate events. It’s best to get a reservation on the weekends. I believe they’re closed the earlier days of the week. We were promptly seated and served homemade Italian bread along with an olive oil dipping bowl containing roasted garlic cloves. I’m not a big bread person, but this was very good. The Caesar salad is enough to share for 2. We started with a couple of appetizers— oysters casino and Joe’s Calamari. Both were excellent. I recommend Joe’s Calamari over the regular calamari on the menu. It has Joe’s sauce which is an olive oil and garlic base with added spices and a little marinara. It also contained a fair amount of fresh sauteed mushrooms. The waiters were very attentive and knowledgeable. For the main course, I ordered the seafood over pasta which contained nice amounts of crabmeat, large shrimp, mussels and clams. Again, I had this with Joe’s Sauce. My wife ordered the Penne ala Vodka which she claims was fantastic and one of the best she’s had. My brother ordered the Penne Vodka with chicken while my sister-on-law ordered the house special of soft shell crabs. All were excellent and required doggies bags due to the nice portions. Dessert was a birthday Mexican Coffee which we all shared. I’m looking forward to our next visit.

The Stone Terrace occupies the former restaurant space of the Italian American Sportsman Club. My grandfather worked at the club for 30+ years and served a term as President way back in the day. It was cool to see it now 20+ years later. It was only fitting that I returned here for my grandparent’s 65th wedding anniversary on a Sunday afternoon in October. I actually drove past the entrance to the room where the party was because it’s not very clearly marked. The room we had for the day was large and bright due to several large windows along the front wall. The bar was located adjacent to the dining area and thankfully had a few TV’s so we could check the football scores. The first course was a mixed salad with oil & vinegar that was lightly dusted with cheese. I’m not a fan of cheese in my salad but other than that it was pretty good. The second course was Vodka Rigatoni and Fettuccini Alfaro. The pasta was cooked spot on and both sauces get an «A». For the main course there was a choice between Chicken Parm and fish(Tilapia I think). When my Chicken Parm came out it didn’t look that great but looks can be deceiving. It was great!

Attended a function here within the dining hall. For a catered event the food was pretty solid. The did a nice job remodeling the room. I took a look at the main bar and restaurant which appeared nice as well. This would be a nice place to attend a wedding.
