I tried this place a long time ago and liked it, but it wasn’t something I’d do often. Since we hadn’t been here in a long time, my husband and I decided to give it another try. We both ordered drinks off their cocktail list and minutes later were both told that they were out of the liquor needed for that drink. One liquor was spiced rum, so apparently they only carry one spiced rum. That was disappointing, but I got some wine instead. We both ordered pasta and it came out very quickly. The portions were on the smaller side and the flavor was mediocre. My favorite part was the fresh parmesan they grate over your dish at your table. I really wish they had fresh bread with the meal. That would make up for the smaller portions for me. I just think the price is too high for what you get. I do remember the pizza being very good, so maybe we’ll return someday for pizza, but not anytime soon.

I was such a big fan of this place and was happy to be a regular — however, ownership’s poor and abusive treatment of multiple staff members has me avoiding Mambo.

I’ve gotta say, very pleasantly surprised. ANDOLINIS is usually our go to spot, but decided we would try Hey Mambo for the first time. Was greeted by smoke/tobacco smell, and thought, «here we go.» However, once the food came out, I could tell these guys have their pizza down. Great job! Absolutely delicious.

Awesome food!!! We visited on a busy night but definitely got the shaft when it came to service. Not only did the food come out slow, but our server wouldn’t refill drinks and took a loooooong time to bring the check. Even a little effort would have let me give 5 stars.

It was ok. This is a hipster place. Could barely hear each other over the lady playing the fiddle(aka Violin) in our ear. However, our server was very nice and the service was very good.

I can’t say anything towards the food as I came in while they were actually closed between lunch and dinner. But the owner was very courteous and let us stay and drink. The drinks were great and strong! Between the drink menu and the service, this place is awesome!

Word to the wise: do NOT come here on a big BOK show night! They are not equipped for the crowd. Having said that, the pizza is delicious! We ordered the Diablo pizza. Pepperoni, sausage and jalapeño. Delicious. I can’t wait to come back — on a non-BOK show night. :)

It was ok. Cheese wasnt melted in my dish or my friends, service was nice, prices were a little high for what we got I though. Parking was kind of hit and miss.

Been a couple times. First time, early weekday, like a Tuesday night, place was very slow. Had a super solid meal — spaghetti with giant meatballs & some unexpected Cali cab, great service. Hung out at the bar with some locals & chatting with the bartender, woodfire cook & wait staff. Thought I found a solid spot while spending a few weeks on biz. Second trip was the night of some kinda big concert at Brady. The place was packed. Service was painful. Food was disappointing… Excellence is hard to sustain. If they can get that right, they could hang with the best in Brady Arts.

This is a great place to come for dinner. The service was excellent. The waitstaff was friendly and very helpful with regards to items on the menu. This may possibly be the best pizza in town. Large portions and plenty of toppings kept me full and happy. The seating is nice both inside and out. Prices were reasonable for the large portions of food you get. Definitely stop in for dinner!

Nice atmosphere, lovely brick wall, cool art work. Ordered Spaghetti bolognese and was disappointed. Sauce pretty good but the two meatballs were a ½ pound of dry meat each. They were reheated and cool in the middle. Dry and tasteless. Rather gross really. Not much pasta as the massive amount of meat took up the plate. Service was good. Price fair.

The food was awesome, the service was killer, the place was cool. Really though, the food was really well made and nicely plated. Also had a draft beer that was cold and filled to the top.

Love this place! Great service! Great vibe! Great food! The antipasto meat & cheese tray for an appetizer is a perfect way to start this Italian meal! Pizzas are full of flavor & way above your standard pizza joint! Love!

Nice service, decent patio but it’s shared with the cigar car, so be prepared to sit in cigar smoke! Food is good, drinks are ok! I enjoyed their pizza, would order it again.

