This is an excellent mexican restaurant with decent price, great service, and excellent food. Don’t bother with the other local mexican restaurant because this one is a real hidden gem for Union City. Definitely will be coming back!

A little restaurant and kinda of tight. Table were set very close to each other. Service were a bit slow as they were packed today. We came here a few times and the food was always good. A bit on the pricey though and by far for me their tortilla taste the best. I don’t normally like tortilla but I don’t mind having theirs. We shared a combo plate — (Combo of grilled beef, shrimps and chicken Served with Tortillas, Beans and Rice) will definetly come again.

I have to admit the food here is really good. The portions are large. Sad that they moved to a new location, not down the street from me anymore booooo. Minus the two stars is they raised their prices. When items that have sour cream and or guacamole on it. They put a tiny bit on it. So basically you have to order a side sour cream and guacamole for an extra charge. That’s how they make extra money off of you. Also their new location. I haven’t been visiting them as often as like to. When I was there I ordered ice tea and they give me Coke instead. The heat of their salsa has gotten way hot. It burns my mouth. Unlike the former Horner St location. Change of cooks!!! I don’t know why. But they should have a tone down version of the salsa also.

Food was amazing!!! I am giving them 3 starts because the service was horrible! My fiancé, our son and I went go to have lunch, we sat outside because the restaurant was packed with«business people» so we ordered our drinks 2 waters and a Sprite, as we ordered our drinks 2 «business ladies» sat Down at one table and 1 at another table, the lady by herself also ordered her drink, well 10 mins later, she gets her drink, and we were still waiting for our, we finally get our drinks, then the 2 ladies order their drinks, then she comes back to is so we can order, we order 2 carnitas wet burritos and a side of fries, the 1 business lady order a burrito I believe. 10 minutes later the 1 lady gets her food,(still no food for us) about 5 mins go buy our server goes to the 2 business ladies and take their order, 5 mins after that our food comes,(20+ mins to get our food) we eat everything tastes amazing!!! We finish, we waited 20 mins for her to come back, she came back we asked for boxes and check, 10 mins later a different waitress come and asks us if we need anything we tell we are still waiting for our check and boxes, as she is listening the other lady runs out say I’m sorry I’m sorry, mind you anytime a «BUSINESS» person asked for anything she got it right away. So I felt like what we wanted didn’t matter, like if we where discriminated because we weren’t business people, but a family out for lunch. So mind yes I will go back! But maybe for a to go order.

We’ve come here a few times for work functions(~6 people) and a couples times with just 2 – 3 people. Overall, I think the food is pretty good and different from what’s «tipico» in the area of taquerias. I like the touch of handmade tortillas and the willingness to do low salt. As we usually go during lunch time, the servers really try hard, but are pretty frantic and spotty. Good thing the restaurant is small! That way the servers can see us flagging them down for water. The big minuses I would say, though, is their prices. I got a taco plate and it ran me $ 15. My cohorts also complained about this and admittedly left an impression. I think they should reconsider their prices, at least for lunch menus. That’s why I haven’t returned. :-/

Read this before going there! Mexico Tipico, Such Lovely place to go eat for lunch! When It comes to eating on diner time it’s different. I came in on a dinner rush on a weekday, & food was awful. Clearly it was because the main manager wasn’t around so I’m sure the cooks didn’t really care how food was coming out. When I received my drink, the cup was dirty. Not washed properly! I will deffenetly will be contacting the county inspection if this happens again. I would recommend going there when the main manager is around, she is such a nice lady & makes sure everything is fine. Thank you –Mr. Inspector +1(775) 800‑9603

Excellent Carne Asada. I order two carne asadas togo, the portion was enough to fill me up for an early dinner. The meat was good quality meat not salty or tasteless and not arrachera, it was well complemented with a small side salad and refried beans with rice, tortillas corn or flour, however you choose. Tortilla chip also included but they were a little stingy, other than that had a decent meal with a total of $ 35.84 for the two meals.

