we come here a lot, like a lot, a lot. but recently ownership has changed and the food does not taste as good. it’s still OK but what made this place so great just isn’t there anymore. despite my pouting, i’d still recommend it if you want solid, reasonably priced chinese that isn’t your run of the mill menu items.

We came here yesterday during their lunch hour and ended up ordering more than we can stomach. Their lunch specials came with milk tea or hot and sour soup. Unfortunately they ran out of milk tea and we got the soup which was quite bland. The lady who served us(I assumed she’s the owner) was very sweet and offered me another free bowl of soup once she saw that I had finished mine. I had to decline since I knew I need to pace myself for the rest of the dishes. Lunch specials: — Bitter melon beef over rice (Originally it came with chicken but the owner had no problem in substituting it with beef. Super yummy!!!) — Fried chicken with garlic sauce over rice (Mediocre) — Pork with preserved vegetables (Pork was really tender and melts in my mouth. Wow!) — Deep fried pork intestine (Really good and they gave plenty of intestines) Everything was really good but the downside is they charge you $ 1 for credit card.

At first thought this would be a great restaurant to try. It was relatively full and the aroma coming from the restaurant smelled delicious but that was a horrible mistake. The owner was really rude to his(I think) son who worked there as a waiter. He was constantly yelling at him to do things, it was really uncomfortable, especially if you understand Mandarin. Food quality was pretty low, they were really stingy. Snow pea sprouts were on the older side tho the flavor was good. The sweet and sour fish fillets were so heavily breaded that it was hard to find the fish. They tried to mask worse ingredients with heavy sauce and salt. Don’t think I’ll ever want to go back.

Posted price was 5.95 but, with tax, came out to be 7.00? Hmmmm Ordered seafood noodles and soybean paste noodles. Seafood was ok but soybean paste was too sweet. Boss man walking around with one pants leg up showing skin rash is not a place I’d like to frequent.

This place is absolutely disgusting!(Check Matt C. Pics of them prepping the food, unfortunately I just saw his comment or wouldn’t have bother eating here before). I’ve eaten here few times before and once it was ok and the second time disgusting. I went in today to just buy rice and after looking around and seeing how unsanitary they were I decided not to order full meal and just get white rice and cook my own meal at home. The man at the counter tells me he won’t sell just rice to me unless I order a full meal. Prior to this I had no issue ordering just rice from his wife and she didn’t refuse me service.

I believe I should check the most recent review before I walk in to this restaurant. There is another bad review just an hour ago. I am here trying to get a quick to go order, but the man is super rude. I asked him where should I place my to go order, and he just walk away… Then I have to ask him again, and he finally tells me that I have to order from him, just let him know when I am ready. I finally ready to place my order, I told him and he heard me. He said nothing but walked to the cash register and start looking out to the rest of the area in the restaurant. I am really puzzled and don’t know what should I do next. Then I have to tell the man, I am ready to order, and he finally tell me that I need to go to the cash register to order. He asked me what I want, of course, how do I know what to order if the menu is not in front of me. He gave me the menu, pretty much throwing it to me. Just right after, he throw one of the thing you use to collect the bill on the counter and yell at one of the employee in the store. I ordered four dishes, but you need to be careful about the bill. He over charge $ 2.00, I have to questioned him. He was arguing with me about the price for one of the dish, then I show him that is not the price he said. He was mad and rude, completely. I don’t think I will come back again. By the way, they will charge you additional $ 1.00 for using credit card.

I’m not sure if we just didn’t know what to order, or if when we got in the restaurant, the man yelled from across the room to, «Sit here,» or it took forever to order, but the experience was just bleh to us. We ordered four dishes and rice and they came in hearty portions. The prices were really cheap, so that’s a plus. We only ended up here because one of our favorite sushi spots, Koi closed down. Boo. We saw a lot of people in there, so we presumed that it was a popular joint with delectable dishes. All of our dishes were pretty bland. The best one was the beef on a sizzling platter and the beef was way too tough to chew through. I don’t think we’ll be back unless we’re starving and this is the last resort.

