Quaint little mom and pop type place. The service has always been good and friendly. As far as the food goes they have the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had. They also do good burgers.

Their fish fry on Friday’s is a good deal, but breakfast is what they do well… mostly. Like the time when they set my plate down in front of me with potatoes that were black. Yes, I said black. They were clearly burnt and never should have left the kitchen. We pointed out our charred potatoes to the server. Her response: «We just started using a new kind of potato and that’s what they are supposed to look like.» I am hardly ever speechless but I didn’t know how to respond to an excuse like that. There have also been times when the menu or server stated one price and a different price came on our check. It’s not large amounts of money, but when the menu says they charge $.99 to add an egg to your Monte Cristo(or any sandwich) and they charge you $ 1.39 it’s just a little annoying. All this whining sounds like I don’t like Hummingbird and I really do, as you can tell from the four star rating. Breakfast should be simple, cheap and filling. Hummingbird delivers on all three counts. Service seems to be where they can lay an egg sometimes. Still, it’s becoming a go-to breakfast place for us.

I had heard good things about the fish. the first time I went they had closed early, and that was frustrating as I had come across town to go there, and so this time I called to make sure it was going to be open after my dr. appt. and to the right time they have listed. I was really glad we went. It was really good, my fish, and my husbands french fries. I had slaw and if I were them I would find a good recipe and leave out the raisins and curry or whatever and just make it the good old fashioned way. There are all sort of recipes out there. My group is going there so I sure hope you read this and take care of we can be either good or bad advertising. i kind of like the friendliness and chatter in the place. It is that kind of place. I asked about pies and I guess they dont make thier own. That is kind of dissapointing as we all get enough of the other bought ones. However all in all this was great and I want to see them do well. Back to the fish on Fridays, that is great. Try it, you will like it I bet. I hope the owners read this. I read the one about the gooey cheese. That is really important. I have to say I hate that stuff on a good hamburger.

I’m going for A-OK. I’m not dying to go back, but I’m not adverse to it either. While I was contemplating the menu there was a gentlemen wandering around(related to ownership somehow I think). At one point he stopped to look at us and then started talking about how good the burgers were — fresh ground beef, hand formed patties, etc. It was enough to convince me to give them a try. He was right. That was a good burger. The patty was excellent — good flavor and well seasoned. The toppings were fresh. Though the Rainbo bun and processed cheese were a bit disappointing in their average-ness compared to the rest of the ingredients. Ok, the cheese was more than disappointing. I seriously hate the prepackaged, sliced cheese flavor. Call it swiss/jack/cheddar if you want, but it still tastes like icky processed cheese. The side of fries were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The hubby’s Club sandwich was decent. Not nearly as good as the burger though. Now for the words of wisdom should anyone who works here or owns this place ever read this review. First, you should not, under any circumstances, sit in the dining room in earshot of customers and relay detailed stories about medical procedures. I do not want to know about what you had sliced and fused while I’m contemplating what to eat for lunch. Second, if your staff has time to sit around and listen to these stories then there should be plenty of time to learn the specials. The fact that the waitress had zero clue about the specials and had to stand half way between the specials board and the table and read the specials off from across the room is just not acceptable. Now I know its just a diner, I know, I get that, but still, is it too much to ask for her to know? I don’t think it is. Overall the staffing situation had a very unprofessional feel. Family owned diner or not, keep it professional guys, keep it professional.

A classic small family restaurant with attentive personal service and simple but inviting surroundings. The burgers are fresh and quite substantial. Great for a tasty meal anytime!
