Last time I was here was 20 years ago, I now remember clearly why it’s been so long and will know better to be back in another 20. We had reservations for a large party of 18. They did a great job getting us seated on time but from there it was total chaos. The ordering process is up to you as nobody tried to explain what they do or what you get when you order a meal. We had 18 people asking questions with the ridiculous volume that brought us to yelling to be heard. With the heaters blazing and the grills fired up we did a lot of stripping of layers to get comfortable. I ordered the Troy Roll which was amazing but for $ 13 it would have been nice if it was a little bigger than a tootsie roll. I have never seen miniature sushi before and I ordered it as my dinner which was a bad decision. My wife had the salmon which consisted of three small strips and unfortunately was over cooked. By the time the chef was done with his show, the rice and salmon were cold. Everybody started picking so by the time we finished we had vegetables for desert. $ 26 for a plate of scraps that without the sauces they supply, was pretty much bland. One dinner, one miniature specialty roll, 3 drinks, automatic 18% gratuity for a waitress that was non existent, and tax and I got to spend $ 80 to watch a guy spin an egg. He was a lot of fun and earned a tip from a few of us. I guess it works as it was packed to the point we had a stand still at the door trying to get out. I don’t get it as there’s a lot of really good places to get adult size sushi rolls and a hot meal. Check back in 20 years and I’ll give it another try.

We went here on a Wednesday night. The place was pretty packed. Very loud. We stood up at the front and waited for a couple minutes to be seated. I got lots of looks from the servers walking by but no one acknowledged us. Then, we walked into the restaurant and tried to find someone who would actually seat us — not a good first impression. Upon sitting down the tables were sticky, menus were filthy and splattered, and the sushi dishes were greasy and water-stained. It took quite a while for us to place our order of four sushi rolls — Las Vegas, Rainbow, Dragon and Playboy. Then, from the time we ordered it took about 40 minutes to get served. They brought out one roll, then the rest of our rolls ten minutes later. That was an annoyance — I don’t see why we couldn’t have gotten our food at the same time. The sushi was presented beautifully — gorgeous piles of different colors of masago on the Dragon roll! But taste wise, it was basically the McDonald’s of sushi. Too salty, drowning in sauce. Very mushy, over-cooked rice. Overall, a very disappointing meal. To add insult, we waited another ten minutes to get our server to take my card, then were subjected to a very nasty odor that smelled like toilets as they were cleaning a grill. To end the lovely evening we discovered our four rolls ended up being 60.00 after tip. For 60.00 I would expect an awesome meal. But this was an awful, sticky, slow, sloppy experience and I won’t be back.

A friend and I decided last minute on a Sunday night to go here for a teppan dinner. We were seated at a table with 3 adults and 2 children. We each placed our order and then the group of five announced that they were only ordering two dinners and splitting it amongst the five of them. We didn’t really think too much about it until the cook started splitting up the food. All three of the adults got as much or more food than we did, plus all three kids got a please full as well. We noticed our portions were about half of what we normally get. So basically they fed the whole family for the same price it cost us. Total rip off. The bill came to 80 dollars with our appetizers and needless to say we felt really cheated for what we paid for versus what we actually got. Not sure we’ll be back so soon.

I love this place. Mr An is always so sweet and took a pic with my mom and family for her birthday. Our chef was entertaining and nice. It was a great experience. Also, I worked for Sakura when I was in high school. I remember how hard mr an and the staff worked and know he cares a lot about his business and customers.

It’s better than Sakura I would say, the Teppan is entertaining and fun for birthday celebrations. Every time I go here, the hostesses don’t look too happy. I usually just seat myself at the bar area and get a beer. I would highly recommend the Troy roll, it’s the roll on fire! Besides that, everything else on the menu seems OK.