This restaurant is 3.75 stars. Came here after a dentist appointment for a light lunch. It’s located in a tiny business/medical plaza off Alvarado-Niles. Easy to miss if you don’t look out for it. I was alone so I sat and ordered at the bar. Bartender was attentive and quick to get my order. Ordered two tacos: Spice pork soft taco and taco de pescador. Corn tortilla was awesome! And, I usually prefer flour over corn. Salsa was spicy. Prefer a tiny bit saltier but it was good. I’ll come here again if I’m nearby.

Awesome place. Although we order take out more than dine in… but have done both. We normally sit bar top and Miguel is our fav. Either way it’s been great. They’ll modify your order as needed(just double check to make sure the guac and sour cream are inside the burrito if requested, the back tend to forget that one thing.) But they are very attentive and welcoming. Only bad thing is I think they will outgrow this space soon. I’d hate for them to move.

Great authentic Mexican food! We love all their seafood dishes. The Milanesa plate is also one of my favorites. The new location is a lot smaller but it’s in a much better area. Their old spot was a bit hidden.

This is definitely my go to place. I use to go to this place at the old location. I made it my foodie mission to try everything on the menu, I am not there yet but I have not had something I didn’t like. I have the shrimp soup and loved it. Great flavors. The menudo is delicious. I even tried the omelets they have there and those are made perfectly. The whole family love the place and will keep going back. They are accommodating with the seating if there are able to do so.

This restaurant used to be hidden in Union City but the owners decided to move to another location off of Alvarado Niles right nearby Logan High School. It is situated in a very small strip mall that has as a medical center called Nakamura Urgent Care as well as a dental facility. Ample parking. Good prices. And especially good flavors of cuisine.

My family and I are regulars at Mexico Tipico. We were devastated when they closed their doors at the Horner location but so so happy when they finally announced their reopening! Their new location on Alvarado Niles is a lot smaller and doesn’t have the same type of ambiance, but they still serve the best Mexican food in the area and I was very happy to see all of the same wait staff we know and love. I always get their half order of cheese enchiladas roja. It’s the perfect amount of food and the cheese that they use is always tangy and gooey. Their margaritas are bomb, I don’t know what their house tequila is but keep it coming. And their chips and salsa are THEBEST I’ve ever had. Their salsa is on the spicy side, so be a little careful with that, but I sometimes come in just for a couple margaritas and stuff myself with their chips and salsa. 100000% recommended to come to Mexico Tipico. You’ll become a regular before you know it.

This place was even better then what I expected. Recommended by my mother in-law. Went here with my mom and son… who lets say, they know what they like. Both loved the food. Mom had camarones apretados or something like that she said were perfection! My son had camarones al mojo de ajo who almost Finished his whole plate, I had molcajete… and everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. Their complimentary chips tasted fresh and their salsa is spicy but so addicting! Horchata and agua de piña was my mom had their classic margarita and she said it was good! I am most definitely coming back!

I recently found out that there is a new Mexican restaurant in my hometown so I decided to go check it out. I researched it on Unilocal as well and it received some pretty good reviews. Well those reviews did not disappoint and the food here was phenomenal. I ordered a burrito and they surprised me with a monstrosity of a burrito on my plate. This wasn’t some special giant burrito, this place just happens to serve monstrous portions. Ultimately, this place exemplifies a bang for your buck and I will definitely be hitting this place up whenever I am in town. Let me not forgot to mention that they also possess a full bar and have some of the best margaritas I’ve ever had outside of Mexico. The service here was tremendously friendly and made me feel at home. This is a great place to bring the family or have a nice casual date night. If you’re looking for good Mexican food in the East Bay I recommend you come check this place out.

