It was during lunchtime at El Guero Canelo where the owner was handing out small samples of their churros. After taking a bite of that cinnamon heavenly goodness, I became addicted. I mean the taste and crispiness was absolutely phenomenal, who wouldn’t want more?! I immediately finished my lunch and rushed out to their cart to purchase a bag for $ 5.00. I finished the entire bag within 10 minutes and even went back to buy another bag before leaving. From my occasional visits, I believe they’re at the Oracle El Guero Canelo location during the weekends and usually if they’re not there I would be able to hunt – I mean find them at large events such as the Festival of Books and Tucson Meet Yourself.

It’s all in the name. This place is just a small food cart that serves only churros. If you’re looking for a pie or sweet empanadas, you won’t get it here. What you will get here are just out-of-this-world fresh churros. I showed up a little after 8 on a Friday night and ordered a bag of churros(8 to a bag) with a chocolate and cajeta dip. They have caramel, cajeta(a goat’s milk-based caramel), chocolate and white chocolate dips. Once I ordered they immediately started making the dough and placed it into their churro machine which forms the dough into its characteristic shape. The dough falls into a vat of simmering oil and within 3 – 4 minutes, your churros are done! They toss them in sugar and cinnamon, of course, and then you get handed these fantastic churros. A bag of 8 churros is $ 5, each dip is $ 1. If you want a whole bottle of cajeta, that’s $ 6. Chow down and make sure to lick the sugar and cinnamon off your fingers!

Located at a cart in front of El Guero Canelo. They have the freshest churros you can get. We are lucky to have this semi-permanent establishment available to us in Tucson! Please consider serving hot, melted chocolate in porcelain cups so we can enjoy a true Spanish churro experience. The churros are light, crisp and sweet. They are fried as you wait and the outer shell is superbly crisp while maintaining the chewy, but not gooey, center.

My boyfriend & I stumbled upon this cart during a food truck round up. Were we glad we did ! It just so happens, he knows the owner of the cart as well, so we got to try the churros for free.(; Let me tell you, I’m picky when it comes to my churros. It’s one of the main things I look forward to at theme parks! Fat kid tendencies, guilty as charged. So trust me, I would’ve just not written a review if I wasn’t a fan. These were AMAZING when they were fresh, and still FABulous when we ate the rest at home. The dough is made fresh daily, so you don’t have that freezer taste that just kills me. The batch we had were perfectly crispy and didn’t taste oily. They had the perfect amount of sugar and cinnamon so that they were sweet, but wasn’t layered thicker than the dough itself. The dough texture if what makes it or breaks it for me. These were crispy and flaky, but still soft and moist inside. I’m drooling as I’m describing it right now… Terrible for diets and figure watchers, because you really can’t just eat one… Sorry, I’m really not that sorry. I’d eat the whole bag if I didn’t HAVE to share. ;) Take them home and treat yourself with a scoop or two(or four) of vanilla ice cream. You’ll thank me later. I believe he said they were usually located next to the Guero on Grant, but they do go to the food truck round ups too. Go go go !

This became our dessert of choice when we were in town. Outside of El Guero Canelo on a Monday night the guy in this little cart called us over after our delicious karamelo and Sonoran hot dog. I absolutely love churros so when he started selling me on it, I pretended to hesitate nonchalantly… Then he was like here’s a free one and it was on. We got a big bag for $ 5 and it was awesome. You could tell it was fresh and made from scratch and the cinnamon coating was yummy too. I will always love Disneyland churros as my number 1, but just churros comes in a close second.

It was my first time visiting Tuscon and I had just walked out of El Guero Canelo after eating amazing Sonoran-style hotdogs. Saw the Just Churros trailer and couldn’t resist trying them. They were awesome! Best churros I’ve ever had. They make them from scratch, so they don’t get any fresher or better. I know this because I had to wait for a fresh batch. I didn’t mind the short wait because, not only are the churros great, but so are the two people who make and serve them. Must try while Tucson! One thing to note, they aren’t always on Oracle Street just outside of El Guero Canelo. I think they are just there on the weekend. May want to find out their location before going during any other time of the week.
