No brainer for me. They carry cane sugar Dr. Pepper for $ 3.99. First off it is hard to find this great tasting soft drink. Second, in Los Angeles the three locations that carried it(Pavilions, Target and Ralphs – the latter two no longer carrying) all charged $ 4.99. Anyway, the store visit was great since I got everything we needed for our holiday week including fried chicken which was great, charcoal to grill our New York steaks and shrimp. Store well stocked and friendly service. They didn’t have the kids snow gear we were looking for, ie. the right size boots but we did get cane sugar Coke so all good. Moral of the story if you are a Pepper fan, GO!

What a great store!!! The employees were very friendly, the selection was a pleasant surprise, and the prices are pretty good. The beer and wine selection is great, and there were many organic produce options.

If youre not into the alternative New Moon and youre tired of the ever present Safeway, then is maybe the last grocery resort in town. Sure it’s a bit smaller and older. You may fine some better deals on things here and maybe worse in others. Im more into the fact that some places dont carry what the other does. Variety wins. In this case the bbq meats happened to be on sale and a grilling we went

We are very happy with this store. Since Save Mart moved into the old Albertson’s location, they have modernized the store and have added lots of products which we are used to buying at a grocery store. The meat department manager was busy, but when I asked him a question about turkey, he came around the counter and helped me pick out my Thanksgiving turkey. Each and every time I shop there I can’t get through the store without employees asking if I found everything I wanted. The employees are very helpful, but I don’t think the deli and bakery manager has good communication with the people in that department. I asked for my favorite pistachio muffins because there were none on display and was told that she didn’t know if the manager was ordering them anymore. Also, when I asked about my husband’s favorite deli snack, chicken gizzards, the employee in the deli never heard of them before. She called her supervisor and he called the manager of the store and was to, d there were some in the meat department. I to, d them I wanted the fried ones from the Deli that I get from most of the Save Marts in Modesto. He said he would have the deli manager call me, but it never happened. If anything is negative about the store is poor communication. Another thing that management might think about is the large stocking carts being used in the produce department. When they are being used there or in the floral department, it makes it difficult for customers to navigate those departments. Also, when I was there the other day, the girl in floral was tearing down a display that was actually nice and left pots and plants out in the aisle while she was chit chatting to the produce guy. With the plastic ban in Truckee, the service clerks are a bit confused about how to load your groceries. Thr management needs to train them on how to load the bags we provide. It is sad to have the lemon meringue under canned goods! So, if the communication is improved and the baggers trained, I would have given this store five stars as they carry so many more brands and options than Safeway. All in all, I will still go to Save Mart instead of Safeway because the aisles are wider and the checkouts are much more efficient.

A typical Save Mart we stopped by for food and snack. Customer service is ok from my only one-time experience at this location.

I would recommend this over safeway! The store is much cleaner and nicer. The food is better and in the bakery it is more fresh! Safeway is always packed with tourists and long lines, I would definitely recommend over safeway; with the same prices if not better.

Just have to give this place some respect real quick. Every year I go camping I always run into this place real quick and grab some penalty liquor. What is penalty liquor you ask? Well when we play card/dice games the first loser has to take a shot. So this year I grabbed a bottle of Rumple Minz and Wild Turkey. EWE! The guy at the cash register was super friendly and the workers in general at this place are always nice.

I go here more than Safeway. It’s not as «classy»… but I still prefer it for some reason. Say hi to Bruce when you’re there!

I’m actually surprised how much I like this store. I have always experienced friendly service, great prices – fresh berries, leg of lamb – and find things here I can’t find at Safeway. Go figure!

Safeway may be slightly more expensive, but i’d prefer to spend the extra few cents just for the more pleasant ambiance. This store just needs to be redone entirely. Gut it and do it over. The staff is… unresponsive. Comatose, even. Maybe I just caught them on a few consecutive bad days(seems unlikely). Although, to be fair, i’d be a little dreary too if I were working in that cave. It’s just kinda old and creepy feeling. Plus, the layout is all weird and the aisle’s are too narrow. Sorry, Even though Safeway isn’t exactly heaven, i’d still go there over Save Mart. *shrug*

This place took over the spot Albertson’s used to be. It’s a decent alternative to Safeway in Truckee if Safeway is out of things but Safeway has MUCH better pricing. I’m sure they have their regular sales, etc but didn’t seem to be nearly as many or as good as Safeway has regularly. Plus I agree with the 2nd review — this place must use enough power to light up the store as Las Vegas does to power the strip. But it’s much cleaner and nicer than the old Albertson’s used to be. I would never buy anything there. So an improvement for sure. And definitely less crowded than Safeway which can be a complete nightmare on holiday weekends and/or good snow weekends.

this is a bad place if you don’t like bright lights. jesus christ its bright in here. i don’t necessarily think it’s cheaper or greater selection than at safeway, but its certainly less crowded. nonetheless, its one of your few options while staying in truckee for groceries, so it’s as good as anything else i suppose.

I feel like there are only two supermarkets in Truckee. This one and Safeway. Save Mart has definitely saved us during our yearly Tahoe trips, having cheaper meat than Safeway(2.99/lb tri-tip!), and also having kegs of sierra, fat tire, and other domestics which is crucial. Yes, kegs here are more expensive, but it’s better than lugging a 150-lb barrel of beer all the way up from the city. Plus I don’t know what the pressure change would do to the contents of that barrel. Probably nothing.
