This is by far one of the best coffee shops I have been to in the WORLD… I am not saying this lightly. We have lived in Japan, England, Michigan and Indiana and traveled to more than 25 other countries. From the eclectic décor that is spacious so you don’t feel like you a keeping a table from someone to the fresh baked goods including Gluten Free selections to the AWESOME coffee drinks that rival even the cappucinios and espressos we had in Italy to the wonderful live music, this place will become your favorite too. The owner and staff are friendly, courteous and efficient and take pride in what they serve. I spend a lot of time in California now with our singer/songwriter daughter who has performed here and we often lament the fact that there isn’t a Cornucopia in LA! This is truly a special place and I hope it never changes!

Metropolis coffee(the coffee the brew from Chicago) is simply amazing. All their espresso drinks taste great and the blueberry bagel I had with blueberry cream cheese was good too. My only thing is for some reason the atmosphere feel a little weird to me. Almost like I have to talk quiet there or something. Nothing bad because it doesn’t stop me from coming in when I want some good coffee or espresso in Valpo. Music nights are totally worth going to as well.

Best coffeehouse in NWI. You get big city quality and attention to detail in every cup The atmosphere, open mics and other evenings of music along with excellently prepared Metropolis Coffee make this the place to be.

Cornucopia is responsible for our 2011 Christmas miracle: Back in 2010, we visited Cornucopia for the first time and bought some of their Metropolis beans. We took them home to Brooklyn with us and after finishing the bag, began dreaming of our next visit to Indiana to pick up another bag. At the end of 2011, we finally returned to Valpo late at night on 12⁄23 and went to Cornucopia first thing on 12⁄24 to stock up on Metropolis. To our dismay, there were no beans on the shelf! We asked the woman behind the counter if there were any in the«backroom» and she said«No», but there might be some non-retail beans she could bag up if the guy ahead of us in line didn’t buy them all. We were distraught but hopeful, even though the non-retail beans surely wouldn’t be as good as our 2010 bag(were they even Metropolis? Where they the the Honduras beans we wanted?) After she bagged his beans, she returned to say that there might be just enough — did we want them? We greedily(and bittersweetly) said YES! And then, she said, «You know what, I have one retail bag back here, the Metropolis Honduras — I was going to give it to my brother for Christmas, but I’ll give it to you instead. I can give him a bag anytime». !!! I was so thankful and impressed that I’m still thinking about the experience two months later, prompting me to write this review. Thank you Cornucopia!

Cornucopia isn’t the biggest and trendiest café but it offers a cozy and welcoming environment. We came here on a Friday morning. There were a few people seated with their breakfast and laptops. It was rather desolate but mostly because it’s summer break. We ordered a coffee, latte, carmel macchiato, chicken pita, and three bagel sandwiches. I had the spinach bagel with hickory smoked bacon, scrambled egg, and provolone cheese. It had the blessings of the breakfast god because I fell in love with this bagel sandwich! The sandwich was served hot and the bagel had a wheaty al dente texture. And nothing can possibly go wrong with bacon, eggs, and cheese. Each bite was a step closer to heaven! I’m giving Cornucopia four stars because the wait staff wasn’t very attentive. It was a slow morning with three seated tables and they completely forgot about my friend’s glass of water.

My husband and I are used to taking our own home roasted coffee with us on road trips. But when we go to Valparaiso, we can leave the coffee gear at home. When you walk in, you will read on the bulletin board to the right a statement of intent. The coffee is good, they do it right, but they do it their way and if you don’t like it, they’ll tell you where the 2 Starbucks are in town. Yes they’re that confident, and they bring it. Their coffee was just a few days off roast from Metropolis in Chicago. The coffee I had was excellent black, and even better with a splash of half and half. My husband had an iced latte which was also tasty, and nice and cooling in the heat. The next morning we came back and had more coffee, a doubleshot and some more iced before heading on the road. The doubleshot was sweet, just exactly as it should be, with a nice bit of crema to top. We had a pastry, which was also good, and sniffed the tastyness coming from the kitchen. The staff was attentive and nice(one was a fellow homebrewer), and we had a great conversation with the owner about coffee, home coffee roasting and the growing movement of quality roasters to Chicago area. We shall be back — you should go too!

Great food and great service. If you war are ever in Valparaiso I would suggest that you stop here and get yourself a great cup of coffee and a great dessert. The owners are the some of the nicest people you will ever meet. They also have great live music and serve beer too.

Good coffee, comfortable seating. I enjoyed the open mic, also. I didn’t sing of course, but I do appreciate the others who belted out the tunes!

