Valpo’s best coffee shop. Friendly staff, and outstanding coffee! One of my favorite places to have get coffee and a bagel in Valpo. Their Blackbird blend is excellent too if you like strong, dark roast.

The best place in town for something«lunchy» like the BLT with a bite or the Italian Panini! Also have a great coffee selection which includes the Highlander Grog and Blackbird Blend.

I’ve tried to give Blackbird several tries but I’m disappointed each time. The coffee is good but terrible service. The employees are always rude and sweaty. I don’t want to drink coffee let alone order from a place where the employees have sweat dripping off their faces. I also don’t appreciate the rude attitudes I, or my friends, get the few times we’ve gone in. If I acted the way some of these employees did I at my job I would have been fired quickly. I’m surprised that type of customer services has gone on for so long.

Great coffee, hipster/new-age menu, and a prime location. Many of my mornings began here at Blackbird.

This is our second favorite place for coffee and snacks — sandwiches or pies! Fabulous pies! Not so much with regard to their cookies — they are good, but their other baked items are good. Their mixed coffees and frappes are great. Their regular coffee is also great — and tea is fine. The environment, when its not peak time, is relaxed and casual. Like the coffee houses in Chicago used to be when I was in college the first time… long before starbucks. Absolutely love to stop in this place — and great place to do your work if it’s not peak hours. Not a family place, but friendly to well behaved children and youth. Major college hangout nowadays. Still stop by whenever we are around.

Stopped for lunch on a Saturday with my knitting gals, first time customer. Had a grilled cheese, it was super tasty, loved the side sections(I got chips.). The snickerdoodle cookie was amazing!

Couldn’t have made it through law school without this place. It’s the quintessential spot to grab coffee and delicious food at a reasonable price. Also, until I went to Blackbird, I thought quiche was just another boring breakfast food. This quiche – lorraine in particular– changes everything. The Chicken Cobb and Justin’s Special are also fan favorites. Definitely going to miss this place.

Blackbird is my favorite spot when traveling through Valparaiso. They have a huge variety of lunch items from sandwiches and wraps to salads and soups. I’m not a huge coffee drinker, but they have one of my favorite iced lattes. downside– it’s a little loud inside(but manageable) and I don’t love their bakery items. The cookies are a little dry… My favorites are the harvest salad and the hummus wrap.

Was in area recently and had a taste for a sandwich. I passed by one café on Lincolnway but as I approached downtown Valpo, I saw this place and was curious as I saw on the window sandwiches and coffee. Walked in and got a good vibe about the place… saw the varied menu and decided to try a blue reuben sandwich(blue cheese instead of russian/thousand island). They gave me the choice of a side salad, regular potato chips, or kettle chips. To drink I decided on an iced coffee. Found a place to sit down after doctoring up my coffee and shortly thereafter, they served my sandwich. Good portions(nice sized sandwich and a generous amount of chips). Nice way to spend a summer Saturday afternoon in smaller town USA. There is a great variety of food here(sandwiches and wraps, breakfasty type foods, and bakery) and drinks(hot/cold from sodas to coffee to specialty drinks). If ever in the area and the mood strikes, I will give this place another try.

I’ve even here a handful of times, and the atmosphere has been interesting. The people who work there are all super polite and unique. Their chai tea, and the ice coffee is pretty good.

The door features a sticker stating that this business does not discriminate against GLBT people. That’s why I opened that door to begin with. It’s an extremely comfortable college town Café. The food is excellent, the coffee very good, it’s inexpensive but not cheap. There’s beautiful art everywhere, the staff are friendly. It’s no wonder this has become a focal point for the arts scene in Valpo. How refreshing it is to find an island of sanity in a state known mostly for its hostility to gays and lesbians. It’s even more refreshing to find that in a business that serves good food and drink at reasonable prices.

