My Dr. insisted that I wear compression stockings and Legsmart was one of the three places she recommended for stockings. The person who fitted me put them on for me, but wouldn’t teach me how to put them on myself(I have trouble reaching my toes) and instead, suggested I have a neighbor help me. Sure, a neighbor is going to come over every day to help me put on my stockings! I bought two pair, and she«gave» me a couple of paper slippers to help them go on easier, as well as a couple of other inexpensive items. Oh, and they don’t give you the box the stockings came in, so unless you snap a picture of the tag so you can get the model # and size of the stocking, you can’t reorder them. After the sticker shock I experienced there, I went home and checked on line. I found the same stockings that cost me $ 115 at Legsmart online for $ 76. And the«gift» paper slippers? There is a pair in each box!

I’ve known for years that I would benefit from compression on my legs. I even tried some compression socks that I’ve bought online, and the three biggest reasons why I stopped wearing them were, 1. They were hard to put on, 2. They squeezed my toes uncomfortably, and 3. They needed to be hand-washed. What I really wanted was something that would go around my calves, but not squeeze my feet, and not need hand washing, but I couldn’t seem to find anything online that matched what I wanted. Well, after a leg infection, the dermatologist who was treating me wrote a prescription for leg compression, and referred me to Legsmart, telling me they’d be able to find just what I need. He was right. I went in on a Saturday afternoon, and the owner evaluated my legs, taking a few measurements, and talking(and listening to me!) about my situation. She got me some«silver socks» that go up to the knee as a liner. They’re reasonably easy to slide on, and don’t squeeze my feet. For on top of that, she got me some«wraps». They’re basically compression sleeves that use Velcro to close. Four big bands. They’re adjustable, and are easy to put on. So I got everything I wanted, and since they’re a registered health care provider, I can use the money in my HSA to cover the cost. After just two weeks, my edema is gone, and my legs are healed. I’ll probably need to wear compression for the rest of my life, but my needs may change as time goes on, and I will be returning because at this LegSmart store, I learned how much better it is to consult a professional than it is to try to do it myself on Amazon!
