Surprising 4 from me and I am not even a seafood fan. The 4 is because in spite of being a seafood specialty restaurant, they had my wings done right. Okay I also ordered some shrimps and they were perfect. My friend ordered oysters and according they were out of this world, nothing like he had had before. Service was par excellence — attentive, cheerful and full of energy. Will I go there again — No(only ‘cos I am not a seafood fan). Do I recommend — YES!

I’ve had at least 3 very good meals here… one lunch and two dinners. I love their big specials board, which always has a lot of great options, and the regular menu is full of choices, too. The oysters have been top-notch every time, too. In fact, I’m going to say that of all the places to eat in Mohegan Sun, this may be my favorite.

The service was horrible. The steak was cold & the steamed lobster was disgusting & not cleaned! Never again

We were visiting Mohegan Sun and decided to buy from Summer Shack. We ordered a New England clam chowder which was pretty good. But… fiancé threw up after eating their fish n chips. Not coming back here.

Glad I didn’t look at the reviews until after I had lunch here. If it’s hit or miss my experience was definitely a hit. My wife’s fried scallops were perfectly cooked. Fries were cooked well and well seasoned. I get fish n chips all over and these stacked up to any I’ve ever had. Perfect breading and the haddock was on point. Cole slaw was a little different but I liked it too. Our server Carl was a cool dude. Really enjoyed it.

This place has a chain-y feel and vibe to it, which I don’t like. I came for dinner after a basketball game and ordered the baked stuff shrimp. It was so good, probably one of the better stuffed shrimp I have ever had. My boyfriend got shrimp kebabs and he was not impressed. They were small shrimps, nothing special. It’s something I have made before and when we go out for dinner, we are looking for special. Crab cake was delicious, loved the pea and asparagus salad it came with. They also give you corn bread and rolls with your entrees, that was nice. Overall it was great food, just didn’t like the chain type feeling.

First, my ceasar salad had onions in it and tasted like not ceasar salad. Along with my salad, I ordered a crab cake and it was pretty good until I found a knuckle shell of the crab inside the cake. The fresh seafood, however for example the oysters and steamers were good. The waiters seemed like they didn’t care about the customers as they were more interested in the party afterwards. Good playlist though! Moe is nice too

Service was friendly, but the food was not worth the price. Fish tacos and fish sandwich were all the same deep fried white fish. Very average.

I have been eating oysters since I was a little kid. I like them in all different shapes and sizes. I have had everything from oysters I have dug up and shucked myself to farm raised oysters. We got some oysters this morning(see check). They were absolutely terrible! It tasted like they were soaked in saline or something… Not sure. When I told the waitress to just throw the rest of them away, she looked at me like I was crazy. If you want good oysters, go to Fresh Salt in Old Saybrook. We also got some cherrystones, but they were really oversized(not little and sweet), and a little tough. We had planned to stay for an entire meal, but were so completely disappointed we just got a check and left.

Yeah hit or miss here. Don’t expect to get your money’s worth. Not the place to be. Cannot suggest anywhere else because they are the only seafood place in there. Guess genos might be worth a try or even express. Food quality is ok and by goodness portions are so bad!

Incredible lobster dishes done in Jasper White’s unique way. Messy goodness. We also had 3 kinds of oysters. Lisa had the ahi tuna. All delicious but not inexpensive. We met Jasper on a previous visit which was a nice touch too.

The three-star average for this place is spot on. Decent draft list, adequate service, and passable food. I recommend sticking to the raw bar and the seafood specials on the board. If you like flavorful, reasonably priced seafood dishes, then the bluefish special is always a good choice. It’s a serious plate of food for $ 20. The standard menu is inconsistently priced at best, the complimentary cornbread is always dry, and clam chowder is always lacking clams(but it’s free if you check in on the Unilocal app). Not a bad choice if you’re at the casino, but it’s hard not to go to BBP instead.

A casino experience costs more but for the money you expect to be impressed. We definitely were NOT. We visited here on a Saturday night because we were out past 10(after a concert) and casinos have the only restaurants open that late. The main restaurant here was also closed but they had a decent bar menu so we decided to give it a try. We started with oysters which were excellent — no complaints there. They’re priced a LITTLE higher than other local sources at $ 4/per but blackboard are large and this was actually pretty reasonable IMO. We also had the corn chowder and enjoyed that as well. So far so good. The first mistake was the R.I. Calamari«spicy and greasy». This was a total letdown. It was dry, and the only«spicy» came from sitting in a sea of sliced banana peppers and jalapeños. There was no sauce at all, and this dish desperately needed it. Also a letdown, we were very obviously discussing what a letdown the dish was in front of our server, and barely made it a quarter of the way through it, but they didn’t offer to take it off our bill. That’s something I look for in a restaurant — it’s a really good sign when they’re proactive and the customer doesn’t have to fight a charge. You expect to have to «send it back» in a chain restaurant, but not in a place that’s supposed to be «upscale»(and charges upscale prices). This was a double failure for us. As a finisher we went with the fish tacos. These were actually very tasty and artfully presented. I enjoyed that the fish was included as small, breaded nuggets — the breading was very light and made a nice flavor detail(fish tacos are frequently just a pile of shredded or diced fish chucked into a taco — these were definitely«more»). But… whoever came up with this concept fell short at the last minute. They’re filled with shredded cabbage almost cole-slaw style, and the cabbage is very tough and LONG — the strands were the entire length of each taco. They were very tough and hard to bite through, totally out of character with the taco, and every bite left you yanking out these long strings of cabbage, making it fall apart and a mess of your face. It totally ruined the experience to the point where for the first time in a Unilocal review I find myself saying«these were the most delicious thing I will never order again.» Sigh. Long story short, we didn’t HATE the place — but we wouldn’t eat here again and definitely don’t feel it was $ 75 well spent.