I went here with a group of friends for celebrity chef night several weeks ago, and it was one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time. The chefs were fun and creative, Mr An was there making his rounds and talking with all of guests. They played some great music, it was a fun, fun time! The food just never stopped coming, there was sushi and miso soup, and perfectly cooked veggies, the shrimp was cooked in butter — I’ve honestly never had shrimp that tasted that good before, steak, rice and more! I left stuffed, everything was just so delicious. The chefs had fun, aiming to get steak into your mouth, and throwing fake ketchup on you. This place is a great place for a date night or celebration!

This was by far the best Asian food and dining experience I have had in Tucson. Mike the teppan chef was great and so was the courteous owner, Mr. An who made it a point to greet our party on my girlfriends birthday. Highly recommended.

I swear I already wrote a review… But I’ll do it again. Had two toddlers with us, and the look on their faces, fear mixed with amazement made it completely worth it to me… Service kinda of slacked, didn’t seem that busy. I am very picky about water, I know it’s not their fault, it’s location, but water is gross. So bad the sodas taste bad too. Our chef was great, friendly and funny. Food wasn’t really anything special. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back, but wouldn’t turn it down if friends wanted to go.

I’m only giving one star because it’s required. First, ordered a draft miller light and it was skunky. Then I told them about it and they agreed and I tried the blue moon on tap. That was also skunky. So I told them to give me a bottle of Miller. It was happy hour so their drafts were two dollars, so I assumed since I replaced it with a bottle they would just charge that amount. Nope they charged extra, since that wasn’t a happy hour drunk. That is just the start. Next was their happy hour menu. $ 5 for tempura green beans. They gave us 10 half sized long pieces. 2nd was the ahi tuna wrapped with a «special» mushroom, which was rubbery and tough. The portion was four half inch cube pieces for $ 7. That price was directly on the menu, but they charged 7.50. It’s not about the $.50, just the principal of it. It was completely empty at 3:30 Sunday, but had over 10 people staffing the place, which should have been a red flag. They have a huge bar area and not a single soul watching football, drinking or eating. Also their equally big dining area had zero patrons. Finally, the place smelled of mildew!

I was pleasantly surprised by my visit here. The atmosphere was cosy and not at all uppity like I expected. Our waitress was really friendly and warm and made us feel welcomed. I really enjoyed watching the chef make our food on the teppan and the food was yummy. I would definitely go back :)

Happy hour 4 – 7 is well worth the price. must get the spring rolls(best deal 3 $), the steak tataki, and similar but more cooked and pricier steak app is also a must try(as much as I would hate to split it due to the miniscule portion you almost have to with a 9 $ tag). Wished the sushi was on Happy hour, but the drink prices and drink quality make up for it. Get the sake cocktail with raspberry(5 $) and u absolutely cannot miss with 2 $ domestic beers and 2.5 $ japanese imports. Service was superb, speedy, smiling, and definitely not sore on the eyes…;) All in all this place puts other Japanese happy hours in the area firmly in a headlock, and if tweaked just a little, would secure the KO in the first few seconds. MmmMmm bravo Mr. An. P. S. this place prompted me to post my very first review on Unilocal,so glad it was a positive one.

Only reason 4 stars is because we had ordered sushi and had Teppan, and had to wait a while afterwards for our sushi to come. A large party who came after us ordered a lot of sushi I guess. Had the Troy roll which was awesome. Spicy and sweet, had salmon on top and presentation was beautiful! Had sashimi bowl which I will order again, the sauce was a mix between Ponzu and eel sauce. Yum! Teppan was very good also and a fun time, my daughter was scared at first but loved it, and fried rice was very yummy. Scallops cooked to perfection and they were actually fresh, not frozen. We went to celebrate birthdays and went on a Sunday afternoon. Actually was quite busy for summer slow season. We will be back for happy hour sometime, but keep in mind it is only in the bar not where the action is :)

Came her for Mothers Day last night for our first time! Lots of fire & excitement! Make sure to ask to sit in front of a chef. Our boys loved it! We took a lot of photos & videos. It was on the higher end of price so keep that in mind. Regardless we can’t wait to go back. Best Mothers Day dinner ever!

