If I could give no stars, I most definitely would! We use to come here and get good food and good service. Today was different. We live far and we were craving this we ordered got home and were missing 2 burritos. The salsa had no flavor and I wasn’t aware we had to output own cabbage in our food!!! Very dissatisfied! They lost loyal customers.

These guys do carne asada tacos right. Fresh and juicy meat. Well appointed salsa bar. My friend got a burrito he loved the flavor, but he complained it was too small for the money.

Best tacos in the world. Tacos Apson can’t be outdone and I wish I could take it to Colorado with me. I’ll fly from Denver to Tucson for Tacos Apson.

The unmistakable aroma of meat cooking on an open grill hits you as soon as you walk in. There are only tables if you want to sit outside. Inside, you sit at the counter and order your taco, burrito, potato or torta made with any part of the cow you want: tongue, cheek, rib, stomach… not all for the faint of heart. There’s also asada, pastor and barbacoa for the less adventurous. I ordered an al pastor taco and their namesake, Taco Apson. Here’s when I warn you: all the ingredients are in Spanish, so be prepared to translate. What the hell is a hongo? I didn’t know when I ordered. It turned out to be a mushroom. Glad it was not some other weird part of the cow… Also part of the mix: asada, onion, green chile, cheese and bacon. I was able to translate most of those. Both tacos took a trip to the salsa bar and were garnished with salsa, pickled onions and cabbage. There were all the other usual salsa bar suspects: carrots, cucumbers, jalapeños, etc… but I showed restraint. I sat at the counter eating my tacos, wondering when I would have to pay. As soon as the man behind the counter saw I was finished, he asked me, «Otro?». Ah, I see, this is like nana’s house. They talk to you in Spanish and keep feeding you ’til you lapse into a food coma. Alas, the restraint kicked in again and I paid for my two tacos. It’s definitely out of my way to go here, but I definitely plan to return and work my way through the cow.

From the sons of the APSON, tacos apson are a delight. It’s like I’m in Mexico all over with real authentic tacos! Must try are the taco hass(asada, chess, and been chile) and cabeza tacos. This is the only place I know that still sells lengua tacos!

Amazing tacos! Almost identical to Sonoran tacos. The best part is you get your food almost instantly. They shave all kinds of tacos and even ribs. Way better than going to any«fancy Mexican» restaurant.

I travel 12 miles in heavy traffic for this place. I have never had a better taco north of Mexico than at Taco Apson. Fresh limes on the counters, flies, heat, tiny dining area, awesome food. Don’t let the look deter you. You’re not doing yourself any favors by not allowing your taste buds this treat. Don’t miss this place!

I really wanted to like this place. Saw the good reviews, they have great menu options, they’re cooking with mesquite charcoal, and the smells were awesome! However, the taste of the food was painfully bland. It didn’t taste bad, just… bland. I had three tacos one of tripa, carne asada, and al pastor. They all disappointed. The salsa also had no flavor, and looked pretty old. The tomatoes had that very red ripe color, about to go bad. I ordered one more thing, again, I wanted to give them a chance. I got the Gringa, a quesadilla with al pastor meat in it. That was pretty darn good. I’m sorry to say, but I will not come back. This place is way too far from me to give it another try, and the food truly let me down.

Not only does this taqueria sing for me, but also makes my boyfriends mouth water. I was showed this place by a friend and showed my boyfriend after he returned from Mexico. We love this place. The carne asada smell captures you from the parking lot. The open kitchen and fast hands is a sight to see. We got lengua, cabeza, tripas tacos. Carmelo(small quesadilla), and also the apson house named taco. Before heading out we ordered a quick tostada topped with asada, queso, y frijoles. The selection of meats and tortilla preparations are vast, so get ready for huge menu. People that comment on the greasiness of the food have obviously never had real Mexican food. The grease is present, but is far less than the dishes I have tried in Mexico. These guys are doing it right and I can’t wait to return.

Classic Sonoran taqueria in South Tucson. I want to like this place so bad — awesome menu with a variety of meat options, burritos, tacos, caramelos, hot dogs, etc plus a well stocked salsa bar with almost all the accompaniments you could want(only missing some grilled onions and jalapeños ;). It’s a similar layout to El Guero Canelo with inside and outside seating and has a similar menu. They also have the option of adding cheese, mushrooms, green chilies, and onions to a variety of menu items — score. However, Tacos Apson is just a little too«greasy spoon» for my taste. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t great. Upon first glance at my carne asada burrito, I could tell the whole thing was just soaking in grease. I could only get through half of it before giving up because it was overwhelmingly greasy. I saw the plates of a few other patrons as well, and their tacos and burritos were equally if not more greasy and messy… Now I know street food is notoriously known for being unhealthy, but this was beyond what I’ve ever seen… Maybe it was an off day or bad timing, but I’m not sure I’d want to go back :/

This place is awesome. Everything is prepared quickly and grilled to perfection. Must try the Taco Chino which is a golden fried refried bean taco that is so good and also the carne asada is juicy and tender and seasoned to perfection. The prices are decent and the staff is very friendly.

I love their food! Tacos are so tasty and burritos filling. The inside isn’t huge but you can sit outside. The guys working here are all nice! The beans are sooooo good and the plato asada always fills me up that I take my left overs. I enjoy watching them cook food while I eat or wait. Coming back!

Food was ok. Was hoping for something great. The service was pure manure. Criminals in aprons. Overcharged! He Said we ordered more than we did. They charge you after you eat in hopes that they can confuse and screw you over. Sucks!