We went there 2−6−16… We had been going there for years to where they were previously located… Everything went great until it was time to leave… They showed up with our bill which came out to $ 72 or $ 73 we paid. We even got into our car and were driving off when the waitress came out and said the bill was now $ 81… How is it possible that we pay and they come out with another total? There prices also went up with this new location… I definitely will not be going back…

This is becoming a repeat spot for me. I enjoy the yummy food, the portions are are just right(meaning big), the salsa have a little kick(BOMB), the prices are reasonable, and did I mention that there are margaritas! What really surprised me about this restaurant is that I like the rice. The only rice that I usually eat is my mom’s rice because it is the best. This place reminds me of the quality I can get from my family’s cooking. If you don’t believe me, you are missing out on this hidden spot. I highly recommend that you stop by for at least a margarita or possibly a special on the amazing lunch menu to tickle your taste buds.

I really want to love this place, I love the outdoor section. The food, on the other hand, wasn’t as flavorful as we would’ve wanted. There’s room for improvement. When we first arrived, no one greeted us, so we approached one of the ladies at the cashier’s desk. She doesn’t seem too happy… maybe a bad day? She acknowledged us and told us to wait and never came back. The next server came up, now, she was really friendly, who ended up as our server. Had their salsa and chip. Salsa was a little too spicy for me, but hubby seems to be fine with it. Here’s what we ordered: TIPICOPLATE — shrimps were flavorful, but anything dowsed with garlic is good. My top sirloin was bland. Carne Asada — no seasoning at all. Might’ve been an off night for the chef. 7&7 — not great, per hubby. Tab ended up on the pricey side, totalling around ~$ 65 Not sure if I’ll be able to go back again…

This place is much brighter and cleaner compare to the old place on Union City Blvd. the food and service are equally good and fast. The salsa is much tastier than the old place; we couldn’t stop eating. The best Mexican restaurant in union city for sure.

My wife and I were heading for union landing and trying to decide on where to eat for dinner when I remembered this place was new and just ahead. We made a quick turn and headed in. I have to say I was impressed with Mexico Tipico. First off, the chips and salsa were great. We knew we were off to a good start. The service was also very good and everyone was super friendly. I had a super burrito with al pastor, which was excellent, and my wife had camarones a la diabla, which she said was very good. The atmosphere was good but the restaurant is kind of small. All in all, I would deff recommend this place. We will be back!

Food has always been delicious and customer service has always been great. The way you can tell if a Mexican restaurant is authentic is their beans and rice. And their beans and rice are off the hook, kinda reminds me of my momma’s cooking! Extra stars for the fact that they have handmade tortillas. They have a lady in the back that specifically works on making these babies fresh to order. Oh hell yes! Their alcoholic beverages are delicious and strong. Plenty of parking.

The food was horrible. I am not usually the type of person to be so negative while criticizing food but it wasn’t to my liking at all and this was my second time trying it out. The service was really slow and the attitude of the staff wasn’t at its best. The food wasn’t as authentic as I thought and the restaurant did not seem genuine to me.

Best Mexican restaurant in the area. I was sad when their old location on Horner St. closed, but I’m glad they reopened. While I miss the feel of the old venue, this one is a little nicer and trendier. And most importantly, the food is as good as I remember. Delicious salsa and everything is tasty. I especially recommend their wet burritos — big enough for two meals. I recently tried the one covered in mole sauce and it was tasty. Service here is very friendly as well!

Their food is delicious, just like I remembered it to be when they were on Horner St. They sat us immediately and the food wait time was quick. I ordered their molcajete which had steak, chicken, shrimp & cactus. It was served perfectly hot with a side of rice, beans & tortillas. Their plate portions are generous, except for their guacamole appetizer. It was a small saucer of guacamole for $ 5.99; it should have at least cost ½ of that. Also, I did request for no cheese on my beans, but they forgot and added it. Overall a good Mexican restaurant. They have a bar and plenty of seating room. I’ll definitely be coming back, just not for their guacamole at that price.

