Wu’s Garden

Really good, simple Chinese food. This location was recommended to me by a friend in the area when I moved here, and it did not disappoint. A lot of things I haven’t tried, but everything I have tried was fantastic!

I’m very impressed the food. Hot, fresh, tasty and lots of it. Enough left over for tomorrow’s lunch. Also the waitress/​server was attentive and kept the water glasses filled and hot tea filled when empty. I didn’t see the greasy food that some others have talked about. I will come again when I’m looking for good food at a reasonable price.

Okay, it’s Gresham, not exactly a culinary paradise but I read the Unilocal reviews and I thought i would try it. Mistake, mistake, mistake. Yes Pavorn, portions are big, in fact they were so big they soaked the plastic bag, and yes the food was greasy, very greasy. This was not happy food even though I ordered the Happy Family. This was real bad food. The deli at Safeway right across the way has better Chinese food.

Fried rice not the greatest either. Tofu was good.

My daughter, husband and I ate there last night. Nice portions. We took some home. Good food. The food came fast. It was our first time there.

This isn’t the place to come if you want to be wined and dined. If you want big portion, greasy, makes you happy food… This is the place to be! Not to mention it’s pretty cheap!

Best Chinese food in gresham/​Troutdale oregon. The lunch specials are huge portions and are a great price. They’re also very fast!

I’m giving this 3 stars because me and my boyfriend ordered take out and he brought it home, first they got our order wrong. We ordered orange chicken and we got sweet and sour which I was okay until I tasted the sauce. It was not sweet and sour, it tasted like oranges. The lo mein was also not the best. It kind of tasted like fancy top romen. Not the best place I have had.

This is a cute little restaurant. The food was good and came out pretty quick. One thing that wasn’t as good was the customer service; I’m not sure if our waitress was being short with me or if it was just the language barrier. Also, there was a long black piece of hair in my lo mein. Ew! The noodles still tasted good though.
I got the vegetable lo mein, which tastes pretty much like chow mein with thinner noodles. My husband got the #6; pork fried rice, chicken, fried shrimp, and char siu pork (I know, he can eat! Lol). And we got spring rolls for the appetizer.
Overall, although it wasn’t «amazing,» we left with full and happy tummies.

LOVE THIS PLACE! Any time I am in the area I stop in here. Great food, Great price, Great service! I wish it was closer to home. It’s hard to find really great, consistent quality Chinese food. This place is top of my list. 5 Stars!

For the price, ambience, and location of this spot I would say it’s a pretty solid place to eat. Honestly I just stopped in here because I always get gas at Safeway on my way to Bend. Its pretty much a hole in the wall as far as décor, etc. and the service isn’t anything special but wasn’t terrible either. I eat a lot of Chinese food and this is definitely more of that Westernized lunch special type of spot. But of course there’s nothing wrong with that at all! My entire meal was $ 10 including a drink and my tip. And the quality of food was good, much better than any other Chinese fast food I’ve ever had. Everything was quick and easy too, which is exactly what I want when I’m on the road. I’ll totally be stopping in again on my next trip through!

I am always looking for decent Chinese food in the Portland area. Our family has a cabin up at Mt. Hood and we usually stop somewhere for dinner on our usual drive up on Thursday evenings. We found this place by accident and I am very pleasantly surprised!
It doesn’t look like much on the inside (the lighting is pretty awful) but the staff was very friendly right off the bat and the booth was comfortable.
The hot and sour soup was really good especially on the miserable, rainy day that we were there. I love hot and sour and this did not disappoint.
I ordered the chicken with tangy sauce and it was GREAT. Also a huge portion which I love, I always like to take some home and make omeletes with my leftover chinese food… so good. My husband got a combo meal with fried shrimp and chow mein, very tasty also and again huge portion.
So glad we’ve found a new place to stop off for some good Chinese! Nice people working there always encourages me to come again and they were very sweet.

«You get what you pay for» perfectly describes Wu’s Garden. Prices are cheap for lunch specials — around the same prices as Panda Express — and have somewhat better food quality, while maintaining a «Chinese American» restaurant feel.
My biggest complaint would be the service. The server was fighting with a family behind us over what they had ordered, and you could hear her yelling in the back afterwards. It made for a less than comfortable environment.
The soup was less than satisfactory. I got the Hot and Sour soup that came with the lunch special. It looked like they had taken some heated up sauce and put cat food in it. Rather unappetizing, I was even more disappointed when it tasted as bad as it looked.
That being said, for $ 6.25 I received a rather generous portion of food that, while not the best tasting, was definitely filling and worth the money. If you are willing to risk poor service and want good food for little money, this is your place. Otherwise, I suggest trying something else.

