When I worked at Petsmart 10 years ago we were told to break apart any pet food we threw out because the Chinese restaurant next door went though the trash. This was when Gourmet of China was at Pantano and Broadway. We still went to it when it moved. The food was always decent, even if the waitresses constantly asked if my niece who was a baby and had pierced ears and was dressed as a girl was a boy or girl. Every time. What I would like to know is if anyone knows what happened? Will we see Gourmet of China pop up somewhere else again or is it over for good?

This used to be the best Chinese in town many years ago. I’d say about 10yrs. The best buffet, especially sesame chicken and beef. Weird thing I used to do is take a baggie of the stuff home and freeze it to eat as a sweet treat. I’ll bet no one else does that! All of the food WAS wonderful. That was when they were located on East Broadway. Then they moved to Kolb road and I’m pretty sure they changed management and cooks. Bad move. The sesame beef/chicken, for instance, tasted like more of a ketchup flavor. The one good thing about this place is on your b-day month, they give you a buffet free when you buy one. Plus they had the best walnut shrimp and put it on the buffet only at Chinese New Year at the end of January. I remember one of the Chinese workers there telling me to cool it on filling my plate with just this scrumptious item and to save some for others(obviously since it was so expensive to make shrimp). My Mom and I used to pick the shrimp out of the shrimp and mixed veggie dish they had, may she rest in peace. I have yet to try them again, if I dare. I would like more opinions from others who tried them on Broadway and moved to Kolb. Maybe they have improved over the years. They are still in business. Please let me know:) I’ll give it 3 stars for the Kolb location to be generous but would be 5 for the Broadway location. I’ll post an update if I visit again.