Food was shit and the waitress called me fat. Not even playing. Do not come here. Intestines were not cleaned properly and still tasted like shit. Still paid for the food but im NEVER coming back again. Fuck that bitch in the green sweater. I’ve never been treated that way at a restaurant ever. If I could id give them no stars but Unilocal wont let me do that.

OK northern Chinese food in a cheap mall, it is often packed and I can’t tell why. I used to visit the sister Shanghai restaurant next to it until it was closed, tried this and wasn’t happy. I usually don’t complain about service but I am not quite happy with the attitude of this restaurant, they added $ 1.5 to each menu item without notice(until found out in the bill because it doesn’t add up) and the lady at the counter acted as I should be totally be grateful about it. Taking off one star for the unpleasant service.

Although they have such a crazy variety and the food is really cheap. I’m never coming back here again. For some reason I kinda expected more. We got this pork clay pot, walnut prawns and fish fillet with tofu. They were served pretty fast. We heard the chef sneezing at the back while making our food(lol, gross). Food came and it looked delicious. The fish filet was alright, huge serving though! Later found white hair :| I was excited for Walmart prawns but when I tried it, it was mainly breading and mayo with such a small shrimp. The clay pot, I would say, was the best dish but we found hair towards the end. But the sauce was good. Service was okay. There was only 1 girl working and the cashier was knocked out lol it’s an alright place overall.

We had our Friday dinner here today with our friends and were blown away by the quality of the food here. The food was served quickly and delicious! We were surprised the quality of the various cuisines served here: dongbei, shanghai, Sichuan. The pickled beans with meat was my favorite. We are definitely coming back for more!

Big and cheap portions. Also great that most of the menu items are clearly illustrated by pictures on each wall. Tastes great, but the reason this place doesn’t get 5 stars is because I was on the toilet a bunch after the meal.

The food isn’t good. We ordered some traditional Dong bei dishes and some of the dishes look like they weren’t prepared at all. The lamb stew was horrible as well, there was barely any meat in the soup. I wouldn’t go there again.

Very authentic Chinese food. Modest and simply layout. Some of the tables and chairs are in pretty bad shape. Food is good and fairly inexpensive. The best are #179 spicy eel and #194 brown sauce pork(DEEPON in Chinese). Dined there at least three times while visiting the Bay area for four weeks.

THE. BEST.CHINESE.FOOD.EVER. My family and I were looking for a really good Chinese restaurant but we never expected this. Amazing !!! Really delicious Chinese food. The best part — it is very inexpensive. The orange chicken was the best. It had a taste of vinegar in it which made it extra good. I highly recommend this place! My family and I will definitely be back

The pros: hearty portions, staff were very pleasant to us, total bargain, you can get regional dishes not common I other chinese restaurants, and my older relatives love it. Cons: personally I would prefer smaller menu & platter sizes and better food– but I get it this isn’t a fancy schmancy kinda place. But great stop for a lunch special or for take out when you don’t feel like cooking

Little Shen Yang is exactly A-OK, given that the food arrives quickly to your table and the prices are decent. None of the dishes that we ordered particularly stood out in flavor or taste or to me, so I’m not sure if I can recommend any dishes because chances are, I might have just ordered the wrong thing. For a good meal that’s quick and reasonable, come here.

I have been eating here for a decade. OK food with low price, so a good choice when you do not have preference. However, today, I ordered a noodle priced $ 5.95, and the bill came out as $ 6.80. I asked the owner how it was calculated, he said 5.95 plus tax. Well, I challenged him, the tax is like ten percent, so how to get that final amount. He acknowledged that it should be $ 6.45, «But we charge $ 6.80 anyway always. To all customers.» He even went back to counter to fetch me a few bills with that inflated amount proudly. Thirty five cents is not a big deal, so I did not argue with him. But to do a wrong thing to all customers, proudly, does not make it right. A restaurant owner who can openly acknowledge over charge without guilty is capable to do anything as far as it increases revenue. I would not to go there any more, and you ought not either.