I had much higher expectations for this place and was a little disappointed that overall the meal was really just alright. Came for lunch and didn’t have any issues with our reservations. The menu was much smaller than expected and the overall options were just eh. I had the fish soup(interesting, but I’d go for the Chowder) and the fish sandwich. I also shared the squid which was delicious, but barely enough for even one person to enjoy. The fish sandwich was alright, a very big piece of fish, but again, just mediocre. The entire meal was alright, but for a group of 9, we got our food pretty quick. Service was alright, which really just sums up our entire meal. For this kind of experience, I’d go down to the food court location and just grab a quick bite there instead.

On the whole we liked Summer Shack very much. The Tower of raw oysters and clams, cooked shrimp and crab was very good. Service at the bar was excellent. The fish tacos were excellent. The lobster roll was disappointing, though. Tasted like some of the fake seafood salad was mixed in. Not much flavor although the bun was perfect and the presentation was nice. The fresh chips were ok, not great. Atmosphere was fine for a casino. All in all I think we’ll be back.

Unexpectedly good food but so-so service at the Summer Shack location at Mohegan Sun. If, like us, you’re there for a concert, give it a try. We had the crab cake and Yucatan shrimp appetizers and the ahi tuna entrée. All were fresh and tasty. I prefer this kind of food to the many fried options the others around us were having, but if you’re a fried seafood kinda guy, there’s plenty for you too. The bartender/server was a little gruff but ultimately helpful with a few smiles and a little prompting. Tip: avoid the wait and look for a seat at the bar.

We stumbled across Summer Shack and checked out the menu from the outside. Overall a small menu, but specific to mostly seafood. We were very promptly greeted by a very cheerful hostess with a huge smile. She escorted us to the table and Carl was our waiter. Boy did he make the experience great. He was a great waiter, suggested and helped us with food choices and explained and answered all questions about the menu we had, since we had all never been there before. He was HYSTERICAL and made our entire experience better. I checked in on Unilocal and got a free cup of clam chowder to which Carl replied«you are one of THOSE people!» ha! I died laughing, I can take a joke all in good fun. The clam was just mediocre, thank god it was free. I like chowder a little thicker in consistency, but that is my own thing– however it was loaded with clams. Not the worst chowder ever but not the best either. We also got the chili wings, those were decent and very juicy not well done which was great. My husband got the hot lobster roll(I do not eat seafood) and he said it was good, the portion was a little small for $ 24 but he did like it. The cheeseburger I ordered was DELISH. VERY juicy and NOT overcooked, which in my eyes is great. I hate ordering medium rare, but when you get it the burger is MW and barely edible. I did order the cheeseburger which said«cheddar cheese» but I am sure I did not get cheddar(see picture) who cares– it was good and I don’t send food back. I would return, just based on the service alone. Carl was a good waiter and the food was decent. I do not eat raw bar items, seafood but I can say that what I did have from the menu was delish.

Sub par food with sky high prices; bad combination. I ordered the grilled shrimp tacos that were on special that day. The tortillas were huge, but there were only five dinky shrimps spread across two tortillas. I had to cut each of my shrimps in half in order to be able to get a bit in each bite — -and i still couldn’t even get that! They were so small; and overcooked. Each bite of my taco was mostly just the slaw, which wasn’t very flavorful. The cornbread was forgettable. And everyone at my table didn’t seem that pleased with their picks; too bad hash house had a long wait, definitely wouldn’t have come here. Avoid.

I was here with my boyfriend on Sunday and we had a wonderful meal! Started with the Lobster Potstickers. I couldn’t see pieces of lobster in them like I was hoping for but they were otherwise tasty. Because I checked in on Unilocal we got a free bowl of chowder that was delicious. It was fairly crowded and the service was friendly and attentive. Our food came out super quick which was appreciated. I had the fried scallops and changed up sides with brussel sprouts and a potato pancake — it was awesome and a good size portion. I had plenty to share and bring home. He got the stuffed shrimp which was thoroughly enjoyed. Although it was pretty pricey($ 100 before tip for 2 drinks, 1 app, 2 entrees) we felt like it was worth it. Such a good selection of restaurants at Mohegan and this one will have me coming back.