First the pros– I was happy to be able to get a reservation for two on a Friday night a couple hours before I wanted to dine. Also, I really dug the Grand Budapest Hotel artwork on the walls. It also had a nice outdoor patio. Now, the cons — Walking in you immediately noticed the smoke smell. There is a cigar place next door and I assume they share ventilation. A little off-putting but not enough to ruin a meal. We were seated. Aaaaaand waited while the table next to us(which was seated about 10 minutes after us) was greeted and brought their drinks. I finally was able to make eye contact with a server who seemed to just be standing around by the kitchen. Service was attentive after this, if not super friendly. We ordered the salumi and cheese plate. It had an arrangement of prosciutto, salami, pepperoni, brie, etc. The menu boasted fresh mozzarella, which was absent. There WAS mozzarella but it was sliced deli mozzarella. Maybe most people think fresh mozzarella means fresh from the Sargento package? We ordered the Island pie. It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t awesome. The crust was nice and thin, if lacking flavor. My dinner companion suggested the crust should have been crispier but I’ll leave that up to personal taste. Moving on to desert. Now, before dining I had read a lot of exciting reviews about their gelato. So, obviously I was excited to try it. This was the most disappointing part of the evening. We ordered the brownie with gelato on top. I’m pretty sure the brownie was cooked in a mug in the microwave. Has anyone ever tried those«mug brownies» on pinterest? I have. I assure you they are tasty, but not what I am expecting at a restaurant downtown. And the gelato… it was hard and tasted of freezer, as if it had been made/purchased 3 weeks prior and then forgotten, uncovered. In addition, the«scoop» was a tablespoon size portion. In summary, a good location with a nice patio and ambiance. Food and service need work.

First of all, it was a First Friday Art Walk night. However, they were not prepared. We were seated almost immediately, but finally flagged down a server after 10 – 15 minutes and we still had to wait for someone to take our order. Ordered a dinner salad, it was good. We ordered the Jalapeño salsa appetizer, I enjoy spicy food, but it was over powered by the jalapeños. One of my dining partners who eats out frequently, agreed, it was too spicy to enjoy. All four of my dining companions ran out of water, twice. I’ve eaten at Hey Mambo twice before and had a fine dining experience, so I’ll try them again and hope to upgrade my 3 stars to 4 or 5 stars. Also, if you order additional bread for the super spicy dip, they will charge you $ 2. That’s fine, wish they would have mentioned that upon ordering. I’ll return to try the pizza which looked pretty epic.

The cool art work is worth a look, even if you just drop in for a drink. Nice, casual atmosphere. I went here for lunch with a group. We had called ahead, and they were very accommodating. I had the tomato bisque soup and grilled vegetable plate. The soup was great and the veggies were beyond amazing. They were served with a pesto type sauce that was spicy and went great with the vegetables. All my friends’ food looked great as well. They have homemade gelato. I had a bite of the cookie dough and would recommend you get that as well. Our waitress was nice and helpful. The only complaint is that it did take a bit to get our food, but that could have been due to having 10 people. There is also outside seating.

I got The Diablo. Pepperoni, Italian sausage, peppered bacon & jalapeños. Greatness. With the toppings, the spice & sweet balance out. The bacon was sweet(unexpected) & seems like the sauce was a tad bit sweet as well, not in a bad way, it was still good. The pizza was huge, NY style. Also, after paying for the pizza, they provided complementary cookies. Oatmeal & chocolate chip. I think there was coconut in it as well, it was real good. They have a lot of pizzas to choose from. They have other stuff like calzone, salad, pasta, etc. Also, they have ½ price appetizers during lunch hours, along with beers for $ 3.50.

I really wanted to love this place. We came here for lunch today and I have to say, I doubt that I’ll be back. To start with the place is nice enough and they sat us right away. The waiter was over very quickly to take our drink orders and he was very good. We had our menus and we selected our food. And that’s when things went downhill. It was a cold, rainy day so there were very few people in the restaurant. In spite of that, it took nearly 30 minutes to get our food. I ordered a calzone and my friend had the po’ boy special. His came with soup, which he couldn’t finish because it was completely lacking taste. He really enjoyed his sandwich, though. The calzone was good. Nothing to write home about but it was okay. That alone would not get them two stars, even on top of the 30 minute wait. What really brought them down was that the bill was higher than the prices on the menu. That’s enough to keep me away. Sorry, Mambo but I don’t care for being over-charged. Especially after such a long wait for mediocre food.