Best food and best price, very very traditional chinese northeast food, personally i was from shenyang, i have a feeling coming back hometown, because of the taste not the name LOL. Really, i have no idea where the bad review come from, may because of the change of owner? As far as I known this two month it is deserve 5 stars, i have drive more about 20 miles to here from san jose, order 4 dishes for only 2 person, every time i was satisfied. Packaged and enjoyed at home. They have huge menu, may confuse to someone dont quite know chinese food, its better ask waitress to recommend, such as” guo bao rou”, «suan cai bai rou”,“di san xian», «liu rou duan»… They are the most usual dishes for dongbei person.

Man what happened to this place :( Little Shen Yang used to be my go to spot to affordable and delicious Chinese food but I dined here over the weekend and it was not good anymore. The favors are non existent and the quality is poor. We used to love ordering the pork belly with salted vegetable but this time, the vegetables tasted like wet cardboard. Then I start questioning the quality of ingredients. Before I was able to put up with the rude owners because the food was just that good, but now there really is no reason to return.

3.5 stars. The Chinese food comes from region called Dong Bei(Northeast China) known for being the coldest area, so the food is typically spicier and uses many preserved vegetables(for those cold historical times), with influences from the extremely spicy red pepper everything Szechuan style. The dishes are all about $ 6 – 8 and are huge portions for pretty solid quality. Seafood spicy noodle soup. Eh, nothing special. Has calamari, shrimp and rice noodles, but just isn’t very tasty. Fried tofu with black bean and ground beef. Very good signature dish here. Very light in flavor, in a good way. House special gravy chicken. Not bad, but a bit salty and the meat had too many bones. Fish fillet soup with wood ear mushroom. Very good healthy dish. I would come back to try new dishes.

The waitress was very stubborn in changing our order from combination noodle soup to combination rice noodle soup. It was a simple swap of types of noodles. It shouldnt cause trouble for the chef. I heard her saying in the back«who orders like this». We were happy that the chef was nice enough to accommodate us. We were served pretty quickly and dug in right away. While getting the rice noodles, we spotted a dead fly caught in between the rice noodles. They were nice about changing our order but it is more about the sanitary condition of the kitchen than giving us a new order. I was really disappointed because I really was looking forward to trying the combination noodle soup.

It was my first time eating here with my boyfriend last week. We happened to love it a lot because they had so many things on their menu. The endless photos of their food on the walls made it so difficult to choose which ones we really wanted! I’m not sure what the names of the food we ordered were called(because I let my boyfriend do all the choosing when it comes to Chinese food), but all were exceptionally delicious. I believe he wanted to keep everything spicy — which I didn’t mind. It seemed like the food we ordered were all some type of pork, but each prepared differently. Definitely will come back again because I am craving for some good, spicy food!

I think this is more of a 2.5 establishment. Definitely felt cramped and packed in like sardines at my last visit here. It also has no ventilation, so tshirt and jeans is fine. Sometimes they’ll open the door if you ask them too. Food here is alright, I don’t really like going out for Chinese food cause I get some real premium stuff at home from my dad. Fried noodles was sauced up, and salty as hell. Sizzling beef was alright. Didn’t bother trying all the other food on the table being extremely uncomfortable and hot in the restaurant. Service was pretty sucky too. They gave us a full tea pot, but no cups. Had to ask several times before getting tea cups. When we asked for ice water too, they brought out ONE, ONEJUSTONE cup of water for 5 people. The servers/waiters don’t speak English very well either, so I was basically SOL. All in all, I wouldn’t write this place off because feeding 5 people and having enough left overs for a second meal was like $ 65…but they do need some AC up in here, and some better service! Sheesh