I used to give this place a 4 star review before they closed down their prior location, but after a second visit to the new one, I cannot give them more than 3. The prices are just downright expensive and the service was just mean. For $ 10, I got a dry mediocre baby burrito(a decent regular size) with a scoop of rice and beans. The burrito was incredibly dry and bland. The carne asada tasted like dry beef and, riddle me this, it came with no sauces and there was no salsa bar. However, I used the hot sauce that came with the complimentary chips and salsa to add flavor to my burrito. I love their chips and salsa! The salsa was incredibly flavorful and spicy; which may deter an average joe taste bud because their salsa is SUPER spicy. My BF could not eat more than a few dips in the salsa. I ate a ton and my mouth was scorching even after our meal. My BF got the super famoso burrito which is essentially a humongous wet burrito enough to feed a family of 2 – 3. He also put in a side order for rice and beans, which made his total come out to a bleeping $ 20. He said his burrito was okay and that his rice and beans tasted better. I personally thought the rice was dry and flavorless. My beans were the best part of my meal even though it was simply refried beans. I would probably not come back here unless forced to. I personally have a preference for other Mexican establishments for half the cost and twice the flavors elsewhere. I guess we are paying for a sit-down, service, and the ambiance. The atmosphere was great but the service was lacking. The workers barely cracked a smile and did not seem very friendly. They also lacked patience when serving us. I had some burrito and rice as leftovers a day later and it was very dry and flavorless. Fortunately my taco bell fire sauce came to the rescue.

Pros: Food is decent… Cons: 45 minute wait to have a server come and get your drink order. DAD had to go to the bar and get his own beer after non alcoholic beverages arrived than another 30 minutes for food. Waitresses don’t have assigned tables(per whom seemed to manager at that time) so, got a different waitress everytime. Was given a discount but that seriously doesn’t make up for the lack of costumer service. I won’t come back unless i see a sign Under NEW management this is what this restaurant needs.

You know that in between time from work and picking up the kids from practice being a parent who can benefit from interim downtime? Gift yourself an hour & a half at local restaurants like Mexico Tipico. Resraurant, full bar, TVs and happy hour specials ^_^ This momma is battling a cold. I highly recommend their Chicken Tortilla Soup. I initially chose Pozole however only available on Saturdays. I was not disappointed. Sports fans, games are on, too!

Not sure why, but Union City is a desert of good Mexican restaurants. That’s why I’m so happy that Mexico Tipico has finally reopened and even happier that their new location is more centrally located. From the looks of the crowds, they were seriously missed. Food is still delicious, staff is friendly, new digs are pretty and inviting. They have a small but pretty bar. You can also order food at the bar. I’ve had a chicken Famoso burrito, chicken enchilada verde and grilled shrimp so far, all delish. Their refried beans are the best I’ve ever had – creamy and flavorful. Their corn tortillas are homemade, thick and taste so good. House Margarita was yummy too! They also serve breakfast and lunch.

Mexico Tipico is typical of most new eateries.(small, 10ish tables and seating at the bar). lines of course. came back after 1. just 4 people waitiing. got a seat at the bar. 2 or more had to wait for a table. within minutes, bartender asked me if i wanted a drink. i said«no». he then left. so i assumed a waitress would take my order. no one did. finally, flagged down waterboy, waitress to give my order. they said the bartender was talking it. i ordered menudo, pozole. all out! was recommended chicken tortilla soup(Lg). ok’ed it. never got any water nor chips like other tables or white people later sitting next to me. eats: served caldo de pollo(9.29) not the chicken tortilla soup i ordered.(ticket reads caldo) –3 homemade flour tortillas, small cup of rice, slices of avocado, onion dices, green onion bits. –bland chicken in broth with carrots, potatoes maybe slight msg. drips: –after getting my food, bartender began calling me «my friend» as he checked if i wanted anything else. said no, waiting to see if he would serve me water, chips. never did. *was bartender surprised i made tacos of the stuff in the soup? –menu offerings: breakfast, burgers, burritos, many mexican entrees. mex entrees pricey. lunch menu good M-F.
