I find that Toooo often places such as El Indio are given such outstanding reviews. I guess people just don’t know what real Mexican food should taste like. This food lacks authentic Mexican seasoning. The carne asada is hard and tortillas are dry. The beans taste as though, whoever was mashing them, got so tired, they just gave up. Only reason it gets 2 stars is because it’s menu is readable, the outside is clean and the person that took my order was polite. Other than that, don’t waste your time.

El Indio is exactly what other Unilocalers described: bad location, very few seats, and decent burritos. I, unfortunately, did not experience a great burrito as others have written about. I ordered a #9(choice of meat, cheese, beans, and guacamole) for $ 5.50. The burrito was exactly as they said. They use the thinner flour tortillas, but everything else was about on par as if you had gone to the store and bought chicken, cheese, re-fried beans, and guacamole, and then added jalapenos and salsa. I think the location can be offset by the low price-point. It is also open until midnight, if you need a fix. I just can’t give it more stars because it was only good, not great. If you believe in the Unilocal star system, then 3 stars is appropriate because this place was A-OK.

This joint is seriously a hidden jem. One night my brother and i were craving some good mexican food so we decided to drive around in van nuys. With no luck finding any trucks or restaurants open that late at night, we came across El Indio. It was empty, cold, and wet, but we went for it and tried their food. We came home and we didn’t really expect anything spectacular out of their burritos. Low and behold, after the first 2 bites my taste buds were in heaven! I was so excited because after a very long time i finally found a burrito that made my taste buds sing. So if you’re ever in this area and are craving some mexican food, definitely check this place out!

If you’re hungry and you order the breaded beef burrito… you’ll be a happy camper. That’s all I have to say.

I have been coming here since I was little. You really can’t get much better than this. The restaurant is located in the crappiest part of North Hollywood and shares a parking lot with two or three mechanic shops. The food is some of the best I have ever had, though. I love their carne asada gorditas. They start with an extra thick gordita shell made from deep fried masa, then they top it with pinto beans, carne asada, lettuce, cheese, a slice of tomato, guacamole and another deep fried gordita shell. Omg. Its like a Mexican hamburger. So friggin good. Wait. Damnit… I’m drooling now. I wouldn’t advise eating here because, in true taco stand fashion, there is only patio seating available. Get your food to go and you will be pleasantly surprised.
