What a shame. Another Classic Venice spot closed for good. I’ve been coming here forever. Too bad. I hope it doesn’t get replaced by a Starbucks, Chipotle or some other corporate crap. I’ll miss you Thomas’.

Fish and chips was good but pastrami sandwich was GREAT! Service was awesome and price was fantastic! Great find as we were running around town.

You know something is wrong if your salad tastes a lot better then your fish and chips. The fish fillets tasted kike the frozen packaged one you get at the grocery store and I got sick from them :(

Absolutely, positively, no question about it… it’s terrible terrible terrible! Couldn’t get into Tommy’s parking lot up the street and I didn’t have enough cash for Whole Foods take-a-way. OK, I’ll give Thoma’s a shot. Basic order of a chili cheeseburger combo with fries and a soda. My burger came cold and without cheese, but the lettuce was wilted and HOT? The chili was more of a more watered down chili sauce like what Weinerschnitzel uses, but not that decent. The mushy tomato had started to break down and tasted old, as if it was sliced days ago. Fries were an uneven mix fresh and cold with the majority being the latter. My soda had an oily slick on top, I kid you not. I did not even take more than two bites of anything — tossed it all into the trash. Sad thing, I was the only customer at the time, where was the attention to proper preparation? Ick-ick-ick… never again.

Good little burgers. I say little burgers because I get two double burgers to get full(when I’m starving) To me for these burgers to taste good you either need to order them with chili or add ketchup to them. Without either of the two they are plain. If you are in the area and want some chili burgers or fries this will get the job done. I might even give this a slight edge over Tommys on Pico.

I SERIOUSLYCANNOTBELIEVETHISPLACEISRATED3STARS. The update is based on breakfast and oh my goodness why would you ever complain? I always always always get the«western omelet» combo which includes, bell peppers, onions, ham cheese and more bell peppers. Of course with homemade potatoes and toast, and get this for about 5 dollars. If course they have a basic breakfast combos for 3 – 4 bucks but I stay true to my western omelet. PS. ask for their salsa. homemade as well and bomb? oh whatttup Thomas

Basic as hell burger joint with very unappealing photos of food, but just ignore all that because the burgers are great. The double cheese burger is comparable in taste to In-And-Out’s ‘double double’ but bigger. The fries are just your average frozen fries so nothing special, but I’m there for the burger, and that’s a winner in my book. PS. Check out the 1980’s and 90’s arcade machines! They should be in a museum! Who owns this joint!!! :)

I was hungry and saw this driving by. I decided to stop in and grab a chili-cheese dog. This is a classic greasy-pit with some friendly mexican people working the front. Coming from Chicago I was expecting it to be an average tasting dog and maybe good chili. The entire dog was great. They had a nice bun, big dog that was not some cheap tasting thang. The chili was thick, the cheese was actual shredded ched and I asked for some raw onions on top. I was over impressed. I don’t know much more than that…

The food here is your typical greasy char-broiler fare, but lacking the usual large menu and tasty food. I had a chili burger that tasted like bad chili from a can, and a hot dog that was among the worst I’ve had. The fries were poured into the fryer from a bag that was generic grocery store brand(I think it looked like Safeway). And to top it off, the guy swindled me out of a hard-earned dollar. I order my food, he charges me $ 9, I pay. I then go sit down and realize I didn’t get a receipt, I look at the prices, and they add up to just under $ 8 including tax… I go up and tell the guy that he overcharged me, and he showed me that he charged me for a chili cheese dog instead of a regular hot dog. He acknowledged this… and then disappeared to the back room and and never came back out, and had someone else go out in his place. I didn’t feel like making a stink over $ 1, so I went home a dollar poorer than I should be. Shady people. Seriously, who would knowingly overcharge someone and then, when confronted with it, not just give the money back!!! It also seems to be a popular hang-out for local bums, so if you happen to be homeless and looking for a place to schmooze, this place might be for you!

Why is po’ man’s food so good? Well Thomas, Thomas’, or Thoma’s, all of the names I saw on different signs here, is definitely not at po’ man’s prices anymore. Still craving chili cheese fries, I pulled into this plaza right away. I knew I could kill 3 birds with 1 stone(fries, use CVS coupon, and get coffee at Whole Foods). I noticed that the menu prices have really increased with a $ 6 average for the combo’s. Their food better be worth it. I got my chili cheese fries, which had a pile of chili on with sliced cheese on top(eventually became melted from the trapped heat) and actually devoured the entire thing because I was so hungry. When I finished, I thought to myself that 1) chili *is* poor people food because it’s a blend of meat and beans, 2) sliced cheese on chili doesn’t fit, and 3) it was only good because I was hungry and definitely not worth it next time. Although I’m glad I tried a new place, my choice didn’t justify the prices for me. I applaud the one man working the stand, and they do boast a variety of other items such as: a full breakfast menu, chicken, fish, pastrami sandwiches, a bunch of different burgers, etc. I’m really surprised that only 19 people have reviewed this place! I guess Venice dwellers are too good for this stand. P. S.(aside from food) –don’t go to this lot after work on Friday because the parking is crazy(took me about half an hour) –this is a fun lot to people watch

There’s so many great burger spots in LA. Don’t waste your time at this one.

