Stumbled across this and I’m pretty bummed. I thought it was my little secret! I’d hate for word to get out and this place to get packed! Hahahaha…
Jane is the sweetest and she makes the best burgers and fries and less than $ 8! I NEVER finish in one attempt and always have a snack for later. From the second time I walked in, I’m greeted by name and they know exactly what I want and how I want my burger cooked!
I BEG Jane to make her chicken enchilada casserole and have to stop myself from shovelling it in my face and going back for seconds! Yes, it’s that good and it’s a wonderful treat when she makes it as the daily special.
Great place, great people and great food! I wish they were open now!

A little bit hard to find if you don’t know the island.
It’s tucked inside the VA Clinic in the 2^nd floor.
Found it after talking to a local resident and looking closer at the Unilocal map.
Glad I did.
Had a cheese burger with bacon.
Probably one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. Didn’t expect such a modest kitchen to produce something so flavorful and good.
I thought it should be ok, but my expectations were shattered.
It’s definitely Mom and Pop style on the register.
If you are credit /​debit card protective, make sure you bring some cash. They are old school and write up the credit card slips. Which is nice they take them even thought it a pain to write up. And I’m sure a slide machine would be nice but I know they are expensive.

Amazing home made food! Perfectly seasoned and unique combinations that work! I ordered the Standing Rib Roast sandwich, fries and macaroni salad. Phenomenal! It felt like coming home to mom. The Rib Roast Sandwich was a perfect medium rare with homemade horseradish spread, havarti and au jus. The macaroni salad was mixed with pimento cheese and a three types of bell pepper, red onion, celery and black olives: perfectly seasoned. The fries were cooked to perfection. Everything was cooked to order, kitchen super clean and staff super friendly. We’re definitely going back!

Visited this small cafeteria when I was with my grandpa who is a Vet. The Café itself is inside the VA Clinic and the place is tidy. The food was great. I ordered the Beef Brisket and it was came with a homestyle bun and there was an awesome sauce used atop the brisket. Came with french fries that were also cooked just right for being french fries haha. The service there was more than friendly. One woman working the front counter was only there working once a week, and she was friendly and attentive. She visited our table a couple times to make sure that we had all that we needed. My great-​grandfather ordered a special item being a ham and cheese melt, and they made no quarrels about making something not on the menu. The ham and cheese melt came out perfect and my great-​grandfather cleared his plate like most of us. I really enjoyed this spot and I plan on returning with my grandpa again. Friendly service with a smile and great food for those working at the clinic and the Vets.

Great good and friendly staff. Entire sandwich meal was under $ 10 with a drink. Food tastes awesome, like homemade. Will for sure be back.

The best place for lunch. I work on the island and have been coming here for lunch for years, starting back when lunch was served out of their food truck and now in their café at the VA. Jane hand makes every sandwich as if it was for her grandchildren. The tri-​tip, the smoked salmon, the brisket are absolutely delicious. And very reasonably priced. Mare Island doesn’t have much in terms of good food but Anchor Café is a jewel.

Excellent place for lunch. The pulled pork sandwich, one of my favorites, is very delectable! Their daily specials, and affordable prices cannot be beaten! The cooks go above and beyond to help if you have a dietary restriction. If you’re looking for an affordable place, with a nice atmosphere to eat around Mare Island this is the place to go.

The tri-​tip sandwich on their in-​house fresh-​baked Herbed focaccia is truly delicious! And their Chilli Verde $ 4.95 totally Yummy! Highly Reasonable prices for good food! Everything, even the humongous, yummiest, juiciest steak sandwiches are 8:25 (no tax!) and all other equally delicious items such as their breakfast and lunch items are much less! They also are very friendly and willing to please my vegan friends!

Good food but really expensive. 9 dollars for a sandwich is a bit high. The food if good. People are nice. Wish they were a bit more reasonably priced

Mare Island’s best kept secret! Hidden within the Vet’s Clinic on Walnut Ave. is a great little café serving breakfast and lunch. Everything tastes like a great homecooked meal. Some of my favorites are the corn casserole and the roasted chicken. The organic salad is wonderful too. Owners will treat you like a welcome guest! They do catering as well or party trays. Try it, you’ll like it!