My friends and I love teppan and were referred to Mr. An’s. The service was average not great. Wait time was longer than expected and when the food was served it was less than expected for the popularity of the restaurant. We had higher expectations.

I was in Tucson visiting my sister, and was staying just two blocks up the road at the BW Inn Suites. Wanted to find a restaurant nearby, and we settled on Mr. An’s. Nice spacious restaurant with many Teppan-style seating/cooking modules and a full sushi bar. We were seated at a Teppan table with four other diners, and had the honor of meeting Teppan Chef Raul. He was such a great performance chef, with zany commentary, excellent skills, and cooked our shrimp, chicken, fried rice and vegetables to perfection. Server Kami was also beyond awesome, so sincerely interested in taking care of her patrons and ensuring that all was excellent. Ask for Kami, ask for Raul, and I guarantee you a five-star dinner. Also one of Mr. An’s sons came to the table to assure that all was well. Very caring family of serious restauranteurs.

This is a great restaurant for hosting events, having a celebration, or just enjoying a nice evening out with your significant other. Whether he’s serving individuals or catering to large groups, Mr. An delivers high quality food with a great taste. I have personally eaten here as part of a group event and as a party of two with my wife. In addition to great tasting food, the atmosphere really adds to the experience. The teppan chefs do some cool tricks, they take personal cooking requests, they’re friendly, and they’re not so intrusive that you can’t enjoy the meal. The service at Mr. Ans is not lacking at all. The owner and manager both have a personal stake in the restaurant and are around at all times physically walking through to ensure customers are always satisfied. If for whatever reason you aren’t satisfied, they’ll find a way to remedy the situation. If you are looking for sushi rolls, Japanese entrees, and even some Korean items, Mr. An’s is the place to go. It might be a little pricier than other competing locations, but the quality of both the food and experience is far above the competition.

This was our first visit and I have to say it was an amazing experience. My daughters 17th birthday and they made it great. From the time you walk in to the time you leave, the service is 5 star! They sang happy birthday and took a picture of our group, printed it and put it in a card for us! The sushi was excellent. I had the lava roll and my daughter the California roll. Yummmm. The teppan meal was delicious and the server and chef were great. We will be back again. Thank you Mr. An’s and staff for a most memorable night!

While we were waiting by the hostess stand, Mr. An came in, shook my husband’s hand, and greeted him warmly. Afterward, my husband remarked that 100% of the time he’s gone to any of Mr. An’s many restaurants, Mr. An has always been there. Then he wondered how many Mr. Ans there were. Like, is he a clone? How can he always be everywhere? This is a fun teppan place with a light-hearted atmosphere. We were seated quickly, and water, soup, salad, and entrees came out relatively quickly(it was a Monday night). Our chef was perhaps not the most dextrous teppan chef I’ve ever seen – he dropped the spatula a couple times, and also dropped an egg) but he was friendly and engaging. I found the soup a little salty for my taste, and only ate about half of it. The salad was fresh, but swimming in a sweet ginger dressing: there was literally about an inch of liquid in the bowl after the vegetables were eaten. When the chef came out, he started with garlic noodles. Normally I don’t eat pasta, but the garlic smelled SOGOOD. These were quite tasty. We all enjoyed our entrees. The steak was, by far, the tastiest piece of meat, tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. The chicken teriyaki was also very good. I felt that both the shrimp and the scallops could use some seasoning. They were well-cooked, particularly the scallops, which are easy to get wrong, but were a bit bland. Perhaps the best that I can say about this place is that my stepdaughter tried all the food put on her plate(I didn’t see her eating the grilled vegetables but she claims to have eaten a carrot) and didn’t hate any of it. In fact, she really liked the chicken and the noodles. So dinner was a major success from that end. The teppan is fairly expensive. You get a lot of food, though.

Bar, Sushi, Japanese Teppan, Steak. Great interior, great atmosphere, friendly service, nice teppan show, good sushi-somewhat different, better than the usual sushi you get everywhere. Sadly a little to highly priced.