Thoma’s is one of those LA burger stands that half-heartedly tries to trick you into thinking that they are a branch of the Original Tommy’s. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you. There are a million burger joints in LA — whatever it takes to get customers in the door is fair game in my book. The food here is simple burger stand fare. Hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, chicken and fish sandwiches, some fried goodies and a breakfast menu. The food is served quick and hot and I like it. The cheeseburger I had tonight was great. Fresh, tasty and $ 2.99. I also tried the chili cheese dog. Very reminiscent of the real Tommy’s, except the dog is grilled on the flat top and has a nice char to it. This place is a bit of a dive but it’s clean. Some sketchy-looking folks might be hanging out smoking in the patio, but I think that adds character. Parking can be an issue due to the Whole Foods in the same lot but don’t let that be the reason you pass on Thoma’s. I’ve been driving by for years and now I’m kicking myself for not trying it sooner.

Thoma’s, ahh I miss you so. A yumtastic burger with fries(seasoned, with extra seasoning available upon request) and rabbit pellet ice. There aren’t many words need to describe the food at Thoma’s, the best I have is; good, quick, and a great price. If you have never, been it’s probably because it is located right next to a gas station and crowded Whole Foods. Give them a chance, I bet you will be quite surprised. I have never been let down at Thoma’s and they are such a comfort food place for me. I miss you Thoma’s.

When I was about 21, I spent every other day of the summer in Venice at my friends’ house. They were staying two blocks from Thoma’s. And that’s truly when my habit became a problem. Oh, Cheeseburger Special… You may well be the death of me. Don’t let the incorrect business title or people’s mistaken attempts at the name fool you… It’s called, «Thoma’s.» Say it with me, now, «TOE-MUHZ.» Very good. The big draw here are their meal baskets. Anything from chicken strips and fish-n-chips to burgers(cheese… bacon… chili… whatever your kick) and pastrami sandwiches. Basket combos come with fries and a soda. The fries are AWESOME! When they pull them from the fryer, they sprinkle seasoning salt on.((I always ask for the salt, and just let that sucker rip… I adore seasoning salt.)) **I’ve included the MENU in the photos** They serve breakfast(and yes Raru, they have breakfast burritos) which I’ve yet to try, but I might consider it on one of those«I shouldn’t have had so much to drink last night» mornings. Still gets two thumbs up.((Just try not to strangle the yuppies in the parking lot that this spot shares with a relatively new Whole Foods.))

The fries are pretty good here, even if they probably are bought from the 99 cent store in the same lot, but they do make them well. The burgers are good, the bums seem to leave you alone and so does the hippy whole food people. Nothing special, nothing bad either.

This is the best burger(fast food style) I’ve had within striking distance of the beach. I’ve been going here since I moved to town in ’05 and everything has always been consistently above average. Fries = always super-crisp. Like McDonalds fries, but thicker, cleaner tasting, and they use Lawry’s seasoning for flavor. Burger = today I had a chili-cheese burger(along with the apple that I brought to lend some sort of healthiness to the meal). Thick tomato, green lettuce, onions with a little bit of snap. The burger itself isn’t overly greasy and has nice 50’s-burger-shack flavor. They have those little yellow wax peppers on the counter too which add a nice counterbalance and a little kick. I just worry that with a Whole Foods going into this lot, things will start going all high-rent, and Thoma’s will transform into a fuckin’ pinkberry or something. I guess only time will tell.

Mmmmm I love goopy, greasy, cheesie, burgerie burgers! I love how in LA there are burger spots named, Tomy’s, Tommy’s, Thoma’s, etc, and they all server the same kind of burgers! Just amazing to me. But this was the last Tom iteration of a burger place I need to try on this side of town. Inside is nice enough, a few arcade games and some booths. They offer a few kinds of burger meals, couple sandwiches, some american and mexican cheap breakfast meals, and a couple other random items. Nice simple menu. I get the double chili cheese burger combo, $ 6. I go sit in a booth to wait for my foods. Five minutes later the burger slave calls me over to give me my meal. Very generous portion of fries with a some seasoning salt on them. I unwrap my burger and start to grin as I see yellow cheese dripping off the sides of my burger. I planned ahead and asked for no veggies, no need for anything slightly natural in a meal like this. Mmm burger, I bite in and am in chili cheese burger nirvana. well maybe not that good, but I was starving and the chili was good, just like at Tomy’s. The cheese here though was a notch better as well as the meat, less grease. But that’s a good and bad thing, depends what time of night it is. The only negative I have with Thoma’s is lack of bacon. Bacon here would clearly set them ahead of Tomy’s. But regardless of the bacon shortage, I like Thoma’s better.
