I often judge an(American) Chinese restaurant by the sauce they put on egg Foo Young. Sure enough, this was the weird light brown gravy that looks like it came from a can, rather than the rich, garlicky sauce it should have. On the other hand, the sliced roast pork appetizer did have that good sauce, which I used instead(although it was definitely on the too salty side). I don’t know what that rice was that accompanied the egg Foo Young, but pork fried rice it was not. Vaguely orange colored, flavorless rice is more accurate. Lastly, I ordered Subgum Crispy Wonton with chicken, shrimp, & pork. Tasty, if a bit salty. Crispy wontons were definitely soggy wontons. Delivery had a hard time finding my place(they aways do, even when I’m very specific), so food arrived not very hot. Also, they charged $ 1 for delivery, even though I live walking distance away. Is there ANY good Chinese food in Troy? In the Capital District? I miss NYC china town!

Good food. Prices are decent. Delivery is very slow. I revoked the«pick up» option if ordering. Food always send to be fresh. Also a regular spot for us to get dinner.

This place is «ok». There aren’t many decent Chinese places in Troy so it’s not really fair to compare them to anyone. We’ve ordered from here a few times and all the food is fair. Nothing that makes me go back, it’s more of a last minute, easy, accessible and quick meal.

We’ve ordered from Green Shell for 3 years and loved them. In the last 6 months, it appears they are under new management. The recipes have changed, and they can never seem to get our order right, even if we give the the specific number for the item on the menu. Since the change in management, each time we’ve tried to order a dish steamed from their«special diet menu» with sauce on the side it’s showed up deep fried & covered in sauce. It happened again tonight, and this is the last straw, we won’t be ordering from them again.

Green Shell is the type of restaurant that makes me feel conflicted about even reviewing it. For one thing, I would say that my experience was overall average, but it was average in the case that there was something extremely good about it and something extremely bad about it. To start off, I dined in the day I had Green Shell. With a small area with five tables and a couple more chairs, it was an awkward dining experience. When I got my order(General Tso’s Chicken Special with Egg Drop Soup), it was served to me with a plastic tray, not very unlike something you would get at a school cafeteria or an outdoors fair. I was not impressed. The final thing was the food. The General Tso’s Chicken and the Pork Fried Rice was not that bad. I was pretty impressed at the time. However, the Egg Drop Soup was a completely different experience. Unlike the Egg Drop Soup that is served in RPI’s Commons Dining Hall, this Egg Drop Soup I received was cold. I didn’t know whether to be amazed that RPI serves something better than a restaurant or disgusted over my cold Egg Drop Soup. It wasn’t like the Egg Drop Soup made some journey all the way to my table. I was eating it at the premise of where they«made» the Egg Drop. There is absolutely no excuse for something like that. Next time, I’ll be wise enough to take the soda instead of the soup.

This place is really bad… I use to order from this place just because it was cheap and offered delivery services. The location is dirty and the food doesn’t look like it can be trusted either. I’ve ordered many types of food here hoping to find something i’d like. General Tso was good… don’t think that anyone can fail that one. This place is good for having the latest hours compared to other chinese take-out places.

I gave this place another shot and it wasn’t that bad. However the Wonton Soup was a little watery, and the wontons had little to no meat. The the egg rolls were okay and i enjoyed my pork lo mien. It had a lot of veggies in it.

I really like this place. Of all the Chinese take-outs, this one is pretty much the best. I usually order the Steamed Pork Dumplings(love the sauce that comes with it) and the Chicken Chow mein. I also like their Chicken Lo mein. Super fast service-in ten minutes your food is ready to go. Call ahead if you don’t want to wait inside. Friendly service. Good food at cheap prices.

