Fun little shop to check out and you have to hand it to the owner for creativity and the variety of treats but the prices are ridiculous. Stopped in with my kids and 4 pieces of not so fancy chocolate cost $ 9. Dried fruit in melted chocolate wafers you can get from any grocery store and make yourself. I won’t be buying from there again.

I enjoyed the old fashion candy, and the chocolate truffles I bought here. I would return since I have a soft spot for chocolate. If you are in Trumansburg you might as well check it out for yourself if it’s a dessert of the chocolate kind you’re in the mood for.

We found this store on the Finger Lakes map we picked up on our way out of Bellwether Cidery and decided it was the perfect time for a sweet treat break. The store itself is cute, and the workers were really friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately… the chocolate left much to be desired. Not only was the chocolate WAAY too expensive(seriously, the imported belgian chocolate at Leonidas in Manhattan is cheaper than this place) and priced per piece instead of by weight, but even the store-brand candies were marked up from what you would pay in the grocery store. All the chocolates were clearly poured into a mold(not hand crafted at all) and many were sloppily removed therefrom… which is not to say that I demand hand crafted chocolates, but for upwards of $ 1.99 a piece, yes, I do. They had some interesting flavor concepts(mango jalapeño, pumpkin pie, etc) but none of the pieces I tried had really been executed well. The chocolate itself wasn’t creamy enough, especially the dark chocolate which didn’t even melt when I was holding it(which is super weird to me). Almost as if they were stale! The chocolate wouldn’t have been bad if it had come in box from Rite Aid. But for the price we paid, I wasn’t pleased. I do agree with John M. though — if you want something sweet, you’re probably better off stopping in here than a gas station and it’s always good to support local business.

Another small town great treasure I found in Life’s So Sweet. They have a pretty great assortment of chocolates, dipped fruits, truffles and other great candy. They offer tours of their factory but unfortunately the times didn’t coincide when we were traveling through the town. They do have their chocolates carried at several local wineries, and businesses especially in Ithaca, so you may stumble into them without even knowing. What I enjoyed about their chocolates was the flavor of the truffle was shaped like it. Say it was a raspberry crème, the chocolate mold was a raspberry shape, cherry was shaped like a cherry, and so on. This really comes in handy after you forgot what you ordered and don’t want to eat your lady’s. Got to love those visuals! Definitely a pretty cool place to stop and get a chocolate souvenir or two!

I’m also all for local small businesses and would really like to support this place… but the chocolates are all way too sweet. So much sugar it’s hard to appreciate the chocolate itself. Good for a serious sugar fix; proprietors are very nice, and I love seeing their stuff around the Finger Lakes, excellent variety of goodies — but if I’m hankering for really excellent chocolate, it’s a bit of a let-down.

This place is great! My husband and I were staying in Trumansburg for a weekend to enjoy the fall foliage, wineries and the beauty of the area. We popped into the chocolate shop just a few minutes before closing — but they were so friendly! They introduced themselves, and the woman indicated it was her daughter’s shop and both she and her granddaughter were working the counter. All the chocolates are handmade and they also have some items from other local stores too! They do have some of the more traditional chocolates you usually see — but also have really interesting ones you wouldn’t expect. The best part is that they are delicious — we bought a few different kinds and the quality was excellent. This is a great addition to the area and really fantastic chocolate. Even if you aren’t in Trumansburg, it would be worth the time to visit! Yum!

Hate to buck the trend but we were not terribly impressed. Cute — check. The woman who runs the place was very friendly and even recycled our empty soda bottles for us — check. «AWESOME»? — not so much. I tried one of the dark chocolate truffles and the wife had an almond bar of some sort. They were both good, don’t get me wrong, but I’m certainly not going to rush out and load up on sweets when I visit again. I have nothing but respect for someone who opens their own business, but I just didn’t think it was fabulous. Good yes — great, no — I’ve certainly had better. If you’re in town and craving something sweet, by all means support the independent rather than ducking into the gas station for a candy bar(it’s better than that no doubt). They also do feature some local items which is also cool, and she was really nice. It’s only been open for a short while, so I hope it grows into something truly unique and awesome.

It was a pleasant surprise from a little town. On a HOT summery day, we stumbled upon this cute. little chocolate store looking for something cold, something sweet(well, okay… it was the«free tasting» that drew my attention). Special of the day was ‘chocolate covered frozen banana’ and there, i was in chocolate heaven. Talking about ‘melt in your mouth, not in your hand’, excellent quality of chocolate. i especially like the fact that they use local products(try the cayuga ice cream). My personal favorite was the Aztec Truffle– it’s a dark chocolate truffle infused with chili power– definitely had a kick from the hot pepper but well balanced with dark chocolate, simply perfect. If you are ever in the area, stop by to try of their free sample and bag yourself some truffles!
