Alex and I were en route to Reno, and we decided to stop by this restaurant. It is self-seating, but don’t worry about going unseen. They recognize you right away and offer drinks/menus. I ordered the country fried steak while he settled for the two eggs and breakfast links. Both orders came with fabulous sides of homemade toast. I was unfortunately full, and I could not finish the toasts. We received amazing service from this woman(blonde hair, ponytail). Wasn’t able to catch her name, but she was running the floor all by herself. Kudos to her! If I’m ever in the area again, I’ll revisit the restaurant. It was a great start to my day.

Very good food and service. The home made bread is worth the trip and with real butter makes it that much more tasty. Portions are good size and food was not especially greasy which was nice. We had the bfast special #2 and the Sunrise omelette. The place was a nice break from the stuffy wine country restaurants.

I followed the directions of the other Unilocalers and got the toast and it was definitely delicious. Sweet and dense. Make sure you try it too! This little café is super cute and friendly. We enjoyed sitting at the counter and watching all the food come out. They make the food super cute for the kids too, like smiley face pancakes and sprinkles on the hot chocolate. The meal portions were generous and the food was fresh and tasty. Yummy! Definitely recommended!

Solid breakfast joint! I had the sunrise omelette with the potatoes and it was delicious. They are very generous with bacon and avocado-two of my favorite items in omelettes. My boyfriend had the ranch breakfast. Pancakes are super tasty! Last but not least, service was great. We had a great experience!

Small Place, but with a big selection of delicious combinations for breakfast! Their house bread/toast is similar to Texas Toast but has a rich taste! A must!

Great food and very large portions, one meal can easily feed two people. Service here was very good, my cup never got empty and that’s due to a plethora of refills from my waitress. Very kind staff and good conversation. The food is delicious and hearty, very filling as I said easily will fill two people or make for two meals. Chicken fried steak and potatoes is very tasty. Ask for the pepper sauce, goes incredibly well with the green onion in the potatoes. The toast is unlike any I’ve ever had and very hearty and filling; they give you two pieces!

Get the TOAST!!! They make it onsite and it’s delish! It’s crowded on Sunday mornings but that is everywhere you go. The omlets are tasty, the staff is friendly and there is a nice buzz in there, it smells good. You seat yourself and the service is quick. Just a sweet place to eat, you should try it some morning.

Don’t get a chance to have a well bounty full breakast due to how my job schedule is. So, since I was off couldn’t passed up a nice breakfast with a a touch of excellent morning service from Brenda at The Joy Of Eating. Got to come for yourself ! ! !

first timer at the joy of eating. i really loved the vibe. it definitely felt like that small town eatery feel. i also loved that it was seat yourself. decided to get their signature«joy of eating» omelette and split it with my friend since she said the portion sizes were huge! she was right. we literally split the meal in half and it filled us both up, giving her some leftovers to take home. i like the the fact that even though the omelette had bacon inside of it we were able to get it on the side since i’m not a meat eater. i liked the accommodation for that! dude, and their FAMOUSTOAST! super, super good! i would probably just eat of loaf of that stuff! loved this place!

Wow, so glad to find this place, so close to home. Amazing breakfast! Chicken fried steak was crunchy and tender, home potatoes a plus, with super duper buttery homeade bread as toast. Wifey got the French toast which was also fantastic!

A jewel of East Vallejo, Joy of Eating Café is neither pretentious, nor hopeful, nor just flat-out incorrect, in its name. It is delicious, through and through. Trod into this joint on a Sunday morning, and be prepared to wait a little bit. People finish up fairly quickly, but the food is certainly worth the wait. The staff of this proud establishment are hospitable, kind, and will chat you up. Take a look at the crowd that fills the dining room, and you’ll see a cross-section of the diversity that is Vallejo. Everyone eats here. Why? Because of the toast. Toast is so often an afterthought of a breakfast meal; a throwaway item that only serves to fill the diner, should they still be hungry after the protein and potatoes are consumed. Not here. Here, the TOAST is King. Deliciously baked in their kitchen, these are thick pieces of toast that have just the right blend of sweet and umami. Toast that will serve as the delicious sponge to your broken yolks. Toast that is brought to a whole new level, when made into French Toast, here. And this is not to shame the rest of their food; it is indeed delicious(try the crab meat omelette!) I would like to conclude with a toast, to the Toast… you elevate the already-delicious food here to a new level at which details are accounted for with utmost care. Cheers, to the Joy of Eating.

