If you, like me, are a library connoisseur who lives in midtown and has a short fuse with the modern convention of encouraging adolescents to be as loud as possible whenever out in public, it’s worth the drive out to Dusenberry-River for a little peace and quiet. DRBL is a tiny little branch tucked into an upscale strip mall, so if you get hungry while you’re working/browsing/reading, you can easily pop out for a bite to eat(and take a yoga class if you eat too much, and buy a new shirt if you spill something on yourself). In 2 hours of working here, I only felt compelled to shoot one dirty glance at a couple of senior citizens engaging in small talk literally 3 feet from the«Quiet Zone» sign. Other than that, everyone maintained appropriate library volume and I was able to write 1200 words with no other interruptions. Still no carrels, as far as I could see. I guess I’m the only person who misses them. I had no trouble finding a convenient outlet or hopping on the wifi, which, apparently, has the same name and password as other branch library wifis, so as not to confuse my laptop. I didn’t see a meeting room, which might account for some of the silence, but maybe it was just so quiet that I missed it. All around lovely atmosphere. It’s like another world up here. If this is your local branch, rejoice and be glad. One day maybe I’ll be able to afford to move out of midtown myself.

For such a small library, I was impressed. The staff was super courteous and they maintained the noise levels at ambient sound, even in the kids section. It is in a nice location near Whole foods and an outdoor Italian restaurant! I expect to be back during finals week/exam time when other libraries are swamped!

I have not visited other branches in Tucson, but this location appears well organized, clean, and easy to access. Signing up for a library card is easy if you have a local ID, and you can check out books, movies, and music right away. There are multiple self check out stations so there is no need to wait when checking out a new book. Also, the catalog is easily viewed online. You can search for and request that books be moved to your specific location or also find out which location has a certain item. If you have an e-reader, you can get access to a very large catalog as well and the checkout process that I have experienced goes through Amazon. Inside the library itself, there are many places to sit and read. There is a children’s area, a quiet area, a wall for waitlist books to be picked up, and computers you can sign up to use as well. If you are still buying books to read once, you should think twice and check out the Tucson libraries.
