Simply the best vibe and the best food. Lots of great veggies and crazy inventive skewers! Try the chicken thighs with Yusu citrus.

This place is great! The kids love getting to pick out a bunch of different items. The potstickers are delish! Really, everything is! Wish there was more seating. Try this place!

How can you expect anyone to come to your restaurant if you won’t even pick up the phone? I tried calling several times during business hours and I can’t even leave a message because«the voice mailbox is full» Not very good business practice.

Hard to find a kushyaki place It seems most in Ventura rave about the Teppan style cook in front of you type places where they put on a show but serve dried out chicken and shrimp that only moistness comes from the giant slab of butter they throw in at the end, Gotetsu makes everything fresh cooked to order with the right amount of doneness. Fresh ingredients nicely seasoned but nothing fancy but that is kushiyaki. Fun way to sample lots of items. Order a lot at once and they will keep a nice pace of hot food coming out don’t worry they will not bring it out all at once and then some items get cold. Cooks and owner care about their food and customers. The owner’s daughter has her cute elementary school artwork hanging in the bathroom. Was not crowded on the weeknight I went but they said if you make a reservation you need to be on time otherwise they give you spot away — only 17 seats.

Killer little spot, hadn’t been here before but loved the menu. Staff was friendly and it was cool watching them cook everything right in front of you. Definitely will be back here again.

Great place! They have a special ramen event the second weekend of every month. The tonkatsu ramen is incredible. I live in Ventura and my boyfriend and I would drive to Little Tokyo in LA once a month for incredibly authentic, tasty ramen. We found this place while walking our dogs and decided to go for dinner that night. The skewers are good and their beef tataki dish is phenomenal. But the winner is their Tonkatsu ramen and their gyoza, just as good as Little Tokyo! Try their red bean mochi for dessert. Service is slow though, so be prepared. Worth the wait!

Love love love this place. Consistently good with friendly staff. Love how the skewers are small so you can enjoy many different things and they always have a specials board. I’ve never been for lunch, just dinner but they sometimes have ramen weekends where they serve the most delicious ramen! There aren’t a lot of seats so if there is going to be more than a couple of you make a reservation because they get busy! Also, leave plenty of time to eat. They are grilling and cooking everything to order and it can take a while. Not a problem, just be mindful of that when you go– don’t go when you’re in a hurry.

Enjoyed our meal the other day. Tons of flavored rice, stirred eggs and a Sapporo. Loved the owner cooking and the conversation.

Favorite restaurant in Ventura. Home cooked Japanese food from a friendly owner. Most authentic Japanese food in town.

Good place for a simple date. The good is delicious, but it takes FOREVER. Its not their fault, they cook it fresh but be prepared. We thought that we would order one dish at a time and go from there, but that was definitely not the best way to approach it. We started off with the rib eye and filet mignon which were both tender and really well seasoned, these came out reasonably fast. After that though, we ordered some chicken dishes(meatball, etc), each round took about 20 minutes. Also its only bar type seating, so not really amenable to large groups. Its reasonably well priced, for two of us it came to about 40 dollars. The food itself is worth 5 stars, it just takes frustratingly long to get the food.

Love this place. Small, efficient open air kitchen. All business about getting the freshly prepared food out. When we were there, the only person working was the young lady who I assume was the owner and she was killing it, working the lunch crowd, taking orders, answering questions, cooking and cleaning. I’ve only been here once, but every damn thing was excellent and I can’t wait to return. Close to my hairstylist, Gavin, at Tangerenz, so it’ll gladly become a regular stop from now on. Try it, you’ll love it! P. S. if the door is open, it hides the name of the restaurant from the street. Very small place, so go by address.

I came here for the first time and I had the absolute best experience!!! Everything from the grilled squid to the grilled beef tongue was exquisite. Every skewer we ordered was flavorful, juicy, with a layer of char that just takes it over the top

Don’t get me wrong, the food here is amazing, but man, if you’re not patient, this place will drive you nuts. Bf and I went after the movies and we were starving and he wanted to eat here. Ok great, we went in and got seated. It wasn’t that full, but it was being the fact there there was only 2 people working. The workers were nice, but please please hire more people! Again, the food it great, but it takes forever.

This place is absolutely the best. But DONOT expect or ask for sushi. It’s not what they serve. It’s Japanese style street food. Authentic style. It’s awesome. Try everything on their special menu. It’s on the wall. Try their special beers and sake from Japan. Regret it you will not. And the price? Too reasonable. If I owned this place I would double the prices on the menu. I mean look at the menu pictures for proof. And the owner? Yukari is truly an artist. It is always like getting a seat at the chefs table when she cooks.

There was something off about the marinade so asked the chef and she said they don’t usually use much of it to cut down on calories. I ordered Chef’s special lunch combo with 3 meats and 2 veggies skewers with addition of beef. Mushroom skewer was kind of tasting different but didn’t make a fuze. That day, I had stomach upset and had to use bathroom 3 times! Not sure if it was marinade, uncooked meat or mushroom, but not pleasant experience. Mediocre taste for expensive price.

Great place!!! I don’t know why I’m just finding this place but I am adding it to my list of high favorites already. My wife and I had, in no particular order, the skewer of chicken with citrus pepper, moshi potato cake, Piri Piri salad, Goyoza(best ever) and Jalapeño Onigiri(grilled riceball). All were excellent. The staff and owner, Yukari, were fun and friendly. Rock radio was playing loud and the friendly Ventura vibe was workin’! Don’t miss this.

For the last year or so I’ve been going to Toki for ramen. Then a couple of days ago, a friend posted a photo of ramen he just had and. said it was the best he’s had. Yukari happened to know him and commented on the photo so of course I said I’d visit. I came in last night with my sister and niece. As luck would have it, they just happened to have a ramen special. Talk about perfect timing. I didn’t know that ramen isn’t normally part of the menu so we scored big time. I got the Tonkatsu with curry, my sister got the Negi and my niece got the wonton. All of them were equally good, but I do have to say that the soup on my order was the best. It was the only bowl that was finished because my sister and niece also had some. The service was great. I w as very impressed with the speed of service considering there were only two people working and it was apparently super busy all day because of the ramen special. My sister and I couldn’t stop gawking at all the skewers cooking while we waited for our food. I will most definitely be coming back to try their non ramen menu.