Huge portions, cheap prices, and a homey feel. This is a good spot to fill your brunch cravings. They have it all– French toast, waffles, sandwiches, pancakes, and bonus: they homemake their bread. I tried the monte cristo, it was okay to me, and also their French toast. Service was quick and the waitress was super friendly. I would come back for a good fulfilling cheap brunch.

Ok. They won me over again. The husband and I decided to drive by yesterday to check out the wait. Fortunately for us, they had seating available. We swooped on a booth and were immediately given our menus and asked if we’d like drinks. Long story short… the food was as good as we remembered and the service has definitely gotten better.

I can’t believe I’ve never eaten here after all these years of living in Vallejo! Parking sort of sucks, so if you find a spot all the way at the end of the lot, just take it! Or you can park by the store Book Worm. I ordered their #2 breakfast with two eggs over medium, turkey sausage(50¢ extra), and it came with their homestyle potatoes. The potatoes were soft yet crispy on the outside and the green onions were the perfect touch to them. I’m so glad this place serves big turkey sausages! Very tasty. I’m used to the scrawny unsatisfying ones at other places. Their homemade bread(which is also included in my order) is so yummy and filling! You must try their cinnamon bread too. My friend ordered French toast and it came with eggs and your choice of meat — he finished all of it and they give pretty big portions here! I could see how this place could get very packed; especially since the max occupancy is 49, but the food is worth it!

We tried this place on a Saturday afternoon and the wait was certainly worth the wait. The small roadside café is lined with Vallejo inspired décor and features small well used booths and café tables. We were seated in a relatively small length of time considering there was wall to wall people in the resturant. The coffee was amazing! Food was great, but none compared the home made bread they give as a side option. Oh wow!!! You will love this! PLUS they sell it togo as well! Hello French Toast! Only recommendation would be some outside seating for the wonderful weather!

Ordered #2 breakfast for $ 8.75 — 2 eggs, corned beef, bread, and toast(with their famous homemade bread) First impressions: We walked in with a little skepticism because of the exterior’s rundown state… and a little more skepticism as we stood awkwardly inside waiting for someone to notice us within the admittedly crowded establishment. After a while of standing there, someone took pity on us and cleared a table for us to sit down. It’s definitely a place of regulars, and as tourists lured in by Unilocal,a bit intimidating. The food pros: Of course, the BREAD. Lived up to all the hype. It tasted like a marriage of sweet white bread and cornbread, and drowned with ample butter, it was absolutely decadent-heavy, coarse, and rich. The corned beef was also a mouthful of flavor. The food cons: My eggs over easy came with runny whites which isn’t terribly appetizing. The potatoes were okay… not too memorable. Overall felt unwelcoming to outsiders but definitely served a solid breakfast.

Got the #2 Breakfast(2 eggs + potatoes + toast + corned beef hash) and, for Vallejo standards, I was definitely impressed. PROS: Their homemade bread is amazing! Toasted edges with a sweet fluffy center… So good :) Their potatoes are also great — parboiled then finished on the flattop. Throw some ketchup and pepper, and you’re good to go! CONS: Corned beef hash is probably straight out of a can, so I’m a little bummed about that. Also, I ended up paying $ 12 for this meal, which is a little much considering I could get the same meal for $ 8 in Berkeley :( I don’t see myself becoming a regular here, but I’ll come back every once in a while for that toast :)

A family member recommended this spot one morning. I trust this family member to never steer me wrong and once again, she has not. Ooh yeah… Homemade Bread — You’re welcome. Without further adieu… THENESS’s Friendli-NESS We interacted with one server and she was great. She said she had been there since 2004(?) and she says she love it there. She couldn’t contain her enthusiasm when it came to talking up the homemade bread. I feel that an enthusiastic staff can take a meal from average to above average; positive energy is contagious. Cleanli-NESS The restaurant was around ¾ full when we arrived, and I noticed that the empty tables were clean. Plates, cups, utensils were all clean. Bathroom was also spotless. Tasti-NESS I ordered a French toast based on the recommendation of the server. And they didn’t disappoint. The French toast was made with their famous homemade bread. I had one friend who said he did not enjoy the French toast. So not sure if I got lucky or not. Also, the best part of the meal were the eggs. I always get scrambled eggs with cheese, and this is the best eggs I’ve had in any restaurant. So cheers to them. Suggesti-NESS I Couldn’t think of anything that the restaurant could do different. I was fairly pleased with the entire visit. Overall-NESS One of the better breakfast places in Vallejo. Definitely better than any American Canyon options.