We are always looking for good Chinese food and this didn’t make it. The meat was old in my orange chicken. My daughter said it was the worst she had ever had. So proceed with caution.

Terrific food! Never had a bad meal. Great prices, tons of food, keeps me going back year after year.

LOVE this place. Never packed, food is quick and the the quality AND quantity are unparalleled. Whether I’m getting dine-​in or to-​go, it’s always fast. I’m a sucker for the #6.

If it has not been done already I am sure it will soon; an author creating a travel guide based entirely on places to eat that seem absolutely not worth noticing, but exceed expectation. If someone does Wu’s Garden will be in the opening chapter.
Wu’s, named after the owner, is a cozy little dining experience in a strip mall of food establishments. The staff is welcoming… most of the time… and the food is prepared very quickly.
Please know if you are looking for truly authentic Chinese cuisine you should stop now. Go elsewhere. This is the place you visit when you want that vibrantly coloured, intensely sweet yet tangy, and deep fried in sesame oil, goodness that we all in the North American continent grew up with under the name «Chinese food».
The experience with the food alone is satisfying, portions generous (you will get a second meal to take with you due to portion sizing!), but the second experience here is the ambience. This place has everything you think of when it comes to a sitcom Chinese food restaurant. Generally you will be greeted by someone for whom Chinese is their first language, and the staff all treat each other (and the regulars) like family. You also have the classic characters; the older waitress that’s been there long enough to know everyone, the young host that thinks Abercrombie is formal wear and he’s cool because he has it, the owner with the BMW so modified Germany has declared his specific model as «made in Japan» and it’s on the cover of the next Need For Speed installment, and the hard working newer waitress that’s trying to outwork everyone and prove herself.
It’s entertaining, comical, good food, good company, and a nice break from the sometimes pretentious foodie environment our city attracts. I wouldn’t recommend this place for an anniversary dinner, or where you take someone to impress them. I would recommend it for those nights you don’t want to cook, need a meal that’s very reasonable in price but the quality is consistently great, and you just want to relax.
Order some General Tsao Chicken, Sesame Beef, and a Tsing Tao to wash it down. Kick back and relax, you’ve earned it.

For some reason I keep ordering take out and I am disappointed every time. I have tried all three tofu dishes and the tofu is pink! Very unappetizing. It’s very close and convenient but not worth the effort and $. I will not be going back.

As I’ve mentioned in another review, my hubby and I are constantly on the lookout for awesome Chinese and have been let down in Portland time after time —
This is where it ends.
We (3 of us) ordered take out: General Taos, Veggie Chow Mein, steamed broccoli, crab rangoon and hands down, the best effing egg rolls I’ve ever had in my life. They tasted like they were coated in Popeye’s Chicken breading and the guts just melted in my mouth.
Half way decent Crab Rangoon/​Crab Puffs have been super tough to track down, but not any more. They were fluffy, crunchy and actually FULL of crab.
I’m sorry SafeWay, but this will now be our Sunday ritual purchase. They just blew you out of the water.

Despite having eaten there twice, I still consider Wu’s Garden to be extremely mediocre at best. I’ve gotten takeout both times, and this place absolutely refuses to get portable containers appropriate for liquids. Even though soup is included with the meals, they just jip you soup if you’re to-​go, because they don’t want to invest in liquid-​friendly containers, however they already put all of their sauces on the side in regular chinese containers then just double bag them and pray that you don’t complain too much when your car ends up covered in Almond Chicken gravy or Sweet & Sour sauce.
As if that frustrating bit wasn’t enough, the food itself is bland, boring, and the ‘pork fried rice’ is none of the above (the pork is just tiny chunks of the bbq pork included free with all combos, and the rice isn’t fried, it’s just regular white rice with a couple veggies in it and some egg). What kind of chinese place gets FRIED RICE wrong?
I’ve eaten here a couple times now, only because of it’s location (at the top of a giant hill, I live at the bottom of said hill, and there’s a serious lack of chinese food around Troutdale/​Wood Village), however every time I’m disappointed that it’s not better. «Well, it wasn’t awful» I tell myself, however that clearly isn’t enough to warrant anything but a blunt review. The first time I ate there I got extremely violently ill, and was still brave (or stupid) enough to go back and feed my whole family with their food, however it was still just as disappointing (although thankfully didn’t make me ill this time). I wonder what their food score is, because it definitely isn’t advertised anywhere in the front like I thought they were required to do by law (looked it up, an 86, yikes —
).
If I continue to eat here, it’s because there’s a lot of mediocre chinese in Portland, and this is the closest, however my true love is Canton Grill off 82^nd (though their noisy karaōke scene is obnoxious).
