I had Kelsey doing my hair today for the first time and wow! She followed my directions exactly to the letter. I will be going back, it’s nice that she is chatty like myself so we never had any uncomfortable silences. Fun girl. Would highly recommend this place to everybody.

Kelsey is not only entertainingly witty, adorable and personable but the girl knows how to do hair! If you are looking for a fabulous hairstylist she is it! I am personally licensed as a cosmetologist and practice part time and I have always walked away feeling 110% happy with the outcome of my hair! I highly recommend Miss Kelsey!

Everyone is super nice here and Brittani did an amazing job on my hair. My last stylist left me with a crummy cut Brittani fixed it up to look perfect! She gave me exactly what I asked for and she asked questions throughout my appointment to make sure she was giving me a style I liked. I love my new haircut and I had a great experience at the salon. My appointment was in the evening, just after work, so the glass of champagne Kelsey offered me on arrival was just what I needed. Not to mention the essential oil head massage that came next!!! Kelsey is so sweet, attentive and talented. She sifted through my drawn out ramble of past haircuts and my indecisive explanation of what I wanted, and turned that into the beautiful haircut she gave me today.

I live in San Antonio, Texas and have gone to the same hair stylist for years. Because my husband and I spend so much time in Truckee in the summer, I needed to find someone to cut my hair in California. Today I had the most wonderful experience at Coupe Sixty-​One. Melissa Cox gave me one of the best haircuts I have ever had! I have very difficult hair and it is very difficult to cut. For this reason, I was worried about going to someone other than my regular stylist. If the truth be known, I may now have to fly to Truckee monthly to get my hair cut! Melissa is a master stylist and the owner of Coupe Sixty-​One and she gave me an unbelievable haircut! I cannot say enough good things about Melissa’s expertise and artistry!

Everything I read in the Unilocal reviews is true. Not only did Melissa do an outstanding job with my hair color she took extra time to trim and style my very thin hair.
The entire experience was wonderful starting with a mini-​neck massage accompanied by scented oil, then I was handed an iPad for my entertainment. While my hair was being conditioned I received a hand massage.
I also like the convenience of booking appointments online. The location is cool too, several good restaurants and a small wine tasting room are in the same location.

Had to update my review since I started seeing Melissa for all my hair needs. Melissa is a genius. I have never ever liked my naturally straight, limp, fine hair but since Melissa has been cutting and coloring my hair, I’m actually starting to love it! Melissa always has a new fun idea for my color (probably because this salon strongly encourages and participates in ongoing eduation). They are an Aveda salon now but still carry a lot of the incredible Davines products that you won’t find anywhere else around here (that I know of). Anyway you’re in good hands no matter who you see here, all the ladies are awesomely amazingly talented!

Carrie did a great job on my hair. I saw her for a blowout before my birthday dinner, and she was fun, professional, and skilled, and got my hair done quickly… nice to be back to my vacation so fast! I will definitely be back next time we visit. The salon was clean and very attractive, with a cool eco-​chic vibe and great products. It’s nice to have found such an excellent stylist and salon for vacation blowouts!

Like other reviewers, I used to drive all the way to SF to get my hair cut. Today I decided to venture out closer to home, and I wasn’t disappointed. From the ease of booking my appointment online (you can pick exactly what you’d like from a menu, then read your stylist bios, then search their calendars — awesome!), to the mimosa they poured when I arrived, then finally the finished product (Balayage highlights and a cut) I was blown away.
Melissa Cox, my stylist and the owner of the salon, is very knowledgeable, and well trained. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for city quality up here in Tahoe.

I’ve been living up here full-​time since late 2012 but continued to drive to Palo Alto to get my hair done as I was too scared to try anyone new :) Once you find an excellent colorist — you keep her (or him)!!
But after hating the traffic/​drive for 2 years, I finally decided to try a place up here. I found Melissa and Coupe Sixty-​One on Unilocal (excellent reviews AND a pic of bubbly :0) and I have visited her 3 times now and have loved each visit/​end result.
She listened and understood my fear of the «too much blonde» syndrome that seems to happen up here and swore she would never push that :) She understands when I describe what I want and duplicates it.
She (and everyone else there) are super friendly and it’s a fun place to get your hair done. Also — a mimosa while I get my hair done! Yay :)
And now she works with Aveda and offers their products which I love.