This was a really nice end to the night, after dinner and Valpo’s art museum. My boyfriend and I didn’t want to call it a night yet, so we drove downtown looking for something to do. We stopped here. I’m a tea drinker and was really pleasantly surprised to find a selection of lesser-known Rishi teas. I got the Cheery roobios. freaking amazing. I thought it was better than their blueberry, even. My boyfriend got a slice of blueberry cheesecake for us to split– also delish. Another cool thing is that they serve beer! It looked like a great selection, too. I saw Fat Tire, 312, and a local brewery I’d never heard of. The seating was nice– not worn down but not super fancy either. Comfy. My bf and I enjoyed looking through a binder of dogs who were up for adoption at the Humane Society. I also really appreciated the service we received. cool place.

Great coffee, delicious food, and a really wonderful atmosphere. They also have some fantastic events happening here all the time, most with no cover! Of particular note is the weekly Open Mic Night, where local talent comes out to shine!

The Coffee Gods have descended upon Valparaiso, Indiana in a thunderous tornado of Marqaha bliss. Hands down the best espresso and coffee in all of Northern Indiana. As if having rippin’ coffee drinks(for maximum sippin’), their soups and sandwiches are a culinary force to be reckoned with. I would recommend the avocado BLT and the Chicken Chipotle Enchilada soup. There is lots of room as well, so you can almost always find a quiet area, unless of course there is music going on. DID I MENTIONTHATTHEYHAVECRAFTBEERFROMSOMEOFINDIANA’S BESTMICRO-BREWERIES???1! Figure 8, Three Floyds, and Upland(plus old stand by non-micro brews). Coffee!

I don’t know what prompted«Hayley B.» to write what she wrote about Cornucopia Coffee, but I spend quite a bit of time there and I’ve never had a problem. I’ll go one step further and say not only have I never had a problem, but that I look forward to the time I’m able to spend there! If I’m just studying, it’s comfortable and quiet. If I want lunch, the turkey sandwich with spinach and apple butter can’t be beat! And if I’m looking for live music, Thursday night at CCC is where it’s at! Did I mention they serve some of the finest microbrews in the area? It’s really too bad that this negative review is on the front page for Cornucopia. Maybe next time she should patronize the business she hangs out in, instead of bringing in coffee from another coffeeshop then complaining about it online. It usually makes for a nicer experience!

I’ve been here several times and has been treated very friendly by the people working there. They take your order and man times they’ll even bring your coffee and food out to you. It’s not the biggest place in the world but what coffee house is? It actually gives you a cozy sense when you sit down. The coffee is very good, a large variety that you’d expect with some smoothies and loose leaf teas as well that are outstanding. If you’ve never had loose leaf teas verses the bags you get in grocery store you’re missing out. I’ve only had a couple of the sandwiches so far but most of their small menu sounds very appetizing. If you’re in downtown Valparaiso and looking for a good place to relax during the day or even at night I’d recommend here. Also they’re changing their format but they have open mic nights on Fridays which are always fun if you’re looking for something new to try.(They do have great micro brews as well FYI)

This little coffee shop is not what it seems… BEWARE. Myself and several of my friends were treated like absolute dirt by the owner of this coffee shop. I have no idea what ever led her into the service industry. I have never been treated that rudely in a place of business in my life. At first I thought it was just me, or maybe she had a bad day(I was willing to forgive and move on). Then 2 of my friends go in there and are treated equally as horrible by this woman and i am appalled. I do not need to waste my hard earned money there when I can walk 1 block and get an amazing treat at Black Bird café where I am always greeted with a smile and amazing service. I have decided to edit this post and elaborate on my reason’s for giving this place 1 star. The staff who work there are great I am sure but the day I went in there it was the owner(so I was told) serving my beverage and she was beyond rude. I asked for a tea with steamed milk… NOT a latte. I asked for her to put some hot milk in my tea and she tried to charge me $ 2.10 extra for this. So naturally I politely questioned her pricing as it says nothing about paying over $ 2(which is insane) for hot milk on her price board. She was very offended, rolled her eyes at me and went on and on about needing to keep her business afloat, the price of milk etc. and then proceeded to dump my drink down the sink and yelled«If you don’t like it there’s the DOOR!!». I was appalled and so was everyone else who was there that day. I had people coming up to me on the street that I didn’t even know apologizing for her behavior… I was an innocent person going to get a simple cup of tea and was treated like dirt. I choose not to support a business that treats people so poorly. I am not out«to get» this coffee shop, only to share my experience honestly which is the point of Unilocal.