I have to disagree with all the five star reviews for this place. We ate here with my sister in law and was not impressed. Clearly the place has a much more authentic feel than most Tucson taco shops when you walk in. You think you’re in for a treat when you smell the food but I left disappointed. I think it’s how they keep the food. Most places would cook to order or keep the food ready such that it’s juicy when they serve it. At this place they have the cooked meats in a pan on a grill. This makes the meat less than juicy when you bite into it. The beans have the consistency of a sauce and looked, I hate to say, awful. One of the tacos I ordered was tripe and my guess is they didn’t do a good enough job cleaning it because there should never be a chalky feel when you bite into a piece of meat. At any rate, good luck and enter at your own risk.

You know this is the taco shop that trumps all other taco shops when the authentically Mexican carniceria around the corner recommends them. The people who know meat are recommending where to get tacos they would eat themselves. Surprised it wasn’t more busy. C’mon Tucson wake up. Everyone was over at El Guero Canelo but this is the spot for best eats. The costilla razurado is a must order. It is meat off the ribs put into a taco form. One bite and you will immediately yearn for a beer with a lime in it. The smokey flavor and charred fatty bits scream backyard BBQ and demand cerveza accompaniment. The apson taco with it’s canned mushroom and melted cheese was also stellar. It was like a mini open faced quesadilla, Gooey, and excellent and a bit novel served on mini flour tortillas instead of corn.

Hmmm… not sure where to begin. I really, really wanted to love this place but… I just can’t. We frequent a place a couple of doors down(which is great BTW) so we were familiar with the location. It’s basically a taco stand with some indoor seating as well. Enticing grill aromas, small salsa bar with various toppings, and a varied menu with plenty of meat choices are offered. Between the 3 of us, we ordered the Hass tacos(carne asada, green chili, and cheese), the Barbacoa tacos(shredded, stewed beef), a Razurado taco(shaved, crispy rib meat), Sonoran Dogs and a Carne Asada plate. We also ordered the cebollas(grilled onions with salt and lime). And of course, I can’t ever forget my «Manzanita»(apple soda) when hitting up a taco stand. Tacos were maybe not the best, but tasty. The beans on the Carne Asada plate were especially good. The Sonoran Dogs(which they forgot to give us at first) were pretty much a greasy mess. And the cebollas? Still waiting to get them. Service was good, other than the couple of oversights. Another Unilocaler wrote about frustrations with employees not speaking English but we did not find that to be the case(I’m fortunate to be bilingual anyways, but just in case anyone was worried after reading another Unilocaler’s review). My issues with this place? The value and perhaps some of the food safety. The Carne Asada plate was $ 9, and the tacos averaged about $ 2.50 a piece. Kind of pricey for taco stand food in my opinion. Salsa bar and other cold condiments were not iced down enough and the food on the hot dog cart was just kind of sitting there(unattended for a long period of time) without coverings. For being a health inspector’s daughter, I’m pretty lax but this did make me cringe a bit. I did see a «to-go» deal on a family portion of Barbacoa(with fixings) that was reasonable and something I might do if I can forget about an issue or two one day.

Thanks to Trevor C’s review of the day for spreading the word out about this amazing Taco Place. without him I would have never gotten my grubby little hands on the best tacos in Tucson. I came here this weekend with my boyfriend around 3 pm, with good intentions on just getting a little snack, but our intentions went out the door as soon as we stepped in and the sight and smells of ribs and various meats roasting on the grill hit us. We ended up getting 3 tacos each, I am unsure what my boyfriend got because truthfully I wasn’t really paying too much attention to whatever he was doing, all I cared about at that moment was devouring my tacos. I ordered the lengua, the carne asada and the barbacoa. all were delicious. Meats were tender, juicy, and were devoured 2 bites at a time… yeah I’ll be back. to conquer those ribs next time.

I feel so lucky to have found this little gem. I have taken many people here(including chef Janos) and it has been universally agreed as the best tacos in Tucson. If there are better tacos, please let me know so I can try them! Hidden away in South Tucson, near Pueblo High School, you would easily drive by this without ever knowing it’s there. They have a weird sign that has a guitar on it and the building is narrow and unassuming. I was told be a friend of a friend of a friend to make sure and find this place sooner rather than later. The enthusiasm told me that something had to be very special about these tacos so I made sure to make it a destination. The interior is almost like an old school diner. You will not be impressed by a fancy looking place and it’s not new and shiny, but I really like that they have one counter with about 10 stools and a couple of chairs along the back wall. It’s small, but intimate. I recommend waiting for a stool at the counter. One of my favorite features is that by sitting at the counter you can watch the giant open pit barbecue where they are constantly grilling delicious meat right in front of you. The service is very casual and dry, but when someone cracks a good joke they lose the stone face and all break out in warm belly laughs. Now onto the most important part… the tacos. They have at least 12 different styles of prepared meat options with various extra ingredients. I have yet to have anything less than amazing. They also have burritos, hot dogs, potato dishes, etc. There is no shortage of delicious options. The stand outs are the cabeza, lengua, costilla(whole beef rib on the bone) and costilla razurado(shredded rib). I usually get one of each of these when I go. Their Sonoran dog is also fantastic. The only better dog I’ve had is Aque con El Nene. If you are a taco fan, this place stands above all the competitive. In a town known for tacos they are in a class of their own. This is a must visit restaurant and a great place to take out of towners for authentic and impressive meal.