No stars would be a better option. We ordered delivery from the Green Shell last night and will not make this mistake again. We had enjoyed the food and service in the past but there has been a change and it’s not just food quality. Our order arrived within the quoted 45 minutes. Upon opening our order there was no mustard. Not one packet. I called to ask if their driver could bring some on his next delivery. The person who answered the phone told me «you no ask for mustard, how I supposed to know what you want. I give you duck sauce & soy sauce cause you no ask for mustard.». So I asked if the driver may bring some and this person repeated what she(?) just said two more times, louder each time. I told her I did not know that mustard requires a special request because it never did previously. The person on the phone got really loud and repeated the line about not asking for mustard and said she can’t read mind 2 or 3 more times. We order from them about once a month and always received mustard with the food. OK rude staff enough about the mustard. The shrimp lo Mein sucked. Tasted burnt, shrimp were burnt, no seasoning, no sauce. Ordered large shrimp lo Mein and it came in small plastic container half full. No more Green Shell. At least 3 other options nearby.

I love chinese food and when I first moved to the area I tried every place in town. By far my favorite was Green Shell. Their food is excellent, their prices are fair and their level of customer service and professionalism is astounding. I highly recommend ordering from them and they have such fast delivery too!

Green Shell looks like the typical Chinese takeout restaurant in a shopping plaza(Troy Plaza), next to Radio Shack. The place is order at the counter with open kitchen and there is table seating for eating in. This restaurant is pretty clean. The food here is pretty good, with good portions and reasonable prices, most dishes priced under $ 10, special dishes $ 8.25-$ 11.95. I used to eat here for lunch quite a bit when I was taking classes in the area. I still stop in here for lunch takeout whenever I’m in the area. The menu offerings include a good selection of the standard Chinese dishes including Cantonese, Hunan and Szechuan cuisines. The menu states 100% vegetable oil and NOMSG. 50 Lunch Specials(served with pork fried rice and choice of soup or can of soda) are offered for $ 5.25 plus tax. 11:00AM-3:30PM(after 3:30PM, no soup & soda). 29 Special Combination Plates(served with pork fried rice & egg roll) are also offered $ 6.75-$ 7.95. For lunch specials, I enjoy the L4 Shrimp Lo Mein, L29 Scallop with Garlic Sauce, and L43 Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, which are very tasty and served with a light colored pork fried rice with big chunks of tender roast pork, sprouts, & scallions in a durable round microwavable container(I reuse those containers to pack my lunches). The wonton soup choice is pretty good, which has 2 big wontons filled with ground pork in a clear chicken broth. The service here is prompt and I usually can get my order in 5 – 10 minutes. 10 percent discount with college ID(takeout only) DELIVERY: $ 10 minimum

The portions are good sized, the General Tso’s chicken was really good(as others have mentioned). The delivery was fast & the driver was friendly. Overall, for Troy this seems to be the best choice for Chinese takeout :)

Great fast delivery around Troy, NY. Really flavorful food. We often order the BBQ ribs, various Lo mein, Tofu dishes and chicken and broccoli. When you call they are always courteous and you get a good portion for what you pay. I am really satisfied with their food.

Moo shoo is my favorit chinese food, they do not make the best Moo shoo. so I ordered here once and then didnt go back for a while, and have since learned they do just about everything else really well. They make a chicken in vegetables in a nice brown sauce we love. good stuff all around, work on the moo shoo.

Take out lunches are large and lunch specials cheap. Excellent food with large portions so you can eat only half. Woman who runs the checkout is delightful. One man there, however, and I’m not sure if he is the owner, is very dour… kinda glum and depressing. Maybe he just doesn’t understand English that well or something. The food does make up for putting up with him. They do not give you tap water to drink, so you have to buy it if you want some. The lunches do come with a soup or a drink.

I’m no longer a student at RPI, but this was my favorite chinese take out place. I became a frequent customer my sophomore year, and regularly ate here until graduation. When I would walk in, they asked what I would be eating today? General Tso, Sweet and Sour Chicken, or Sesame? They knew me so well, they could even tell it was me when I would order on the phone. My favorite dish here was General Tso’s. The sauce had something in it that made it unique and delicous. The portions here were just large enough to feed me, and they came in reusuable microwavable containers(not stryrofoam like lee tang up the road). Their fried rice was also better than lee tangs(ie it actually had flavor). Their price is competitive(~5 for a lunch meal) and the family that runs it has always been super nice and friendly to me. If you’re an RPI/Sage student, I definetely reccomend this over any other chinese take out place.