Brittani Murray was the MOST amazing, sweetest, cutest, best styled hair stylist I’ve ever gone to. I booked an Ombré and a haircut on a whim, and decided to spice up my hair. She brought me tea, didn’t mind that I had to work while she did my hair, and she did the MOST amazing job! I don’t really color my hair often (maybe once every 2 – 3 years), so its important that its subtle and will grow out well. Brittani achieved this perfectly. My hair is also long and straight — and I prefer a low maintenance hair cut that allows it to dry on its own but look beautiful (but I have a lot of fine hair, so I don’t like it to look too straight at the bottom), she achieved this as well. She is a hair genius. I live in SF, and get a ski lease in the winter up in Truckee, but will make weekends trips to have her do my hair. The locals are lucky to have her. Thank you!

The ambiance, staff and my haircut were all flawless! Coupe Sixty-​One is a great salon that I cannot wait to come back to. Melissa has been cutting my hair for years and yet again she out did herself. I went in with long hair and left with fun, short hair. She even added some colored extensions for some flair! I definitely recommend this salon to anyone who is in need of some hair love.

A 50 percent off grand opening discount caught my eye a few months back (check out the site for current specials!), and I’ve been so happy with the cuts, styles and blow outs that I’ve had with Melissa at Coupe Sixty One — love the eco-​ethos, products, feel of the salon — but more than all of that the great cuts and taming of my wild, thick mane! Don’t hesitate, book it — a cut, style, whatever your need.

After moving to Truckee last year, I made an appointment at Urban Angels and had the good fortune to end up in Melissa’s chair. During my first appointment she was able to understand things about my hair that other long time stylists never had, and she gave me one of the best hair cuts I’ve ever received. Since then, I followed Melissa to her new salon, Coupe Sixty-​One! The space, products, and staff are awesome and I love that the salon is eco-​friendly. I have very thick, curly, and sometimes course and frizzy hair, and Melissa handles it like a pro.
The standard price point is high for a Truckee salon, but Coupe Sixty-​One offers great first time client deals and referral and rewards programs. I highly recommend checking them out!

Many years ago I went to a salon in my area. Prior to my visit I had not colored my hair in well over 2 years and had long dark «virgin» hair. I made an appointment to add blond highlights with a stylist I had never met. I left the salon with my «blonde» highlights but definitely not satisfied. (I have quotes on the «blonde» because it was more like a copper than blonde.) My hair felt overprocessed and was afraid the «blonde» highlights were going to break off.
After spending as much as I spent in the salon for my visit, I went back to see if there was anything they could do to «correct» the color/​highlight session from the other stylist. I explained what happened and was immediately offered to meet a new stylist to «fix» my hair. I was then introduced to Melissa as the «color expert» and she made my hair look and feel amazing! I have now trusted Melissa with my hair for over a decade. She has seen me through many different styles from long to short and many different colors of the rainbow. My hair is thick and coarse so needless to say it is very hard to work with. Melissa never let that stop her. She is an expert at getting my dark brown (ok, it’s practically black) hair to blonde without it breaking off AND feeling silky (WHAT? Is THAT really possible?). She would never let me leave the salon until SHE was satisfied with the way it looked.
I was seriously upset when she decided to leave the industry. I am so glad she has come back and that she has opened her new 100% Eco-​friendly salon. This salon represents so much of what I know of Melissa: her giving heart, her thirst for enlightenment, and her creativity. If you’re in the area (or planning to be), I would definitely recommend making an appointment to come and visit the salon.

Having Melissa back in the biz is fantastic! She is the best hair dresser. She has been doing my hair for over ten years and I’m even driving from the Bay to get here! Melissa is wonderful and always willing to accommodate her clients, she squeezed my cousin in for a blowout!
Her new salon is so great. They are totally organic and environmentally friendly. They are very warm and welcoming. They even have snacks and wine.