I met a friend and we ended up coming into Valpo for the afternoon and walked the square and hoped there was a coffee shop or something nearby. I actually stopped in another business and asked them what they recommended, and then told me about Blackbird Café. This place isn’t what people come to expect thanks to Starbucks. It’s what a coffee house used to look like before they became mass produced. Posters hang off the walls advertising local bands and weekend activities. The room is kind of dark with people sipping their lattes and using the free wifi. The menu is written in chalk and freshly made pies, homemade oreos and vegan friendly carrot cake sit waiting for someone to order them. Everything here is made in house and most of the food is either gluten free, vegan friendly, or organic. I went with a chai made with almond milk and a slice of the carrot cake bread. I intended to share the bread, but once I got started on it, there was little left to share. I did think that the center of the bread was a little dry, but that might just be me since mt friends joke that I think everything is dry. Still,. I left with a smile on my face because I found a true, authentic coffee house located in downtown Valpo.

I LOVEITHERE. Feels eclectic and artistic. Lots of scones, cookies and pastries at first glance. They have a wall behind the register with all of the drink selections, which are vast and include some that I have yet to try. They have an area, to the left when you walk in, with a myriad of loose leaf teas. They have an incredible menu, literally everythingggg is so delicious. And obviously free WIFI. what more do you need.

First review of 2015! I can think of nothing better than kicking off the new Unilocal year with one of my favorite hang-outs. As cafes go, Blackbird is not the most original or exceptional coffeehouse I’ve ever been to, but it’s definitely the best place in Valpo for coffee and a comfortable workspace. First off, the coffee is great. In addition to a solid house blend, they also have decent dark and mild roasts. All of their mixed drinks I have ever had have been spot on, and they also have a pretty good selection of loose-leaf teas. On top of solid brew, Blackbird also has great bistro food – homemade sandwiches, soups, pastries, and a good breakfast menu. There are a lot worse places you can go to get a bite to eat. The atmosphere is very typical café – a few well-worn sofas and about a dozen simple tables. The place is cozy with a somewhat eclectic décor. It does get a bit loud during peak hours, but it is still a decent place to meet friends or get some work done.

I’ve been coming to blackbird for a decent amount of time now. I’ve tried each of their coffees and a handful of their sandwiches. I’ve never been disappointed. The atmosphere is on point and the staff is friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

Coffee-wise I have tried the Thai iced coffee. It was very good. Also their hazelnut brew, and an Americano(both cold and hot). I had a turkey artichoke sandwich and a grilled cheese with veggie sandwich also. It was very messy. Please note the sandwiches are generally like four times messier than you expect them to be for some reason. I think that’s because they basically load them up with toppings. Surprisingly, even though it’s a coffee place, my favorite thing to order are their Italian sodas. You can even get an Italian soda with cream for 20 cents more. I like lemon lime, but my favourite so far was strawberry rose. It smelled and tasted amazing!!! The only bad one I have had was peach mango. Do not make the mistake I made– wayyyyyy too syrupy and sweet Blegh. It sounded so good too! Drink slow by the way if you get one because Italian cream sodas do not sit in your tummy very well, though I don’t think that is the fault of the café. Anyway. The ambiance is great and the people behind the counter are generally friendly. Would not suggest for a date, or if you have sensitive kids, though, because it gets VERYVERYLOUD in there. I don’t know if it’s because it’s popular or the walls are echo-y or what but seriously you might want earplugs if you are planning to hang out and read or something.

Went there with my mom and her cousin because I remembered getting one of Blackbird Café’s chocolate chip cookies at a farmers market once. Very tasty. My mom had a panini that had chicken and pesto. I tried a bite and it was pretty good. Her cousin and I had the pulled pork and it was decent enough. Not the best I have ever had but still good. They sell soda by the can so no refills. Plenty of really good drinks though. One thing I did notice but thought strange is that before we left I got a small mocha and my moms cousin got a large. The same amount of coffee was put in both. My small was super strong which was fine but I couldn’t taste the mocha. In the large it was just fine!
